Syracuse - RHP Jesus Reyes
Bingo - RHP Colin Holderman
Brooklyn - RHP Jose Butto
St. Lucie - LHP Cam Opp
Butto is intriguing. The others.. meh (though Opp is from England)
St. Lucie
PCA 2-5, BB, 2 K's (CS) PCA has bulked up a bit (in a good way) and I'm a believer. I believe he is the Mets CF of the future and not Khalil Lee
Newton 2-6, 2b, 2 k's. Toolsy as it gets, time to actually show some production on the field. The swing and miss is likely going to hold him back but the glove is plus and ya never know?
Saunders 1-4 2 BB (Big athlete, older. Not the best sign they had him at 1b)
Palmer 1-6, 3 k's (big breakout potential.. he went to HS in Flushing!)
Ashford 3-4, BB. Not viewed as much of a prospect, Ashford still has a shot to be an "extra" given his overall skillset. Already 24
Peroza 2-5, 2 k's
Joander Suarez 4.2 innings 1 hit 2 runs 4 BB 6 k's (reportedly touched 94, he's been mostly 88-91 previously. Projectable. Velocity will be key for him)
BK
Mauricio 2-4, 2 2b BB, K
Baty 2-4, HR, BB, CS, error
Walker 5 innings 0 hits 0 runs 1 walk 8 k's (Not viewed as a big prospect, already 26. 6'6 lefty, my guess is he does well at his level)
Orze 2 innings 2 hits 1 run 0 walks 4 k's (2 bouts with cancer)
Bing
Vientos 0-4 bb, 2 k's (he could struggle at this level as it's a somewhat aggressive placement)
Lindsay 0-2, 2 BB, 2 k's
Cortes 2-4, 2b, BB, 2 k's
Megill 5 innings 2 hits 1 run 3 walks 10 k's (6'7 monster, can touch upper 90's, lacks 3rd pitch so likely RP but ya never know? already 26 in July)
Mitchell 2 innings 1 hit 0 runs 0 walks 2 k's (could see Queens out of the BP)
Syracuse
Lee 1-4 2 k's (started in RF. If he's a CO he's far less interesting)
Love the minor league updates: no need to go anywhere else lol
PCA's glove is considered his best tool. He has the wheels and natural CF ability to stick there 100%. Obviously if he bulks up too much or gets hurt that can change but he's a pure CF.
Holderman signed for 400K back in 2016. Consistently hurt, FB never really came back. Of course, the caveat is, I have no idea what he looks like in 2021 but 2019 he sat low 90's and didn't miss bats. He's turning 26, I'm not expecting much.
It's funny, Vientos is younger than Baty, but seems like he's been a Met prospect forever.
Probably need rule V protection soon (?), maybe makes sense to push him and see how he responds.
of course - I'm sure some of these guys don't even know quite how their own stuff will play in real games since it's been so long once natural adrenaline kicks in. Everyone in the minors is kind of like Taijuan Walker in terms of how he was coming back basically after 2-3 years off. It's just a big variable that nobody can predict. Some guys may get lit up and literally retire within a few weeks. Some guys may see velocities they haven't seen in a long time like Walker did. Just gotta cross our fingers we see more of the latter.
I am really excited about him. A potentially excellent hitter with power from the catcher position is something that doesn't come around too often, though the Mets have been fortunate in that regard in the past.

No disagreement here in regard to Alvarez. I only put it out there because I'm already (no exageration) seeing people on twitter suggesting he might replace McCann... THIS season. Catchers take a lot of time. It's just the way it is. Even more so on the defensive end. Zero doubt he's a C, zero doubt he sticks back there. He has to watch his weight/physique and work on his defense. I do not doubt he will.

They don't usually explain their thought process but my read is they are higher on Baty than Vientos (Fangraphs prefer Vientos for what it's worth) but listening to Blankmeyer on a recent podcast (and he had both in BK at the alternate site) it felt like they viewed Baty as a big-time talent and Vientos as a guy who works hard and could "get there".
At St. Lucie, Austin Faith was touted coming out of High School as Magnolia HS had some first round prospects. Control was always an issue but out of the pen had 3 K in 1 1/3 IP without walking anyone.

I'm not too worried about his defense. He is projected as 55-60 on fielding and arm strength, and is praised for his leadership qualities. He will have a few years to improve on the other facets there.

I think this is why I stay off Twitter lol. I can't handle the stupidity. McCann has been fantastic defensively and has been a God send.
Ages in their first full seasons as starters....
Realmuto 23
Piazza 24
Yadi 22
Posey 23
Grandal 25
Posada 27
Perez 23
B McCann 22
J McCann 25
Martin 23
Mauer 22
Alvarez will be 20... NEXT season
Shecky, are you breaking news? lol
Are we sending someone "good" for Lee that you are aware of?
Nimmo with CF defense, and a bit more pop? I'll take that.
100%. He likely would have been released by now if they had more depth.
Wonder if robo umps would chop a year off ETA for catchers.
