It will be interesting to see who thier D-top six are next year. Fox, Lindgren, Truba and Miller are top four. I assume they add a veteran presence and then maybe Z Jones or Reunanen as the 6th. I assume Smith, Hajek and Bitetto are gone (but can see maybe Bietto as a 7/8 reserve). I'd love to see Smith back on a cap friendly deal, but I just don't see him fitting into this lineup in the future.
Waiting in the wings and/or trade bait: Lunqkvist, Scheinder and Robertson (and Skinner down the road).
it would potentially be a big mistake to trade him. He's only 21 and he led SHL defensemen with 12 goals and seven power play goals. He was eighth overall in scoring.
For a team that needs a #2PP QB, Lundkvist would be ideal. He'll play third pair minutes (since we have Fox and Trouba isn't going anywhere) and will help lock down the right side. Hopefully down the road they can trade Trouba and Schneider can be seamlessly inserted into his spot.
Left side is a bit dicier. Lindgren and K'Andre have secured two spots. The third spot is interesting because we have a lot of young players there: Zac Jones, Hajek, Matt Robertson, Tarmo Reunanen...I'd imagine one or two of those guys are traded. My guess is Hajek is almost certainly a goner and if I had to guess, I'd say Reunanen will also be the odd man out.
I hope they don't trade Lundkvist either, but can see them dealing him for a 1b center or top Defenseman. The rebuild is over and I think Drury will have pressure to make a deal to make the team a legit contender sooner than later. I hope they deal Jones and/or Robertson over him. I like Schneider and think he's what this team is lacking and don't think he gets dealt.

Lundqvist doesn't start next season waiting in the wings. He's on the team (unless he's traded).

The problem is he is prob worth more in a trade to the Rangers then behind Fox and Trouba

but I do agree with Dolan (eww) that the Rangers are really one dimensional. There actually is something wrong with having too many "skill" players, especially if they all kinda play the same way (Buch, Kravtsov, Lafraniere, Chytil, etc). Dury also mentioned it, that players kinda need "roles".. just like Lundkqvist behind Fox and Trouba, someone like Kravtsov might be worth more to the Rangers in a trade than on the bottom 6 pairing (Panarin, Kreider, Kakko, Lafraniere, Buchnevich (if signed) ahead of him)
Agree, he has a sniper's mentality and shot to match. He will put up numbers and he needs time to grow his game.
I don't 'want' to move any of these kids but realize the team will have to give value to get value and improve. First on my move list is Chytil, lots of potential, but he's not proving himself to be a finisher, and he's an ok playmaker, great burst going wide. Yes, weakens team at its weakest position. I think Lundkvist has more upside than Reunanen. Obviously, will take more to get Eichel, picks and ____?

Lundqvist will be the 3rd pair righty d-man next year. No way Rangers don't bring him over, as he'd be a FA after next season. He has put dominating #'s up in the SHL for a 19 and 20 year old the last 2 seasons.
The lefty D partner on the 3rd pair with Lundqvist is most likely not on the roster, or in the system. Some people may say I'm crazy but there is a chance Brendan Smith could possibly return for that role though. Not saying it will happen, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility for him to come back on a cheaper deal. He was solid this year on both ends, and showed toughness all year sticking up for teammates. Either way that spot will be a tough vet.
Hajek is a 7th d-man at best, he offers little on either side of the ice. Jones will play for Hartford next year. No way they put him and Lundqvist on 3rd pair together. Two young, small, offensive d-man? When the team NEEDS to get tougher? No way.
