I was excited when I read about Toney:
"He’s super smart,” Gonzales said. “And when I say he’s super smart: He’s a guy that I can play at any position and he can tell you what any receiver, X, Y, Z, he can tell you what the tailback is doing, he can tell you what the tight end’s doing.”
I knew he played QB....but expected his learning curve would be his biggest challenge....this would be home run...if he can be up and running by end of camp.
He doesn't play tight end??
I think Smith will be a bonified #1 receiver that will be a pain in the but and would have been great on the Giants.
However, when you look at the WRs we have, Toney brings something that makes our offensive unpredictable. As long as Golladay stays healthy, we have our #1 and Slayton may get freed up a bit to be an excellent #2. If Golladay goes down, then I don't think we will have a real #1 and we will have to be creative. If we had Smith, he would become that #1.
Toney will be playmaker #2 behind playmaker #1 Barkley.
That is how I view Toney. Not as a WR but as a playmaker defenses need to account for--if he is what we are hoping. When Barkely went down we had no one to scare the defense. Now we have playmaker depth.
I see us lining him and Barkley up in the backfield together and let the creativity begin.

Thank you, Sir.
he's no pre-Madonna
I see him becoming DJ's favorite target quickly with his short area quickness and run after the catch ability.

The Giants absolutely, 100% have to have known this. It has to have come up in their scouting. This is the thing: The pro scouts and front offices have a depth of knowledge we fans lack. They aren't always right, sometimes they miss things, and sometimes some fans get it right and the pros get it wrong, but we fans don't know 1% of what they do. Sy knows a lot more than most of us and he doesn't always get it right, either.
Afterwards, he press looks into it all, and then we can sort of reverse-engineer the thinking behind the pick. Like, now we've heard that Toney's hyper-competitive, loves football, brings a lot of energy to the room and is extremely football-smart.

Slayton is not a number 2.
I'm hoping Toney is more like a number 2. If Slayton is going to be better than Toney then its a bad pick.
I expect Toney ot be more like a number 2. If he isn't - it's not good.
Slayton is an outside WR.
In terms of touches Toney is competing with Step and Barkley IMO.

Year one performance from Slayton, did give the idea that he potentially could be a number 1. We learned last year when he was the primary, he could not be a number 1. However, he is absolutely a #2 potential. I think he will be competing with Ross for our outside #2 spot.
As was stated, Toney will be all over the place. I wouldn't even be surprised to see him in the backfield on third down as the 3rd down back at times--I imagine he may be good in recognizing the blitz pickup as a former QB.
There is a good chance that we will have a revolving #2 with sometimes even Shep being out there.
I have to imagine that almost any time Barkley is not in the game that Toney will be. Barkley and Toney skill sets make them serve as great decoys as well.

You've been here since 2005 and don't know what a pre-Madonna is?!
