I know it's early but a big national double header for Knicks fans tonight.
Celts vs Heat- Go Heat...ugh.
Official Lakers report says Lebron is out but most expect him to play tonight.
Burks and Quickley are still questionable for tonight.
Big game for both teams tonight as the Lakers are a game and half behind Portland for the 6th spot.
Knicks could drop this one and still get the 4 spot if they win the last 3 at home.
#LFGK
That's awesome the garden will be rocking!!
Pelle was a coach's decision last game
Neither is on the injury report
I would think so. They've lost all their games vs. Miami.
if we end up in a 3-way tie with Atlanta and Miami, we actually end up seeded behind BOTH of them-- we lose the 3-way tiebreaker there. Whereas if we're just tied with Atlanta we hold the tiebreaker over them.
As we know, we almost certainly lock up the 4 seed if we finish 3-1. But what if we finish 2-2? Well-- a loss by the Heat tonight essentially means our "magic number" to get either the 4 or 5 seed likely becomes 40 wins, instead of 41. i.e. a Heat loss tonight + Knicks finishing 2-2 would almost certainly get us either the 4 or 5.
I'm not counting on the Heat losing to both the Sixers and the Bucks btw. In fact -- The Sixers essentially have the 1 seed locked up, and if they beat the Pacers tonight they actually do clinch the 1 seed officially, so they may start resting guys against the Heat.
I'm not worried about the Celtics. We're 3 games up on them w/ 4 to play and they just lost Brown for the season. If we have to beat them at MSG in the season finale, so be it. I'd rather that than watch the Heat win and then watch the Knicks fall to the 6 seed (technically) if they lose tonight.
I don't care as much about clinching "staying out of the play-in." It's extremely unlikely we have to play the play-in. And if we do have to play the play-in, so be it. At this point we would need a COLOSSAL meltdown to fall all the way to the play in, lose both play in games, and miss the playoffs ... we're literally talking like less than 1% chance all of that happens (knocks wood).
So at this point I'm just thinking seeding. We almost certainly lock up the 4 seed if we finish 3-1. In my mind I'm thinking: what if we finish 2-2, how can we be sure to at least not fall below the 5 seed? Because I sure as hell don't want to play one of the top 3 teams in the East in round 1. So that's why I think we're better off w/ the Heat losing tonight.
Luckily... who any of us roots for tonight has zero bearing on the actual outcome lol
Yes indeed Knicks lose tiebreak to the Heat.
Knicks win tiebreak over the Hawks.
However-- Knicks place *3rd* in a 3-way tiebreak between Knicks, Heat, and Hawks (ugh).
Knicks tiebreak vs. the Celtics all comes down to who wins the reg season finale at the garden.
(I haven't looked at any 3-way or 4-way tiebreaks involving the Celtics though)
Before the Knicks beat the Clippers i was hoping for 2 celtics losses and that would basically clinch top 6..
Right now id rather Celtics win tonight, keep the Heat behind thr Knicks and at worst Knicks are still in 4th tied sith Hawks, 1 game up on Miami and 2 up on Boston..
Let's hope we win 4 straight and take care of business.
So let's go Heat. Ugh
I want this game tonight for the Knicks and to be one of the teams to help send the Lakers go into the play-in game.
LETS F#$King GO KNICKS !!!

Like I said in the other thread god it would be delicious to send those fuckers into the play-in, especially with all the NY'ers you know will be in there tonight roaring as usual. Phil from LA RIP he'd have loved it! I'm not one of those "we gotta beat them at full strength" guys and of course we need the game and I'd rather see no Lebron or AD but part of me wants to beat them so bad with those 2 to take away any excuses. Frankly for Lebron Despite his greatness I don't think the Knicks and their off the charts compete level on D are the ideal opponent to come back against. Just ask Kwai, Pandemic P and the rest off the Clippers. As I said Haha Lebron saying the guy who came up with the idea for the play-in tournament should be fired. If we're sitting here next Tuesday with the Lakers playing Steph and Russ at the Celtics on ESPN or TNT doubleheader the guy who came up with the play-in idea will not only get a raise and a 10 year contract he might have Silver's job by October! 🤣😂
Knicks win this game and my expectstions for the playoffs go up a little bit

