Sucks.....
0 for 3 (shocker), error that led 2 unearned runs.
Please show this manager the door..
Bases loaded no outs...I said to my friend, they'll be lucky to get a run. They got a run. McCann tried to hit into a DP, but somehow Arenado didn't turn it. Vilar wiff, Almora wiff.
I should never had garnered expectations before the season...these are the Mets.
They will get swept in St. Louis, win one of three in Arizona and limp home where Matt Harvey will further inflict pain on all long suffering Met fans.
God, I wish my father had been a Yankee fan.
Rant over...
They had a stat I think last week that said thE Mets were something like 0 for their last 29 games when trailing after 7.
It doesn't matter how good you are on paper if you continually come up small in the big moments.
One thing about the '86 team I remember is they always seemed to have that late inning magic. My fear is this isn't fixable.
I wonder if things keep going poorly if Cohen would have the balls to hire Beltran.
Cora and Hinch have jobs.
I don't get all the bad hires that happen in the world; especially sports. Pat Shurmer is a good example...you just listened to him and knew he was in over his head...same with McAdoo.
Why do smart people make such stupid decisions?
Oh, and perhaps it would have been better to spend a bit more to get Realmuto...McCann? Awful, Mr Double Play.
There’s still obviously A LOT of time to turn it around and we’re lucky no one in the NL East has broken too far ahead yet, but they need to turn it around soon. We all remember 2019. That was really nice team that finished really strong but just dig themselves too big of a whole and got it going too late to make the playoffs.

At least be fair and list Stroman (QO), Walker, May, and Loup... 4 pitchers who have looked great. Its a tough stretch but I still have a hard time believing guys like Carrasco and Lindor are going to be looked at negatively all year.
Neither of those guys are available, and I love the way Beltran thinks the game.
I'd rather give a guy like Beltran a chance than a guy like Terry Collins or Art Howe

Lindor, McCann, Lucessi, Carrasco, Pillar, Villar, Almonte, just not a lot of guys doing much for us.

Fair enough man. It’s still early and I’m getting a bit frustrated.
Really need to finish this split tonight.

instead of hiring beltran in the first place they should have just hired Dusty or Girardi, but of course Wilpons.

Beltran would be the perfect guy to relate to Lindor...
It's funny how Beltran's 1sr season FELT like a disaster, but it was no where close to this bad.
I'm shocked Lindor has been so horrible. It's just crazy.
Dont know when deGrom comes back but right now we are down three borderline aces and a top flight reliever...
Offensively, half the lineup isnt hitting yet and the half that was just lost two of its hottest hitters in Nimmo and Davis.
Just cant have that....
And while everyone should be back soon, it seems like injuries are mounting in the wrong direction at the moment. Even LG prevents you from having to see a guy like Peraza starting tonight.
So I keep hearing how Lindor is one of the best, like top 5, players in the game, and I see a player that never hit .300, never had a OBP over .360, had 100 runs or more only once (while playing for a winning team, it should be worth noting).
What am I missing? Does this not matter in the new analytics era? Does his exit velocity make up for the fact that the guy doesn't get on base?
I'd be worried that this is another Cleveland infielder that comes to the Mets and stinks.

He’s an elite elite defensive shortstop who typically hits 30+ HRs and has a .345ish OBP.
I don't like the current Manager. But I'm not sure Beltran would be any better -- does he have any experience?
I only mention it because if either was just ripping the cover off the ball I'd feel worse about Lindor's start.
Blame the players, they are struggling. Hopefully that changes soon, thankfully the entire division blows.
Well Lindor has 9 1/2 more years to figure it out.

9.8 years is more like it. Mets haven’t played 30 games yet and are a game out of first. A bad month is a bad month. Doesn’t make a difference if it is to start the season. Unless you think a 28 yo multiple all star forgot how to play baseball, he’ll be just fine.
Wtf.
So annoying.
Please explain to me how Rojas and Chili can directly cause a $341 million player to suddenly forget how to hit a baseball. I'd love to hear the absurd logic behind this thinking.

come on, man, you know how it goes, you can't fire the players, so coaches, managers, and general managers historically take the fall for widespread under performance.
right now almost the entire lineup is under-performing offensively. How do 9 players suddenly forget how to hit a baseball? Is anyone not off to a slow start - Nimmo?
I would agree with this completely.
Everything about the 2021 Mets so far feels awfully familiar. Which to me, is the most surprising thing about this season.

Then why even have managers and coaches then? I hear this all the time - "Managers and coaches have minimal impact on wins and losses". So, what's the point then?
Do coaches not have their own philosophy that they try to instill on the players? Sure they do. Players are going to slump, but almost the entire lineup? For a month? Chili Davis sure didn't seem like he was helping the matter. But it's hard for any of us to say for sure what was going on. However, the team does seem to be a bit undisciplined at the plate.
I also feel like the team has been extremely unlucky. Especially, Lindor. He's actually striking out less than he has the past couple of seasons. He's making contact - but either right at fielders or he's been robbed by amazing defense. To me, that tells me that there's an issue with his approach. Even the best players can get into bad habits. This is where a coach can help a player "get right". Especially a proven player like Lindor. It looks like he's trying to crush a HR every time - which makes sense since this is what his batting practices have been reported to look like. It's just my opinion - and could be dead wrong. But - as much as it is on the players - you can't have nearly an entire lineup look lost at the plate and not place some fault at the feet of the hitting coach.

I'd put these types of things persisting post-Wilpons as much more of a disappointment at the moment than Lindor slumping (as pretty much every big time player has after signing a big contract in NY).
I would agree with this completely.

I wouldn't say it's completely familiar - they are .500 despite the slumps/injuries and they don't seem complacent. Moved pretty quick to dump Chilli, etc. They added solid depth and it's actually winning them games (Walker, Villar, Pillar). Defense has been a lot better. Bullpen has been a lot better.
Just a few familiar things I'd hoped they'd gotten past (injury stuff especially).
Hopefully Mets can win this and finish up the 4-3 road trip and come on back home at .500 one game back.
Pitching has been great. Offense not yet untracked, but that’ll come. This is the first week they’ve played even semi-regularly. Only one rain out this week.
Walker and May have sure been excellent signings.
Hope the offense gets going of course.
Personally, I would have dropped Lindor in the order (even tho I’m 100% confident in him being his old self by end of June). But a hit and 3 walks is a nice outing from the 2 hole.
Now let's get healthy and go on a run!
