How about this take from an Eagles “reporter”

The Giants might have the worst HC, QB, O-Line, D-Line in the NFC East

I try not to be triggered by this stuff, but being a reporter and such a blatant homer annoys me. The Eagles could offer 3 first round picks & Sirianni for Judge and I’d laugh and hang up the phone.

Brutal take.

come on.

Meh.

I love Judge so far, but I'm really not willing to anoint him the new hotness of the NFC East until he can at least post a winning record.

I think that will come, but Giants fans are pretty arrogant about a guy with six career wins.

Pretty damn good for a 1st year coach who inherited a team with 4 win talent, lost his best player, and didn't had the offseason program gutted by Covid.

Could the wheels fall off? I guess, but I'm surprised to find a Giants fan who thinks there's a strong likelihood of that happening.

As for the Eagles tweet -- not sure why you care so much OP. Not trying to discourage you from posting the thread, but my first reaction is kinda "who gives a shit what this guy says". Blatant homers do ignore me, but when they're beat writers for other teams or sports talk radio hosts from different markets, I'd say its best to ignore them.

Jones and Judge have accomplished little and the Giants OL has been crappy for 10 years. You are what your record says you are. Few are predicting that the Giants are going to be good this year either.

I think he is wrong about Judge, but until Jones and the OL prove otherwise on the field...they are fair game for criticism.

He doesnt have much competition with that idiot the eagles just brought in, and mike mccarthy who jumped the shark about a decade ago. Rivera is a quality coach, but Im riding with judge.

Giants have been good for double digit losses
Metnut : 5/13/2021 11:38 am : link
almost every year for a while. We’ve cycled through a bunch of coaches during this time, the OLine has been a joke, and Jones has been knocking on the door to set turnover records. The giants finished 1-3 last year with a series of blowout losses in the last 4 games before beating Dallas with their backup QB in a close game.

I’m cautiously optimistic about the current roster and state of the franchise but it’s not hard to see why NYG are a laughing stock right now. Put together a nice winning playoff season and you’ll see a lot of these takes fade away.

Does anyone expect him to be doing much more than keeping the seat warm for the next guy in 2022 (whether by trade or draft)? Really don't see it with Hurts at all.

that by throwing that game at seasons end, they moved us up in the draft, then we traded back to the same spot we would have been if they hadn't thrown that game, and got 3 extra picks (including an extra 1st next year)

There’s a lot to chew on for storylines and intrigue. We haven’t had bad blood in the division for a few years. I like it (not us getting hosed, just the blood).

It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think he was an Eagles fan growing up, and we know he has Eagles fans in his family, from comments he’s made to press. He’s a pretty fiery and emotional guy on top of that, too.

I'm concerned...

Eagles O did a lot better against Arizona than we did
Skins D is amazing
djm : 5/13/2021 12:16 pm : link
but the Giants D isn't. Yet the Giants beat the Skins twice and finished virtually neck and neck with them in terms of defensive rankings.

I'd take the Giants D going forward over the Skins. NYG secondary is much better and Lawrence and Williams more than stack up to the Skins DL talent.

Remind me again why the Skins D is any better?
Hurts and Jones are in the same boat
Go Terps : 5/13/2021 12:16 pm : link
They both need to prove they belong as starting quarterbacks in the NFL. The differences are that Jones's sample size is larger and he cost a lot more to draft.

Didn't suggest that, but no. Have never liked Hurts as a passer.

Admire him as a football player and teammate, but have to be much more convinced he is a legit NFL starting QB.
oh
djm : 5/13/2021 12:19 pm : link
I mention the Skins because the mere thought that Philly's D is anything better than average on its best day in 2021 is laughable. The Giants probably have the best D in the east, not the worst.

Again, Ill be here to confirm this by the end of the 21 season. If I am wrong so be it. I think the Giants D is going to knock teams around this season.

I've been wrong too many times to count
arniefez : 5/13/2021 12:19 pm : link
but I'll never be more wrong than if Joe Judge doesn't turn the Giants into perennial winners.

In about 55 years of rooting for the Giants that only happened once 84-90 and even that run was interrupted by a strike year disaster.

I'm not predicting he's going to win more Super Bowls than Parcells or Coughlin. But I am saying based off 1 COVID season so far there is not one other NFL HC I'd rather have coaching the Giants for the next 10 years.

Jones has been in the league twice as long, played for two staffs and now has that full year under the current staff under his belt. They aren't at all in the same boat even if they are both under pressure this season. Jones has EVERYTHING lined up for him in 21. Hurts is facing an uphill battle in 21.

You continuously ignore the progress Jones has shown under Judge in 2020. Cool.
right
djm : 5/13/2021 12:23 pm : link
the only differences between Jones and Hurts are of the negative variety from the POV of Jones. Everything else is equal, except Jones cost more. Yeah, NOPE.

Let's see which QB wins more games in 2021. One QB couldn't finish a game with nothing on the line in week 17 as his lame duck HC sat his ass faster than we could blink. The other QB was winning his last game in a must win game. One HC literally went to bat for the QB. The other HC literally got fired for taking a huge shit on the young QB.

Totally the same.

What progress? Less than half the number of TD's and similar INT figures as under Shurmur? Still fumbles way too much and struggles reading defenses.

entrenched and poised for sustained success than Hurts. At least on paper he is. Crazy things can happen, guys can over reach their expectations, but sitting here saying they are in the exact same place, except one sucks more due to draft status is laughable. Hurts might not even start for all we know. Shit Rodgers could still be traded to Philly...we know the Giants are going with Jones. We kind of know Philly is going with Hurts.

Whatever I wasted too much time already. We will see soon enough once and for all.
Stupid comments.
Pete in MD : 5/13/2021 12:28 pm : link
Only Dak is definitely better than Jones. Hurts and Fitz? C'mon.

O-line might be the worst but other teams have aging O-lines.

D-line is top 2 if not the best.
Three 1s for Judge? When he can create draft picks through coaching?
glowrider : 5/13/2021 12:28 pm : link
He has totally reworked this team into a program, and one that’s got a clear upward trend. He is a magnet for talent (coaches and players). He has shown us the difference between a Head Coach and a glorified coordinator. He has an articulated plan and he’s hitting his marks. Pretty good start.

I’m only being slightly hyperbolic when I offer that the man has done more for this team in one year than any other Giant I can think of since Eli in 2011.

I really don’t know what it would take to even entertain the conversation to trade Judge, but, minimally, I would not consider anything less than a first rounder (or equivalents) for every “expected” year we’d give up, and that’s a deal no living owner would make this early in his career.

This is the toughest sell of all the arguments made on behalf of Jones. You make it sound as if it's so crystal clear the progress Jones made in '20 that critics have to be blind to see it otherwise.

Even some of Jones's most ardent supporters would very likely say Jones played better as a rookie under Shurmur than at any point under Judge.

Maybe you have a much better trained eye than me, but the numbers do not support your position at all.
Also head coach?
Pete in MD : 5/13/2021 12:36 pm : link
McCarthy sucks, Sirianni has no experience as a HC, Judge only one season. So Rivera might be considered "the best" but the others are debatable.

Yes, the Giants only won 6 games last season, but that was twice what I expected.