LeBron. He might be the only superstar athlete I would hurl insults at in public. Hes a clown in how he manipulates the league, talks openly about controversial subjects and then makes millions off of a company that does business with a country that throttles human rights for profit. Fuck him forever.
Obi needs to take mins there. Hes been better especially on defense, maybe he can get a few extra fouls on him. I would also really like to see Randle not settle for the 12-15 footers. Work down low and make those bigs play you.
Quote:
Heck even without Lebron it would be. They smoked the Suns the other night without him. AD and Drummond really scare me because we just don't match up well with them. Taj really has his work cut out for him. They will throw Noel around like a toothpick.

Yep good point on Obi. He really seems to have found his role lately. Shooting with much more confidence. If he sticks with us Thibs will turn that guy into a good defender with his length and athleticism
Why wouldnt Lakers just list him as questionable?
Just reported targeting wednesday now.
Not sure if its good or bad.
Something tells me someone told him hey Knicks play a physical tough defensive game, why dont you rest and play against the terrible rockets
The Knicks are playing playoff basketball and don't take plays off it would be a rough game to be your first in 2 weeks.
The Rockets he can play 20 half speed minutes and no one will care.
I think this was typical overly optimistic talk from a guy who really wants to get back ASAP to help his teammates and Woj took it and ran with it, and really all he said was "Lebron could very well play Tuesday" but I remember he said it on Sportscenter in his typical Woj breaking-news way so it made everyone think it really meant more than it really did.
Lebron will be back soon but they're not rushing him back, I think Lebron wanted to be back for this game and that's what Woj picked up on and reported, but they're not going to rush it.
Exactly-- this is how I've felt all along. After the set back he had before, they're going to delay this as long as possible. No point in forcing him back 4 games early just to win a few final regular season games in HOPES of MAYBE catching the Blazers. The Lakers only need to win 1 of 2 in the play in, I would wait to bring Lebron back until the last (or 2nd to last) game of the season just so he can get back up to speed and be ready to win the ACTUAL must-win game(s) know as the play-in and then the playoffs.
If they plan on making another run and with the gauntlet they have to go through ahead of them, the playoff will be a long arduous haul for Lebron and the Lakers. No need to fast-forward that by 4 meaningless games.
Let's Go Knicks!
Let's Go Knicks!
I don't even bother. I will DVR & watch fresh tomorrow morning at 530. Get back East ASAP gents!
Something tells me someone told him hey Knicks play a physical tough defensive game, why dont you rest and play against the terrible rockets
Well honestly that probably is what the thought process was--
and at first reading that I was laughing at Lebron being a pussy, but then once you said "the rockets" I realized the reasoning actually sounded less weak on Lebron's part and more like supremely shrewd & rational strategy lol ...
because I forgot they had a back to back, and if you're gonna choose one game to play between the 2 (after all he's not about to play back to back nights his first days back off RE-injuring his ankle), the Rockets absolutely make 1000% more sense as the game to pick--
The game tonight is going to be playoff-level intensity basketball and the Knicks are indeed a physical high-effort team. You can't take Lebron from 0-60 off (re)-injury into a battle like that-- not ideal for getting him "situated" . Wednesday is ideal because
1) The Rockets are the perfect team to play your first game back against, it'll essentially feel like a scrimmage.
2) the Lakers need just 1 more win to clinch finishing no lower than 8th, so if you're main concern is just getting 1 win, between the back to back games just save Lebron for the one that will end up being a sure thing (Houston), rather than accelerate him to full speed against an intense opponent in the Knicks just 24 hours prior.
But yeah -- I mean just imagine if Lebron played tonight and aggravated his ankle and was out for 2 weeks. I think they realized chasing the Blazers 1.5 games ahead in HOPES they don't have to play a double-elimination tournament -- a win in which will be gift-wrapped for them by the refs anyway -- was not exactly a good reason to rush Lebron back even 1 game too soon. This move also kinds says to me they've accepted they're play-in fate and and are betting on themselves to win 1 of the 2, which they will undoubtedly.
Exactly I bet they had that exact conversation w/ him last night /this morning.
Awesome. More Elfrid! Haha.
Lakers are Knicks, Rockets, @Indiana, and @NO
Portland could lose the last 3.
Lakers have a shot if they win out which was a good possibility with LeBron .

