Vacchiano: Ranking on Giants' Drafted Players' Impacts

Angel Eyes : 5/13/2021 2:08 pm
So Ralph Vacchiano ranked the six Giants' 2021 draft picks on how much impact he expects from them. Ojulari's at the top of the list, Toney is second, the rest are in the same order they were drafted in.
Ranking Giants' 6 draft picks on likely impact for 2021 NFL season - ( New Window )
I agree with Ralph

Although it's highly possible Toney makes the biggest impact out of the gate. The massive hole at Edge, however, means that if Ojulari hits, he has a clear path to make a big impact immediately.
My question is about Brightwell...

Ralph says (rightly) that he was drafted for special teams and says that he is really good at it.

I'm not questioning it, but what does he (and others) use to support that last statement? Is there a metric? Most of the clips I've seen (not an exhaustive search) show him as a running back.

I've been asking the same thing. You think for all the buzz he's gotten as a "special teams weapon" there would be a video out there somewhere with highlights.

In an interview he said that last year, because he was the starting RB, he was only on 2 ST squads. Before that he was on virtually every ST squad. So, there is a lot of ST tape on him but you’re not likely see it on YouTube. I mean when was the last time you saw any ST tape on anyone except the occasional PR and KRers.
Toney

# 1 draft choice and an excellent athlete. I expect him to have a bigger role in the offense than " gadget plays"
Lmao.

What a ridiculous topic.

Carrying the anti-gadget play rhetoric across multiple threads with literally no thought. Impressive.

What’s wrong with the post? I expect him to be more than a gadget player at some point as well. Teams don’t draft full season gadget players at #20 overall. Unless we’re talking a Devin Hester type who literally changed games with his return capabilities. Kickoff returns are pretty much dead now so won’t see that again.

I agree that Toney will be MORE than a gadget player. I just don't have much response for someone who thinks that a player who is so well equipped to be a weapon on gadget plays should be removed from that role simply because of their draft status. And let's be honest - it's all because of a preseason kick return more than two decades ago.

Toney is potentially one of the most unpredictable weapons the Giants have had in ages. To just openly deny that unpredictability is absurd, IMO.
I’m really hoping that the top three

are an instant impact and end up elevating this team to a Division Championship.

The Giants Insider Podcast had some scouting dude on who thinks Robinson might be the Giants best corner by season's end. Yes, better than Bradberry & Jackson. That'd be something.
4 or 5 chances a game for Toney!! iI he nuts?
gtt350 : 5/13/2021 8:51 pm : link
he should get 4 or 5 chances a qtr
Well, Toney was drafted in the first round...
bw in dc : 5/13/2021 9:14 pm : link
if I recall. Which is a significant investment.

So the expectations should be that Toney gets on the field quickly - and hopefully starts - and makes big plays and scores points.

Heard a guy from draft bible discuss him on the giants insider podcast. He said he loves his physicality. Much tougher runner than Gallman. He’s a battering ram plus plays specials. He said giants fan will love this guy give him a chance. I’m willing to take a leap of faith and trust the staff and this draft pick. I’m on record wanting the Va tech back Herbert but we shall see
