NFL Offseason Workout Program Dates Announced

uncledave : 5/6/2021 2:19 pm
Voluntary offseason workout programs are intended to provide training, teaching and physical conditioning for players. The calendar for 2021 is below, including rookie minicamp dates.

As per Article 21 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases. In 2021:
Phase One (April 19-May 14) has been extended from its customary two-week period to four weeks, with activities limited to strength and conditioning, virtual meetings, and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase Two (May 17-21) has been shortened from three weeks to one week. On-field workouts may include individual player instruction and drills, “perfect play” drills, drills and plays conducted with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, with each group permitted to align eleven or fewer players across from eleven or fewer players. Players on one side of the ball may execute a play, but players on the opposite side of the ball may not initiate contact with, or attempt to impede the progress of, players who are running the play. All such drills must be conducted at an acceptable walkthrough pace (i.e. Pro Bowl practice).

Phase Three (May 24-June 18) remains its customary four weeks in length. Beginning in Phase Three, clubs may conduct in-person meetings and classroom instruction subject to COVID-19 testing cadence, tracking, facility access and other protocols. During Phase Three, teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.
Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players. This minicamp, noted below, must occur during Phase Three of the offseason program.

Each club may hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, which in 2021 may begin on May 17. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-NFL Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft.

For detailed offseason program rules, please see Articles 21 and 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, available on nflcommunications.com.

Giants only have 8 OTAs listed. So either someone screwed up (typo) or Judge just got lazy.
Let’s hope the players show up, we need the work to be FTF and not

?

That's the same info.

Every team has a mandatory vet mini-camp.

Giants are only listed with 8 OTAs however.

It was my failed attempt at humor. I was pointing out the mis-spelling of Mandatory as Mantadory on the picture in the tweet from the NFL.
this is such BS. for god sakes i'm surprized they don't

have supervisors to count the minutes .
I'm guessing my HS two a days were way harder than anything these guys are doing.
I remember not being able to get out of bed
My coach was Seynour Red Kelen who had quite a distinguished career

including coaching UConn, on staff at BC and coached Bill Rominosky in the pro's,
He would have Laryngitis after the first day of practice
Last year's rookies

That would be a great idea. Players like David Sills should be allowed to attend as well.

I believe this is a great idea! But not sure whether that is in play at all.
Well

that answers that... it appears the Giants have buckled to the veteran players who want to work less.

Get ready for more lower quality football. Young teams will suffer the most.

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero

#Bucs QB Tom Brady joined an NFLPA call today and delivered an impassioned speech, imploring fellow players to stand united and have "very intense negotiations" with coaches on modifying offseason work rules as the union continues to push for a boycott, per sources.

Part of Tom Brady’s message to all players today: The NFL is the only pro sport with “overly competitive” drills during the offseason, and the all-virtual 2020 offseason showed there’s a better way. “There’s no f---ing pro baseball player that’s throwing 95 mph in mid-December.”

Multiple player reps said on the call they’ve already negotiated modified offseason work with coaches: The #Packers will move up minicamp and allow virtual participation in 2 other OTA weeks, while the #Dolphins will shorten days, keep upcoming OTAs to walkthrough pace.
What a joke
BigBlueShock : 5/8/2021 12:41 pm : link
Is Tom Brady really insinuating that NFL players are going at 95% during these OTAs? Wtf? That baseball comparison is asinine.

But at least the truth is coming out now. When the union first started imploring their players to boycott they were claiming COVID concerns, which the entire world knew was bullshit. They just don’t want to practice. And another thing, the NFL only has themselves to blame. They directed the referees to call less penalties early in the season last year to try to compensate for the lack of practice time last off season and now they are paying the price. The union is now using the manufactured “quality play” as proof they don’t need an off season program.
When you win the SB with a veteran team that is basically staying
Spider56 : 5/8/2021 5:15 pm : link
intact, it’s a big advantage if no one practices in the spring. This is Brady being aBrady trying to get every possible competitive advantage that he can. I don’t fault him 1 bit, but I do fault the Giants team leadership for not putting the team before the union bull shit. These guys need to break ranks and get their butts to E Rutherford and start getting better ... now.
