Expected for a team with this roster. If we can't get to 10 wins (still less than a 60% win %), heads should roll.
I also think that the Giants will have to win the NFC East in order to make the playoffs. Assuming the Giants win the division, here's the other possible / likely NFC playoff teams.
Suck it up fans. It's coming whether we like it or not.
So true. The 17 games is just a layover to 18.
The NFLPA - as usual - will get outmaneuvered by the owners and take the bait to get to the nicer, even number of 18. You can almost write the script how it will be pitched and how the players will roll over...

What players have to do is strike. What they need is support from the fans when they do. Fans will side with ownership because of the demographics.
1 more meaningless preseason game? I would rather take the former rather than the latter, but Giants likely need 10 wins to be in contention for NFC East.

After all of the outrage over safety, and I believe that is was/is a serious issue, the players still buckled and gave in to a 17th game.
The only thing more outrageous was the absolute chutzpah of the owners to ask for the 17th game after feigning concern over safety after the concussion findings. You would think they would have some decency. Alas, the gravitational pull of the all mighty dollar trounces any of their concern about safety.
I would bet pretty good money if the players re-voted now on the 17th game, it doesn't pass and the 16 game season is safe.
Ultimately you are right - the players simply have the power not to play. That just requires discipline and focus. But that's been much, much easier said than done. Just so many moving parts and competing interest - short time for earnings, non-guaranteed contracts, young players vs older players, the socioeconomics levels with the players, elite positions vs non-elite positions, etc.
And once the "millionaires vs billionaires" mantra kicks public support does seem to fade for the players...
Suck it up fans. It's coming whether we like it or not.
Googs. That's funny!
Unless we play the Jets, which is supposedly unlucky.
Except for the two seasons that we played the Jets and won the Super Bowl. But yeah, super unlucky.
And why wouldn't WE like it, as fans? It's more football that counts and less preseason. Did you think we were getting a finished product in the early weeks of the 16 game schedule?

Fans will support the owners not because of demographics. Fans will support the owners because they're selfish and want football, and the owners will be the ones who are broadcasting loud and wide that the players are the reason why football isn't happening.
Fan loyalty is on the players' side when they're playing, and on the owners' side when they're not.

I do agree with selfishness. I do think there is something more there, but this not the place to discuss it. Saying demographics might have been too much. I apologize.

I know what you were getting at, and I agree - in general. But I also think that the owners can crack the players with fan sentiment completely independent of demographics, simply because beer-chugging football fans tend to not be especially nuanced in their world-view, and will definitely side with whichever party is going to bring back their football on Sundays.
As a Giants fan, watching more Giants games is great. And just to be clear for those saying the fans side with the players when they're playing and the owners when they're not playing, I agree ... I am not a fan of the players, I'm a fan of the Giants. I watch whoever puts those uniforms on, and if a player goes to another team, I am no longer interested in him. I'm not going to apologize for that.

If we don't win the division, we'll be fighting it out against at least 2 of the above teams for the last spot.
Jameis Winston and the saints are not a favored playoff team, even with 3 wild cards imo. The falcons may finish with a better record then them out of the south.
Good point about the extra playoff spot per conference. But I think that makes 9-8 the new 10-6.
Don't think so, not with the added playoff spot.

Replacing 12-4 with 12-5 or 13-4? GTFOH.

That's not actually based in reality.
When college football went from 10 games to 11, then to 12, did you even notice?
Football weekends are the fucking best. One extra every year is a positive in my book.

It's silly to predict this time of year as it is.
In the future as the game continues to move away from its most violent, we'll probably have 20 games eventually.

Yep. 2 preseason games + 18 regular season games + 2 bye weeks is the future imo.