Blazers are 1.5 up on them & have tiebreaker. Lakers pretty much need to run the table.

I was a skeptic when Rose came over earlier.....But I believe he's a key piece to our playoff run this year. He's shown nice touch on his inside floaters....hope his knees hold up and/or we rest him appropriately...
Make them call fouls

We need this one.
6 minutes mark like clockwork
2 pts 1-3
-7 plus/minus
Bingo. Right now he is losing us this game. Our only 2 misses from the line and 2-10 from the field. Awful.
They should be back in the next game or 2.
You can see what made him an MVP.
We got Frankie Buckets tonight. Haha.
Absolutely. I couldn't even get mad at him for that rhythm 3 he just missed. He's been great on both ends of the court.
no
fuck these announcers who make it seem like the poor poor Lakers are really just some scrappy underdogs
Frank getting crunch time minutes
No one cut off that double until it was too late.
Agreed.

It's simple, the ball movement on O sucks. No movement equals people not getting in rhythm and hitting their shots. That 4th turned into either Rose or Randle on isos. Get the other players involved.

Hogs the ball, who else did you want to have it? this is ehat the playoffs is , iso slow it down low scoring..
Heartbreaking loss but no one could shoot tonight and D.Rose willed them to stay in the game.
That's a tough west coast trip and they held.
Rough flight home tonight.

thats obviously not what im talking about. sorry i forgot he got a shot off after he caused a shot clock violation which led to nobody boxing out wes matthews leading to OT.
Man did we miss IQ and Burks tonight, especially late in regulation and OT. RJ would not have been on the court.
And I love RJ Barrett (and the leap he’s made this year) but there are times he gets some serious jitters and tonight was one of them.

Rough flight home tonight.
If they can make it through that trip together they can make it through anything. That trip should’ve toughened them up just at the right time, going into the playoffs but with a nice home stretch to get their bearings back. That said— I’m pissed we came within 1 rebound of finishing the trip 4-2 and only needing 2 of these last 3. 3 in a row in the NBA is always tonight regardless of opponents and even when you’re home. If I had to bet I’d say we go 2-1 , but: hopefully the Heat drop both to the Sixers and Bucks and hopefully Westbrook can get one on ATL w/ no Beal tomorrow. Sixers still haven’t locked up the 1 seed so no testing their guys luckily— hopefully Embiid plays I have no clue why he didn’t play tonight..
1 more win or Celtics loss and Knicks are in..
Heat still have to play Sixers and Bucks and Butler was hurt last night and didnt return..
Knicks own the tiebreaker over the Hawks so even if they win out unless Heat also win out, the Knicks control their own destiny..
Tonight another big night of scoreboard watching, Wizards vs Hawks and Celts play thr Cavs most likely without Kemba and Brown
3-3 on a really tough west coast trip is nothing to complain about...now let’s finish the week out in a big way
I don't know where we'd be without Rose. We gotta keep him this summer.
I don't know where we'd be without Rose. We gotta keep him this summer.
Imagine not being down every time he came in
Habe no idea why Thibs took out Frank for overtime
RJ was bad, but also we've seen RJ be bad and then bounce back in the second half or down the stretch. That did not happen last night, but it seems like Thibs gives RJ the oppotunity to turn things around. I'm ok with it, especially because RJ's development continuing is a key goal for the year. He'll definitely learn from last night.
All 3 teams tied after these 3 games Knicks are the 6th seed.
Knicms go 3-0 and Heat go 3-0 and Hawks 2-1 knkcks are 5th seed..
Knicks go 3-0 heat 2-1 knicks are 4th seed
I dunno. He's been really good for the past month, aside from maybe the Denver game where everyone sucked. I can't blame Thibs because he struggled for one game. From my perspective, he's been solid enough that he's really earned a long leash.
Either way, let's hope he gets back to playing well right away. Lets win out!
What others are you talking about? He gets a long leash because 1)he's shown much more than anyone else 2)Toppin gets less of a chance because he's blocked by Randle. Who would block Barrett, especially with Burks out?
With Burks and Iq it would of given you 2 more ball handlers and 2 more shot creators..
Quote:
is that RJ gets the long leash to "develop" during stretches of poor play while others do not.

