NFT: Mets @ Rays GM 1 (5/14 7:10) McNeil back!

jpkmets : 5/14/2021 5:28 pm
Jeff McNeil rejoins the team tonight as DH.

Mets have to test their win streak against Rays ace Glasgow. Hoping Good Peterson shows up. Mets lineup:

McNeil DH
Lindor SS
Conforto RF
Alonso 1B
Smith LF
Pillar CF
Villar 3B
McCann C
Peraza 2b

Peterson 1-3 5.54 v Glasgow 4-2 2.37 75 k in 49.1 ip

Mets with terrible stats against Glasgow in small samples.

Big task ahead to win this game. Would be a signature victory early on.

LFGM!
Gotta think Alonso gets a DH star at some time in the weekend

Nimmo I believe is starting a rehab assignment rather than joining the team straight away.

Rays are patient hitters at the plate. Big Lefty has to nibble too much around the zone to be effective. He kills the free-swinging Phillies. This Tampa Bay bunch may just wait for the fat pitch.

ZGiants is on scene down there tonight, right ??

LFGM !!

I think that two of the better things the Mets front office did were
Ira : 5/14/2021 5:49 pm : link
to improve the bench and improve the bullpen. I'm amazed how well the team played after losing so many starters and how well the pen has done game after game.

Brandon Nimmo felt pain during his last at-bat for Syracuse last night, he won't be playing in a rehab game tonight.
that tag on Margot by Lindor was sick
Eric on Li : 5/14/2021 7:24 pm : link
and then a nice tailing 94mph FB K by Peterson on the next pitch. Defense continues to be a huge differentiator for this team right now.
I know McCann is struggling with the bat
KDavies : 5/14/2021 7:56 pm : link
but I love the signing. It is nice to have a C throwing out runners so often. Too many teams used to just run wild on the Mets

Lol, what an odd criticism.

Bummer of a loss tonight but
Metnut : 5/14/2021 10:33 pm : link
we’d win 7 in a row and can’t win em all.

Bright side is they Peterson looked great (even if left in too long) and some metrics think he’s been underrated/unlucky so far this year.

Let’s try and rebound tomorrow.
I hope somebody has

an encouraging pep talk with Peterson tonight. He pitched so well and I think he realizes Rojas left him in to prove that he can go longer then 4-5 innings and he almost did it.

Is going to be one hell of a pitcher for years to come - as long as he's handled well and bypasses major injury.

Rojas as a manager however - sorry fellas this one hangs on Luis - Dave's never pitched into the 8th inning and the first batter hits it 450 into the upper deck and THERE'S NO ONE READY TO COME IN?

Matt Harvey just pitched against us and nobody paid attention - Just like every Mets fan knows - Terry putting Matt out there to start the 9th was not the mistake - it was letting him pitch to Hosmer after walking Cain.

So David Peterson starting the 8th wasn't the issue it was not having someone ready if he lost Zunino - who lost the ball in the upper deck - Ok fine - Bring in May - start the 8th over with a one run lead - basic managing shit.

Sorry - the 7 game run was fun - 8 would be super cool and 7-1 in the last 8 is fine - But you can hang this one on the manager not listening to history.

Rojas did a poor job tonight
Vanzetti : 5/15/2021 10:02 am : link
Manage to win the game. Nothing wrong with challenging DP to go out and pitch the 8th but you have to have guys warming up. That’s a dumb way of showing confidence and cost the Mets the game and DP s win.

That said, Mets have been playing terrific fundamental baseball and you have to give Rojas some credit for that, especially since he said that was what the team was going to stress

It would be hard to beat trading Nolan Ryan for an over the hill Jim Fergosi
..
Named Later : 5/15/2021 12:05 pm : link
Kelenic wasn't with the Mets long enough to lay any claim to him, so I don't follow his Major League exploits. He played 56 games in a Rookie League before Broken VanWagonwheel saw fit to trade him away.

In 56 games he slashed .286/.371/.468 with six home runs, 42 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases. Nah.....we don't need an outfielder like that.

Seattle originally wanted a shortstop in the deal. Mets had 3 of them.....two were later traded to Cleveland.

Or Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano
Peraza was a sneaky good pickup - low K, some athleticism, versatile
Eric on Li : 5/15/2021 1:43 pm : link
very good defensively at 2b. .290 career hitter vs. lefties. Has never made a lot of loud contact but a competent player.
Yeah, the Nolan Ryan trade has to be up there as one of the
CooperDash : 5/15/2021 1:48 pm : link
worst (if not THE worst) trades in the history of MLB.

Never really understood the massive hate for the Kazmir trade. Don’t get me wrong, it was a bad bad trade. But while Kazmir has had a nice career, he’s not some HOF player or even a perennial All-Star type of player. It was a shit trade but he really didn’t live up to the billing.

As for Kelenic - Brodie better hope he doesn’t run into any Mets fans. What an absolute moron of a GM. A disaster from day one. And for fucking Cano.
Yay - gimme some more Nido

Awful....I mean, his ERA is 9.00...

Is he really ever your best option? Every game he's terrible.

What's the thinking behind sending this guy out there....ever?

live by the shift die by the shift
Eric on Li : 5/15/2021 3:55 pm : link
really hope this isn't reversion to the mean. Either way didn't really deserve to win this game so hard to get too broken up. big one to end the series to not get swept.
Ok maybe it’s the new NYer
Rory : 5/15/2021 3:58 pm : link
Complex that we see year and year out but Lindor man... he might need a sit down chat, I truly believe he’s believing too much in his own hype defensively.

Out of position at least 3-4 times today and it costed at least 3 runs.

Do we even have a backup SS ?

he doesn't decide where he gets shifted. heading into today he was still 99th percentile in outs above average and the entire team's defense had been great. definitely a play a GG could have/should have made on the first hit that broke things open but it wasn't routine.
also the backup SS would be Guillorme or Villar
Eric on Li : 5/15/2021 4:12 pm : link
so if the team were healthier he would have probably gotten to sit a few.
