BREAKING. Shocker. Rangers have fired John Davidson and Jeff Gorton, Post has learned. Chris Drury will remain with organization and will have prominent role.
Sources say that #NYR president John Davidson and GM Jeff Gorton scurried to distance themselves from the team statement that was issued on Tuesday night, telling other executives that they did not know it was in the works until after it was released.
But a divergence of philosophies emerged between Dolan and the Davidson-Gorton ticket, with sources indicating that the CEO believes that it is time to take the next step in this process while the front office people have continued to preach patience and a longer-view panoramic take of situation.
As well, it is believed that the hockey hierarchy’s collection of skill players at the expense of will players did not sit well with Dolan. The recent mismatches against the Islanders highlighted the team’s deficiencies in grit and leadership and may have accelerated, if not prompted, this stunning decision.

I'm not in love with Gorton/Davidson (they've done a lot of good, some bad) but it is absolutely horrifying that Dolan is pushing his views on management.

Like many of you, I assume this had to do with the events of the past 48 hours. I don’t believe Davidson/Gorton had anything to do with last night’s NYR statement; it was Dolan-driven....(1/2)

However, there is word Dolan was unhappy with this NYR season and wanted to make a change. Seems crazy to me, because they have a come a long, long way in two years...but he’s the owner.
Ballsy move. I think this whole Caps thing is an organizational embarrassment from the players on the ice to the coaching staff to the front office. Total pacifism on the ice, and the whiny bitch letter to the league following just awful looks. And this all on top of a season where the beat up on bad teams and get clobbered by good teams, like losing 9-0 over 2 games to the Islanders with the playoffs on the line.

I’m told the firing of Gorton and Davidson by NYR is coincidental and not related to the statement issued yesterday related to Tom Wilson. Another source says ownership felt the Rangers underachieved this season.

if that's the case, you would think Davidson would have been given the chance to hire at least one more coach.

Unless JD and Gort didn’t want to fire Quinn, THAT is the first move that needs to be made.

That is absolutely insane. Absolutely INSANE. Great. The Knicks are doing well, so Dolan has turned his attention to the Rangers. Lovely.
This isn't good news. I wasn't Gorton's biggest fan, as he's made a few questionable moves, but Quinn is the bigger issue and JD was a Ranger through and through.
I'm just absolutely shocked. This honestly scares the hell out of me. I don't know what Dolan will do, but this isn't good...

just to be clear, a prediction not saying it is being reported
Sounds like the opposite
Dolan is done screwing up the Knicks and has turn his sights on the Rangers

Yup he’s history, just a matter of time. I really wanted JD to raise a Cup here.
While I cringe at the thought of Dolan being Dolan with the Rangers, the all-skill/no grit assessment is valid.

Dolan is going to torpedo this franchise right when it's poised to be a top tier team.
