I looked at the NYG 2018 starters to see how we had improved. It is pretty amazing how bad the 2018 team actually was. Most of the starters would not even make the 2021 team and only 4 or 5 could start. The Giants are doing something right even if it hasn’t showed in the record yet. Here are the details.
OFFENSE
QB - Manning
Jones
RB - Jennings, Darkwa
Barkley, Collins
TE - Donnell, Tye
Engram, Rudolph
WR - OBJ, Shepard, Cruz, Harris
Golladay, Shepard, Toney, Slayton
OL - Flowers, Pugh, Richburg, Jerry, Newhouse (Pugh and Richburg)
Thomas, Lemieux, Gates, Hernandez, Peart
Notes
Only Manning, OBJ, and possibly Pugh (until hurt) could start now.
Jennings, Darkwa, Donnell, Tyye, Harris, Cruz (Post injury), Flowers, Jerry and Marshall would not even make the 2021 team.
DEFENSE
DL - Jenkins, Hankins, Ayers, Kuhn
Lawrence, Williams, Shelton, Hill
LB - Kennard, Beason, McClain, D Moore
Martinez, Ragland, Ojulari, Carter, Crowder, Anderson, Odenigbo, Ximines
CB - Prince, DRC, McBride
Bradbury, Jackson, Holmes, Robinson
S-Berhe, Tayler
Love, Peppers, McKinney, Ryan
Notes
Hankins and Kennard would be the only players with a chance to start.
DRC and Prince might make the team.
Jenkins, Ayers, Kuhn, Beason, McClain, Moore, McBride, Berhe, Tayler would not make the team
Those rosters were probably some of the worst in team history.

do the coaching staff. ;)
No kidding.
I actually thought about that, but when you consider that roster you have to cut them a little slack. Still they were not good Shurmer, Shula, and Bettger. Also Hal Hunter! Judge, Garrett, Graham et al are obviously way better.
I see what point you're making but this info is all out of whack. Also coaching is miles above what it was.
What's the point you were getting at?

Older roster and half the players he said were on the team in 2018...were not.
Jon Beason? Victor Cruz? Jon Hankins?
I’m thinking he confused the 2013 team with the 2018 team but even then...it’s wrong
Think this was supposed to be 2016, which would be a good comparison, because it’s the last time a Giants team made the playoffs.
Yes, this roster has more talent than 2016. I agree. This is the strongest Giants roster I’ve seen in a long time. Let’s see how cruel the injury gods will be in 2021. Team has a chance to make some noise.
Also, as bad as the line was last year I’d take the 2021 offensive line over any line playing Flowers and Hart at tackle 10 times out of 10.
DRC wouldn’t just make the team he would be in a stiff competition with Adoree to man the right corner spot. Given how his 2016 season played out, he’d easily win that battle.
That 2015 roster was atrocious though. Cost Coughlin his job.

Not sure what that LONK is either...
I don’t know what to think about the OL comparison and I think the DL is a wash. But OMG, the difference at LB and secondary is astounding.
Bring obviously better and WR pretty better. Won’t touch QB because I do think a lot of QB is a function of surrounding cast. Inherently I feel like Eli was all-world but had shitty players with him.
Overall, we should be tons better.
Here was my reference.

Engram should be in both years. Also needs DRC and Apple among other edits.
