The NY Times published a story that indicates that Poison Ivy is mutating into stronger more virulent strains. I link the article here
Today's NY Times Article on Poison Ivy
Below I also have linked a great video that shows you the most effective method in tackling the oil of the poison ivy plant which causes the rash. This is the time of the year when poison ivy is sprouting everywhere and you are most likely to come in contact with it --
the article above discusses how to identify it - but doesn't really address effective prevention - that is why I posted the link below

I never had a problem with it - Thank God.
Been VERY lucky to not deal with an outbreak yet. Last year I ended up chopping down a vine that grew 30 feet up a tree and was at least 3 inches thick.
One thing to note, if you're going to scrub it off, be very careful to not scrub so hard you remove the top layer of skin. It just lets the oil penetrate your skin faster.

I am sorry to say this -- but the oil does not just come from the leaves -- but the leaves have more of it once they come out. You can get a rash from handling the stem and the roots - and do not burn!!!!

Been hitting it with the Round Up Poison Ivy/Tough Brush spray and its been working so far. I think it was about 48 hours before I noticed the leaves starting to wilt away. I don't pull any of the vines out until they are all dead since the poison works through the leaves.

Don't apologize! I definitely left that out. Once the leaves have wilted away and I'm ready to rip out the roots, I do the full kit and kaboodle in terms of suiting up. Pants, socks over the pant legs. Long sleeves, gloves, etc.
I think I'm one of the lucky few without a super severe reaction to it, but I have so much I'm sure I've run into it exposed before.
And yes, please don't ever burn your poison ivy. People make jokes online about going the nuclear route, but that's just going to spread the urishol all over and give you and your neighbors terrible rashes.
I know. He'll declare yet another state of emergency on top of another one and continue to do as he pleases lol
