NFT: Jeopardy

Why are smart people sometimes so stupid? You should never lose if you go into Final Jeopardy in the lead and get Final Jeopardy right. A more common error. Second place player not optimizing their bet to win (Generally betting too much).

Item 2. Who will be permanent host?
Bill Whitaker

is terrible.

and that guy made a huge mistake with his bet, not sure what he was thinking. scared money never wins

and a really easy question on one of the easier topics.

It’s like staying on 16 with the dealer showing 10. Just hit you’re probably gonna lose anyway. Don’t understand why he bet thinking she would miss that topic.
Did not see it the catagory last night

But you have to bet to enough to win. You just have too.

As for guest host. I imagine it is Jennings to lose at this point. The game is really the star on Jeopardy and the host needs to blend.
Have not watched recently due to lifestyle constraints,

but my wife and I will count correct answers and wager on Final Jeopardy. She has committed the cardinal sin of losing the lead even after getting the Final correct. I found the article below interesting with respect to gender statistics.

Shit, don't get me started about idiots at the blackjack table.

The title of this huge hit 1977 album was the idea of the bass player, who specified it should be spelled the British way.

I didn't feel like Ken Jennings or Rodgers had great screen presence. At least not as much as you need for a host.

I think we'll see a big difference when Burton guest hosts over the summer.

True. Matt in Syracuse was the perfect example but with him you had to factor in the insanity factor.

I didn't think Rodgers was that bad. I also liked Anderson Cooper hosting.
The wager wasn’t great and he probably
Metnut : 5/6/2021 12:41 pm : link
should’ve bet the lockout but there’s solid game theory to support his wager if you don’t like the category. If 2nd place bets optimally, he wins of both him and 2nd place get it wrong. If he gets lockout, then he loses if he gets it wrong and 2nd place gets it wrong.

It really comes down to how he feels about the category. It’s easy to say he made the wrong wager in hindsight when it didn’t work out.

I disagree no matter what the category. Many clues often need little knowledge of the stated category . I remember once almost running the category of opera. You need to play aggressively and not concede your advantage due to lack of confidence. I am not sure why you use the word “hindsight” but this has zero to do with hindsight. Bet to win every time. It must be horrible to simply give away a win. I know being a Giants fan.

He has come out and said that he wants to be the permanent host. He can also be the host of Jeopardy and play football at the same time. the entire season only takes a few weeks to film.
While I agree the game is the real star, the host should have some

gravitas.

Whitaker is not a good fit and neither was Katie Couric in my estimation.

I did like Dr. Oz, Anderson & to an extent Aaron.

I would really be interested in Levar!

My wife and I watch every night and we play on our Alexa as well. We are playing a game of thinking of the best hosts and seeing how well the other person reacts.

My ideas so far have been James Corden (She likes), Eli Manning (She was eh on it because of Aaron), Jim Gruden (Not at all)....but I would love to see his reaction when someone gets a question wrong.....CHUCKIE!

But my wife who is a bigger fan thinks Anderson Cooper because he sounds and acts so much like Alec (as my Irish in laws call him).

I use hindsight because their are scenarios in which his wager wins him the game and betting lockout instead costs him the game. No one is making a snarky post about him if things turned out that way.

The definition of hindsight is understanding of a situation or event only after it has happened or developed. Not applicable here.
Aaron Rodgers or Ken Jennings is going to be the host
moespree : 5/6/2021 1:59 pm : link
Really it's got to be 1 or the other at this point. There's no other planned hosts past this season and none of the remaining ones are likely to want it full time.

I think it will be Rodgers, personally. His and his soon to be wife's agent have connections to Sony as well as the exec producer of Jeopardy. It's one of the reasons they had Rodgers on celebrity Jeopardy a few years back.

I'd be surprised it's anyone but him or Ken Jennings.
Funny thing is
redwhiteandbigblue : 5/6/2021 2:06 pm : link
The best host so far, by a long shot was Mike Richards, the Executive Producer of Jeopardy and Wheel and the very first guest host. He had the stage presence and humor you need. Too bad he is not in contention. The others just don't size up so far.
Bottom Line for Me
Big Al : 5/6/2021 2:17 pm : link
I will watch no matter who is host. Like the Giants who I have always watched no matter how bad the product. Wonder how the loss will affect ratings and to me, why should it? I think I have heard that rating have gone down so realistically the choice matters.
Producer Wants Full Time Host
Samiam : 5/6/2021 2:22 pm : link
He said recently he wants the new host to be a full time host. If Rodgers were to get and accept the job full time, he’d have to pay back GB a huge amount of bonus money. I’m not sure Rodgers was that much better than anyone else that they would reimburse him for the bonus money. So, assuming the producer has the clout, doesn’t look good for Rodgers
Rodgers ratings weren't particularly impressive.
Waldo Jeffers : 5/6/2021 2:36 pm : link
First night numbers were bumped up by the curiosity factor. They dropped on night number 2.

His recent behavior should be all the Jeopardy people need to know - it should scare them away.

The truth is, being in front of the camera isn't easy - the game is what counts, and instead of some sort of stunt hire, a broadcast professional should be the way to go.

Their opinions may vary, but what this post-Alex, ever-changing host
experiment should show them is they need a pro to replace a pros pro.

Richards was the host after Jennings. I do think he was OK, but I liked Jennings and Cooper the best so far. He's not in contention because he guest hosted to honor Trebek and wants to stay behind the scenes.
I agree that the leader, who was pretty good, should have bet to win,
CT Charlie : 5/6/2021 2:52 pm : link
but there are some categories where you may need to go with your gut. Pop culture is one for me, especially facing somebody young. Shakespeare or the Bible might be such a category for somebody else. I agree that in general the FJ betting is foolish. Ditto the Double Jeopardy betting late in the game.

There are a lot of really good Jeopardy players who are clueless about pop culture – of all eras. As a high school teacher, I've known plenty of first honor roll students who simply don't know anything about pop music, movies, TV shows, and sports, but they'd hardly miss a question in all other categories.

Dr. Oz was terrible. Mike Richards was the best. I don't think we've seen the permanent host yet, though, unless they go with the logical choice and anoint Ken Jennings.
I’m in the Levar Burton camp too
