I know this has been discussed and I know people will say don't listen but the fact of the matter is I really only want to listen about NY sports. I have Sirius XM and will listen to the NFL channel at times but I keep coming back to just wanting to listen about NY sports. Anyway, twice yesterday I had the Fan on at different times. Once they were talking about the NFL schedule to which Evan was excited about. Carton goes on to say, yeah we'll waste a half hour tomorrow discussing the schedule. He 100% does not want to discuss it, thinks it's a waste of time. He's on an afternoon sports show, it's insane he doesn't want to talk about something sports related. The second time I was driving my 12 year old to his baseball game. I was not really paying attention, thinking about work stuff. My son turns to me and says they are talking about girls in bars and condoms, what does that have to do with sports? The show is sh!t, and shame on Evan for going along with it. Micheal Kay, I think is boring, so this is NY sports radio. I know, I know, listen to Sirius but there are no staions dedicated to NY sports. Rant off!!
I haven’t listened to his show since the first week it aired with Evan. Its the only way to get him off the air.
Get into podcasts. There's outstanding content for every one of your rooting interests, including the Giants. Sports talk radio and tv is generally never worth your time.

Talk radio is much more entertaining background to me than podcasts. I can't listen to Carton either - but most sports podcasters have no charisma or skill on the mic.

For the first time in what seems like decades, NY had 2 playoff bound basketball teams, 2 contenders in baseball, and 2 football teams with good new coaches that make them worth following. Plenty of stuff to talk about
Sirius NFL radio is really good, especially their morning teams, but someone’s it’s too boring to hear them interview a Bengals backup LB or whoever
I honestly miss Bro and Evan. They dwelled a little too much on the Jets and Mets, but were generally knowledgeable, self deprecating, and fun to listen too
What can we do, Carton gets the ratings. A lot of people out there more interested in hearing pee pee jokes than the NFL schedule, I guess
I’m with you the MKS is awful. Don’t know how it’s even still running. Brutal. I strictly listen to podcasts. I really really enjoy the morning show with al and jerry. I catch that live at 5 on my way to work. Hilarious and they do much sports talk but the banter is truly great. I’m a big fan of al dukes.

I dont think Carton was the mastermind of his crimes, and I think he did time to cover up for some executive at WFAN. Its the only explaination of why they would hire him again the second he was done serving time.

Morning drive show gets held to a different standard because Imus held that spot down for so long and he wasn't sports talk.

I'm not talking about music, this thread is about sports talk radio and its still infinitely better in the traditional format. Podcasts can't really duplicate the communal aspect of sports, it just isn't the same.
I agree, I don't need 100% sports. But the difference is Boomer and Gio are decent humans who aren't throwing gas on every fire they see. Carton just sucks so much it hurts.

Agree about 90% of the time. There are however times when Boomer gets on his pulpit,preaching the "Boomer Way" on various issues of the day. I rarely,if ever agree with him,so I turn them off for that day,listen to some Springsteen & return tomorrow!
Howard Stern changed talk radio forever. He tapped into the concept of talking about his home life and people loved it because he made it interesting and he is completely honest. Problem is all these host do it now, and their lives are boring and they hide anything thats the least bit juicy so it makes for awful radio. I was in the same boat a few weeks back. I mostly listen to Sirius sports stations but with the Knicks great season I wanted a NY take so I listened to Michael Kay for a bit. All it was was boring inside banter between him and Don Lagreca and that Peter dude about Lagreca letting his hair grow, and then about Kay's 6 year old son getting batting tips from Paul O'Neal. Really exciting stuff. I decided to watch paint dry instead.
It matters how you do it though which brings me back to Carton. He's very much like posters on BBI or YouTube, or wherever - the existence is to start shit at all costs. Even if I ever agree with him I can't stand him.

Honestly the best sports shows to me are the ones that aren't self-serious, but people seem to want shows that treat sports like life and death and make them places where people can complain about how much athletes are paid.
I don't think Gio and Boomer compare to Carton at all. They're a decent listen. Morning drive shows are typically a mix of sports and current events, and they seem to handle both OK. Without the juvenile stuff
I don't need my sports talk to be 100% about sports all the time.
I would rather listen to a personality talk about their personal lives, or a movie or whatever than listen to two chuckleheads with 0 charisma argue over some "issue" with hot takes on something that isn't a black and white issue.
