Best season since Lemieux in 96 (in the first 53 games). Only the 9th player ever to get 100 points in 53 games. Lots of people feel like he's the best player since Lemieux. I know hockey's not the most popular sport in NYC but I hope you guys appreciate an all time great.

Well since Lemieux excludes Lemieux though doesn't it? Maybe I have my lingo wrong.
But to not consider Crosby great is irresponsible as a true hockey fan in my opinion.

Not sure it's irresponsible to say that McDavid is at least having a higher peak than Crosby. It's unrealistic to believe that there wouldn't be a better player than Crosby ever. Crosby was never THIS dominant. I also think Crosby is a victim of his play style. Crosby never LOOKED as dominant as McDavid. While that shouldn't matter I think it influences people's opinions. But that's just a theory.

I don't think anyone is denying that Crosby is great. I do think it is fair to say that McDavid is better and the stats and the eye test back it up.

What stats and eye test? It took them the same amount of games to hit 500 points. Crosby’s 5th season, and McDavids 6th. In that time Crosby has a Stanley Cup, Olympic gold, and another finals appearance. Both are great, but I’d take the one who’s won championships thus far.
but McDavid is definitely a better scorer and McDavid is still 24 years old, so that two-way game can still be developed.
Upside with McDavid is the best of this generation.

Championships are a team accomplishment though.
I think Crosby is the best player since Mario and I do not think Mcdavid is at Crosby yet.
I'm no saying he will not be or can't be but there is more to career than amazing season. Mario had to beat cancer, Crosby had to overcome concussions.
I was just commenting because I think a lot of people gloss over Crosby like he should not be in those conversations as if he is not a great player.
On the topic of championships not being part of it, I tend to disagree. It's not everything but it is something that separates Allen Iverson from Micheal, Kobe, and LeBron.
I'm not denying that Dan Marino was not a great QB either but when you compare him to other Great QBs it does matter.
NHL needs a new ambassador and McDavid is sure one that could do it. It will take more than this to change the "could be" and exchange it for the "is" the best since sentiment in my opinion.
