The #Jaguars are planning to sign QB-turned-TE Tim Tebow to a 1-year deal, per me and @TomPelissero
, a deal that could be official in the next week or so. Nothing done yet. But he’ll have a chance to make the team to reunite with his mentor and college head coach Urban Meyer.
If he had come into the league as a tight end from day 1, sure, he might have been something, but a new position this late in the game? If he makes the team at all it's because Urban Meyer is throwing him a bone.
Engram for all of his follies is easily better, it's not even a contest.
If he would have been willing to convert to a TE out college
they haven't announced the team featured on Hard Knocks yet they seem to be the clear obvious choice right? Meyer/Lawrence/Tebow + even the owner having the wrestling company where they can cross-promote the show.
RE: RE: Signing a guy who turns 34 before the season
to play a position he’s never played before? Smells like a favor for a guy who has a <2% chance to make the roster.
OR, it is a nicely timed distraction from the #1 overall pick who has a HUGE amount of pressure and scrutiny heading his way.
Hes also been a QB under Meyer and will no doubt know what Urban likes to do, can anticipate better than some other TE and athletically is like the perfect TE physique wise. I honestly think, had he made the switch years ago when Belichick wanted him there, he would have had a very good TE career.

Had the same thought. Maybe the Jags know they're going to be selected for the show (or want to be) and view this as... entertainment value.
Tebow was a QB, he had to know his receivers' routes and options, read a defense, etc. I think he can handle the demands of TE. His biggest challenge will be learning correct blocking technique and footwork. That said, Urban may not be getting him to be a blocking TE in that offense. Probably the "move" TE.
If he doesn't pan out, it'll likely be because he is 34 years old, with diminishing athleticism.
What's very interesting to me is how Tebow, a former QB who's greatest attribute was likely his leadership ability, is going to affect that locker room and Trevor Lawrence. Tebow is going to have to let TL be the leader. I think this can work, but it's dicey.
Tebow should've converted to TE when he was drafted in 2010.

"Football is not rocket science" sure doesn't explain why so many highly touted world class athletes (better than Tebow) flame out of the league.

I think you are vastly underappreciating the expertise it takes to play any position at this level. Has Tebow ever blocked before, no less a 300 lb lineman, or a 250 lb LB running a 4.5 40? To expect him to master it after being out of football for 5 years is a big ask.

Is a lot of hate for a guy not wanting to give up on his NFL dream yet and trying it with the Jags a team he should have went to in the first place.
Give me a break. No one is hating on him, merely pointing out that it is an awfully tall order to expect him to be able to perform in a new position at the NFL level.
Guess what, lots of guys have NFL dreams that don't get 1/1,ooo,oooth of the opportunities Tebow gets. Nothing wrong with that, but seems to be a lot for someone "hated" on so much.
The Jaguars are signing Tim Tebow to a one-year deal as a TE, in a desperate attempt to do anything to generate publicity, sell tickets in Jacksonville and raise their brand profile to make them more attractive in the UK per NFL Network.

So what David said above was not pure hate and I am not even talking about the stuff I have seen on Twitter. The guy has never been anything but class on and off the field.
Some of you guys that dismiss professional athletes

One comment out of dozens does not exactly measure up to "a lot" of hate.
Like Engram as you if they are a pathetic joke, show an absolute lack of awareness of just how special they are as athletes
Anyone who makes it to the NFL, let alone last 5 seasons deserves respect,
I think it goes without saying that even the guys who get cut from NFL camps are excellent athletes.
The idea that fans can't criticize them on the basis of how they compare with other NFL players (rather than comparing them with the athleticism of fans) is beyond absurd.
It's not the first time you've tried to make this point, and it hasn't gotten any less ridiculous with repetition.

Cut guys are not just excellent athletes. They are give or take part of the .2% of the population that actually makes it to an NFL camp.

Sure. That doesn't mean that they can't be graded within the context of the professional ranks. Sinorice was an amazing football player. He also sucked as an NFL player. Those two are not mutually exclusive, and there's no reason people discussing football should simply limit themselves to acknowledging that all these guys are truly elite as humans, and ignore that within that elite level, some are great pros, some are ok, and some really aren't worth a roster spot.

You re right. But the Narrative here on Engram at times borders on ridicule, Almost personal.
Fans ridiculing these guys is a pet peeve. I get the criticism, what you wrote about their performance in the realm of professional football is correct, and he does deserve the ire of fans in this regard.
Are you suggesting a 33 year old failed QB who's been out of the league for 9 seasons and who has never played TE isn't immediately better than a first string TE who made the pro bowl as recently as last season?

Criticism yes, ridicule not so much. Thanks for noticing that I ve made this point before, not sure why you think it s ridiculous.

I can't imagine him being used as an inline blocker but he will probably be an H-back. I
I assume this is a joke.

I wouldn't presume.
He announced in Feb that he was done with baseball.
Had the same thought. Maybe the Jags know they're going to be selected for the show (or want to be) and view this as... entertainment value.
And they're not wrong.
I don't think that's how jersey sales work. I believe it's a pool and teams don't get paid directly, they basically share jersey sale revenue.
It might have worked better if you spelled Engram's name right.

I don't think so. I think it's accurate to say he'll be a better TE than Mark Ingram.

Maybe. Or it'll draw even more media attention to the team in general, including a local cult-hero ex-QB providing potential storylines.
