But what were the issues with his fumbling? 1 ‘aw shucks’ wipes out a lot of attaboys. Hopefully it was an overblown criticism that can be addressed and corrected quickly,
The Arizona coaches just decided to keep him from doing it all a lot of time even though they were obviously not loaded with talent going 9-20 over the last 3 seasons.
Either he really can do it all and the Arizona coaches were idiots for not using him more or his ability to do it all is overstated.

He flags the ball when he runs. His arms pump and the ball pumps with them! Coach Coughlin needs to get in his earhole: "Hold the damn ball high and tight."

They were interviewing the special teams coach. He was talking about special teams.
key. He looks like a big back in the videos I have seen which is something I feel like we needed. It sounds crazy to say it since Barkley is huge, but he doesn’t really have that power running style.
I can see Brightwell getting like 5-8 carries a game, maybe 10-15 for Booker, and about 12-15 for Barkley early in the season. Once Barkley is fully recovered Brightwell will likely be phased out with Barkley absorbing his carries.
Come on guys. 6th round RBs who run a 4.62 40 and who
declare themselves to be special teamers are not destined to back up the likes of Saquon Barkley. IMO, Brightwell was drafted because he is thought to be a terrific special teamer.
Don't think of him as Saquon 2.0. Instead, think of him as Zak deOssie 2.0. DeOssie was a LB, who learned to long snap. I don't know if he ever played an actual defensive snap at LB after he started to long snap.
If he shows Judge that he can pick up 2 yards on third and 1, Brightwell makes this team. If he's no good in short yardage, maybe he can learn to long snap. :-)
by one write-up I saw on Brightwell. Said he is not fast and lacks agility... So basically he can't do the things an RB does.
I just don't like this pick. Don't we already have a surfeit of STers? I thought ST ability was damn near a prerequisite to being on the team at all under JJ. We really couldn't have taken OL instead, however "developmental"?
supposedly he is an extraordinary special teams player

We'll have to see, but RB was a big need on this team. In addition, Brightwell has good speed for someone his size - you can see that on a number of his longer runs. There were also some runs where he showed some wiggle to his game, but he is more a slasher.
You don't have to have a ton of moves to be a really good running back in the NFL. Look at Joe Morris.

Yeah when I listened to that yesterday I had the same thought. That coach talked as if he could do everything...and do it well, but he only avg'd 80ish carries a year. Hopefully he becomes a good contributor for Big Blue.

Lewis Tillman was a slasher type back too and he was solid for us.

Well said....I was thinking the same thing. A guy who can do it all wasn’t able to do it all....why?
I don't know how 6th round picks can be so controversial to some guys
is identifying flaws and whether or not they can be corrected (fumbling). Giants think they can.
Nice article. I liked where they said he could have played safety for them. He just sounds like a football player to me that a coach would want on his team and a potential key in a unit (Special Teams) that were a little lacking last year. RB is probably not very much in the plans year 1 unless big injuries again.

So he is no scrub. Let’s see what he can do during Summer.
