Some fans. Well, many fans... have ire
CardinalX : 5/10/2021 6:21 pm : link
just for the sake of having ire.

And they're going to let you know about it because, well that's their percieved job AS fans.

It's a din all fans must grow accustomed to and be expectant of. Much like the din that accompanies the vacuum cleaner everytime it's time the livingroom needs cleaning.

You could possibly open all the doors and windows in the house and just wait for nature to blow up a gale sized wind that will blow all the crud in your livingroom out to sea but it would more than likely bring more crud than it removes...

So we suffer the din of the vacuum cleaner.

And as fans? We suffer the din of other fan's ire.

Just an FYI?

Our own ire creates a little din as well that others must endure. It all balances out in the end.

Like Engram as you if they are a pathetic joke, show an absolute lack of awareness of just how special they are as athletes

Anyone who makes it to the NFL, let alone last 5 seasons deserves respect,

I think it goes without saying that even the guys who get cut from NFL camps are excellent athletes.

The idea that fans can't criticize them on the basis of how they compare with other NFL players (rather than comparing them with the athleticism of fans) is beyond absurd.

It's not the first time you've tried to make this point, and it hasn't gotten any less ridiculous with repetition.

Criticism yes, ridicule not so much. Thanks for noticing that I ve made this point before, not sure why you think it s ridiculous.

It's ridiculous because we're all diehard Giants fans who want to see the team do as well as possible. When fans say "Engram sucks" or even something more hyperbolic, like "my 80-year-old grandmother could make catches that he drops!" that's not actually intended as a literal statement.

I just think you could probably assume that there's an unspoken acknowledgement that we all understand that even the players that fans tend to criticize are world-class athletes. I'm just not sure why we have to hand out the equivalent of participation trophies every time we criticize or even ridicule a player.

I do understand the annoyance at a bunch of fat guys eating cheetos in front of their computers typing "herp derp, this guy sux"

On top of that, many of them are beyond arrogant but don't understand what they are watching nearly as well as they think they do.

So yeah, a little reminder now and then is good; a little self awareness would serve this board well.
It’s all going to go to heck

Logan Thomas
It's actually both
Bricktop : 5/10/2021 6:59 pm : link
Dinkins had an interesting college career where he played QB, FS and TE I think.

Logan Thomas is also a good call (qb in college and backup for the Giants on the PS), but he never actually played in a game for the Giants I believe. But he's been pretty damn good for WFT at TE.

to play a position he’s never played before? Smells like a favor for a guy who has a <2% chance to make the roster.

And not just 34, but he hasn’t payed in 9 years. There are 50 street free agent tight ends who could do more. But they won’t sucker his hometown fans into shelling out big bucks for tickets. His gate revenue boost for the Mets minors ended so Jax is going to try.

You can criticize them as much as you want, that s your privilege.

But I m friends with a few former professional athletes, NFL, MLB, I have too much regard for their ability to use ridicule as a form of criticism, that s my take.

You think that s ridiculous, that s your privilege as well.

Somehow EE was a pro bowler over Thomas this past season. Another joke. Thomas looked so natural as a pass catcher. Underrated player IMO.

Seems to me, Tebow has already demonstrated that he can't

Curious what his primary role will be because it’s not going to be

A traditional in-line TE. I wonder if they’re thinking of him as a bigger Taysom Hill and put the ball in his hands a few times per game. And there’s no doubt he’s gonna be Urban’s guy in the locker room - could he be something of a liaison with Lawrence? The motivator and tone setter? Certainly there is the publicity factor.

If he makes it out of camp on merit, it would be impressive. If they bring in Kaep, they can kneel together and unite a nation.

His primary role will to create media buzz. Mission accomplished.

This isn’t about him playing TE, because he won’t. He ran a 4.72 40 12 YEARS AGO. He’ll be 34, he hasn’t played in 8 years, and has never played TE. This is about generating buzz for a floundering team in a small market.

If getting the top QB prospect in the last decade doesn't generate buzz, nothing will.
you're so right FStubbs.

If getting Lawrence at QB AND Urban Meyer at HC doesn't create "buzz" then it's time to relocate.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/11/2021 2:58 pm : link
How long are people giving Urban before he quits? Two seasons? Three? He doesn't strike me as someone who will be roaming the Jags sideline come 2025 or so.
ugh
PaulBlakeTSU : 5/11/2021 3:53 pm : link
Virgil Greene is 32, 6'5, 255 and ran a 4.52 40 time and he's played tight end as recently as last year.

Tebow is 33, 6'3, 236, 4.71 40-time, and has never played tight end in his life and hasn't in the league since 2012.

His season ended to injury, but he's a free agent. Give me Virgil Green at Tight End over Tebow.

The top 5 tight ends in this draft class all ran a 4.65 or faster.

I don't see how this isn't anything than a publicity stunt and a chance to reunite with his old buddy rather than actually trying to put together the best possible team.
Thr nfl network coverage of the draft even noted that they had

Nothing much to say regarding the pick of Lawrence to the Jags. Rich Eisen basically skipped right to the Jets.

right now as ticket deposits are doing really well with new coach and Lawrence coming into town.

Couldn't the Tebow thing just be Meyer extending a favor to a former player of his, and a favorite. Particularly at a position the JAGS are pretty bad at right now?
I'm old enough to remember the writer George Plimpton....
Fishmanjim57 : 5/12/2021 12:55 pm : link
Plimpton played in games in most of the major sports to get a player's point of view in his writing projects.
The whole Tebow fiasco seems to be as believable as Plimpton playing for the Detroit Lions.
I just think Tebow should leave sports entirely and just become a minister in a small town.