I don't know that he's been playing really good. The shooting is obviously improved, but there are quite a few negative plays/mental mistakes. Payton gets a ton of well deserved blame for the slow starts, but RJ is part of it as well.
Quote:
hurt so the bench is short, but I don't see why RJ deserves such a long leash when he's not playing well. It wasn't just the bricks. He had several defensive lapses and a terrible turnover in the 4th quarter on a fast break. Lately, the only shots he's hitting at a decent clip are 3s. Excluding 3s, he's shooting 29% this month.
Habe no idea why Thibs took out Frank for overtime
things you never thought you'd say

That's fair. I guess I'd just say that given Quick and Burks were out, there weren't many better options available last night. Thibs might have yanked him for one of those on a different night where one or both were healthy.

Good info.
the numbers are pretty bad. he's shooting about 32% from both 3-10 ft and 10-16 ft. Additionally, there are several times a game where he attempts a 3 off the kick out when the defender is flying towards him and there's an easy opportunity for a shot fake and then a drive. But he ALWAYS shoots the 3 there. Most of the time, I'd say that's the right play since he's proven to be an above average shooter from long range, but there's quite a few times when you can tell his feet are not set and he misses badly.
Quote:
he has no in between game yet, he hasnt learned when to pull up and when to drive all the way to the hoop. He gets stuck to many times and that is where those bad plays come..

Yup we all hate Payton but Rj has been part of the problem recently as well..
Starting unit relies on Randle to create and score and Bullock to knock down open shots..
Takes Rj awhile to get into a flow
The only reason they are not down 10 right away is because of how good they are defensively
Plus the minutes he is playing is a ton.
He was obviously off last night in a big way.
He is 20 and playing pressure games every night, he will be fine.
No one stepped up last night to fill the 3rd scorer role last night and it cost us.
Bullock and RJ were off and not having Burks or Quickley cost us.
Frank played well but he is not that guy.
Can't win games with only Rose and Randle playing well.
I don't see any reason why he cannot get to the point where he is averaging 22-23 points per game, and beating up on a lot of defenders with his strength. This is going to be a very fine player for a whole bunch of years.
And yes, it makes sense that he might be tiring a bit as a 20-year old playing all of those minutes. Averaging 35 minutes for 69 games, why would he NOT hit a bit of a rookie wall, even in his second season at 20? He is carrying a massive load. If the Knicks find another star-level player in this off-season, Barrett will be in a position to take full advantage as the third piece.

