And how about this: the New York Giants coming in at No. 5 on Brandt’s list. Quarterback Daniel Jones is heading into a sink-or-swim Year 3 -- but never let it be said GM Dave Gettleman didn’t do everything in his power to give him the weapons needed to succeed. Receivers Kenny Golladay (signed on a four-year, $72 million contract) and Kadarius Toney (drafted 20th overall after Gettleman, yes, traded down!) and versatile tight end Kyle Rudolph (signed to a two-year, $14 million deal) join a skill-position group that will be further augmented by the return to health of running back Saquon Barkley. On defense, Gettleman secured a long-term agreement with centerpiece defensive lineman Leonard Williams. He also rolled the dice on comeback Adoree’ Jackson (three years, $39 million) rebounding from the knee injury that ruined his 2020 season. Another move that could pay huge dividends: snagging pass rusher Azeez Ojulari, a first-round talent who slipped to the second round. |
Burress, K-Mac, Pierce, Jacobs, Webster, Tuck
Who knows what the future holds and obviously all of it depends on whether or not Jones answers the questions at QB. I like where we're at though.

Totally agree. It has been a very good offseason.
PHI and MIA will most likely have more draft capital, and they will have some decisions to make about their QBs next year too.
If it turns into a pissing contest for the best QB next year, we might not be able to win it.

Would be a good landing spot for Rodgers
I bet money he is a Bronco not long after June 1st.
Fo they actually have to WAIT for June 1st any longer? They can designate June 1st before the actual date, correct?
I take issue with the "Sink or swim" narrative that is out there on Daniel Jones, really?
Of course this year is an important year for Jones. Just about every year is important for a quarterback, particularly a young quarterback. And yes, it's particularly important for a young quarterback that many / most feel hasn't lived up to his potential or been given the opportunity to show his potential in his first two years.
Was 2006 a sink or swim year for Eli? Many / most of us had doubts about Eli through most of the 2007 reason season, his 4th year.
How about 1981 for Phil Simms? Did Simms "sink" after 1981? Giants fans weren't convinced about Simms until 1984.
Yes, in today's NFL QBs don't get 4 or 5 mediocre years before they are cast aside.
Maybe this is semantics, but 2021 is a pivotal year for Jones; yes. Sink or swim / make or break; I'm not sure.
I think it highly likely Daniel Jones is the Giants QB in 2022, therefore 2021, although important, is not sink or swim.
Yes, I wanted both Eli and Simms gone at the junctures you cited

I know they can designate a 6/1 release in advance. I'm not sure if the same flexibility exists for trades.

Ah, gotcha

I can definitely see competing with PHI if we need a QB, but I'm pretty confident in Tua having a good enough performance for MIA to cross QB off their list for 2022.

The Athletic recently had a 2022 mock that had 4 QB in the top 10 and 5 in the top 15.
Jets are a trendy pick... much like the Patriots. No matter what the Patriots do in the draft, the draftniks laud their genius. The root of their reputation was earned by winning (a lot), but that ship seems to have sailed into the sunset. I think we see the Patriots, slowly loosing their magic and mystique as the Bills, Dolphins and even the (ugh) Jets get better.

You’re probably correct. That said, I have never seen the Belichick Pats spend AS MUCH as they did in FA. Not even close imv.
