"I didn't realize that the New York media was what it was at the time, I might have thought a little bit differently," Manning said. "If I knew about the New York media and how brutal it can be, I might have just said 'you know what, San Diego is the right spot for me.'"

I wonder who that kid was? How was he breaking the news to Eli?

Thanks BB56 ... I still had the video playing when I try to create the link and it would NOT go there. My bad.
That picture reminds me of Truman holding up the paper with the headline -
"Dewey defeats Truman"
Truman was smiling though. Eli looks as about as uncomfortable as 1 could look in that picture.
To be fair though he does say at the time Tagliabue kind of forced him to do it (go on stage with the uniform) .... and Manning did not know how any of it would was going to turn out.
lol - Truman knew what the result was. Truman could smile.
Jlukes - he was obviously kidding (nothing "dry" about it). Check it out in the Trey Wingo interview (link above provided by BB56) about the 9:26 mark. Some of these reporters they take 1 little throw-a-way comment/joke statement and try to get start a controversy? .... for what clicks? He was kidding. That was my interpretation anyway.
Good chance Ben is serving time @ Rikers right now if we'd drafted him.
Not to mention 2017 when they had a lead in the final minutes of the 4th quarter. I was at that one, the game where Beckham got hurt.
I never liked Rivers pre-draft. Never liked his arm. But he was much better than I expected. But I don't think he would have fit in here. So of that "big three" in 2004, I was glad we didn't draft him.
Roethlisberger is a great QB. So I have no problem picturing him leading this team to multiple SBs, too. And maybe even getting San Diego over the hump for possibly one. For a guy who never really got into optimal shape, his ability to extend and make plays was very unique.
I don't know if Eli would have done any better in San Diego than Rivers. The AFC was QB gauntlet with Brady, Roeth and Peyton. And in all likelihood, you were going to have to beat at least one of them just to get to the SB, and probably on their turf, too.
I think they all would have done pretty well in different homes. Maybe some different timings on their respective successes, but success nonetheless.