I think they want to end up in the lottery.
The team has talent but it just doesn't mesh well.
They need to trade some pieces and rebuild

Derozan is such a poor 3pt shooter, I don't think he is what this team needs.
This team need a week off.
Get through the next 3 and we watch the play in
Also go Brooklyn... We need some pressure on the 76ers to beat Miami.
His offensive game occupies the same space as Randle.
His offensive game occupies the same space as Randle.
Derozan gives them a guy who can go get his shot when the offense stalls..
He moves the ball averaging over 7 assists a game this year..
He may not shoot the 3 but is deadly in the midrange..
With Randle and Rj improved from 3 and adding lowry it is plenty of shooting..
Derozan could be the slasher for the starters..
He is a good defender..
Don't sweat this game. Cs are destined for any in tournament.
Does he miss another game winner here?
No question. This fina 4-game draw for them was cake w/ no beal. Trae Young has a horseshoe up both his ass and his vagina

Welp either way we made the playoffs without the play-in game.
Which is tremendous considering what was expected this season.
Just win the next 3
They're 3-0 against Atlanta and 0-3 against the Heat this year.
So would I
Hawks spread you out shoot a ton of 3s, they scare the crap out of me..
Id rather play a team that plays the same pace, i know the games will be close and anything can happen
Yeah, feels good. Even better for being so unexpected.

We've seen them handle Atlanta though. Nothing about them scares me. I'm not saying the Knicks sweep but that's not a team I'm scared of.
Adebayo can guard Randle 1 on 1 and that simply breaks the Knicks offense.
For a long time now each year that I bought GamePass about a month in I would think to myself, why do I keep doing it?
Watching through the bad times always makes the wins of a turnaround so much sweeter, and this season has been especially fun. My daughter has watched every game with me, and Randle is her favorite player (and yes,we actually liked him last season)so we have had a lot of fun together!
BTW LeBron didn't play again tonight I think the Lakers are full of shit about him being 100%
Tonight...beat the Spurs & root for the 76ers/Magic.

Steve Knicks games have become must see tv events in my house with my 13 yo son and 16 yo daughter. It is a blast. The Clydisms, complaining about Elfie the ups and downs it's been great. God bless my son he even believed starting with opening night vs Indiana. My daughter calls the out of control RJ drives to the hoop his Thomas the Tank engine drives, and now we've all adopted it. When he pulls one we're like there goes Thomas again! When your kids come of age to really enjoy it with you and get all the inside jokes and banter nothing is better.
It's a good feeling and the arrow seems to be pointing up, up, up.

Great comments
my son 12 and daughter 13 both play pretty competitive basketball.
The whole family looks forward to Knicks games it has become event.
We live in St. Louis and they are final proud to wear their knicks gear to school and the comments are "have you always been a Knicks fan"
Took them to the Memphis game and it was amazing since they both understand the game and were so into it.
Lasting memories
Enjoy it Stu!!!

Larry that's great. I'm sure you alm had a blast at that one. Yeah my daughter has been a sports nut since like 7 or 8. We've been to million Yankee games but don't get out to the Garden much. Try to go once a year pre covid. Her favorite in person moments have been Garden moments despite the Knicks being so bad much of her life. She still remembers going to game 4 vs Miami when we were down 3-0 lol. It's so fun to see them get as excited as I do. Sunday the housexwas rocking vs the Clippers!
We are enjoying a really fun season. He's enjoying thanking his Celtics fan friends for helping the Knicks out with the loss. It's a beautiful day today.
I would not rest anyone until we are locked into the 6th spot.
I would much rather play in the 4/5 series even against Miami than play the Bucks in the first round.
After tonight it will be much clearer.
If Miami loses to the 76ers it will open the door to the 4th seed.

I think we can do well vs. Atl, Miami and even Milwaukee. Nets and Philly we will have major problems.

Nvm misread your post
Ooof typos galore. Should read:
Once the hawks win those 2 gimmes at home the worst they can finish is 5th. So we finish either 4th, 5th or 6th. When the Hawks win those 2 there is no way that that Miami and us finish 4th and 5th.
Celtics lock in the 7th seed with a win against Minny, they will rest everyone.
Hornets will still be battling to get the 8th seed especially if the lose to the Clippers tonight but I think we are too much for them
Absolutely. It would really be helpful to get IQ and Burks back tonight to give the team an adrenaline boost.
Hy crap I'd find myself rooting for the Heat for once in my life. What a weird feeling that would be 😂🤣
