Toney don't need no stinkin shoe

Toney, a wide receiver from Florida, tweaked his right foot during the first day of rookie minicamp, which he attributed to his cleats being the wrong size. Toney did not participate in the conditioning runs at the end of practice, although he indicated that was just a precaution, and he actually took off a shoe and briefly ran routes with a bare right foot as he tried his best to participate despite the shoe malfunction.

“I think it was just the wrong size,” Toney said, via the New York Daily News. “They’re figuring that out right now. . . . I do whatever it takes, you know what I’m saying? I probably have [done that before], honest. I don’t remember. It’s just me. That’s the dog mentality.”

Toney could have been seriously hurt...accidents happen. Who let him remove his shoe?

I've been thinking the same thing. How could they let him run around with one shoe on and one shoe off? He'd be better off with no shoes at all. And just the fact that one shoe fit and the other didn't strikes me as odd. Are his feet two different sizes and if so, why wasn't the team aware of this ahead of time? If he needs two different size shoes now, he must've needed two different size shoes at Florida. And why wasn't the equipment room stocked with enough shoes to accommodate all sizes and shapes that showed up for rookie camp?

Somebody in the chain of command dropped the ball here. Maybe more than one person. It also could be Toney who didn't speak up when he should've and instead winged it.
How the hell does that even happen?

How did the equipment staff not have him squared away prior to hitting the field? I know mistakes happen, but I’d think KT would first ensure his was comfortable with his gear and secondly that the equipment staff would have finalized the equipment matters before the first day of mini camp.

I think we can chalk it up to inexperience on the rookie's behalf....I agree that this was a risk that there was no reason to take, but you gotta love that the kid wanted to show his coaches his work ethic!

You know Judge and etc took notice...great way to start off on the right foot, but with the wrong shoe haha
This story smells.

Even High School kids own their own cleats (at least my sons did) and usually those cleats fit the kid's feet.

This smacks as Media Hooplah (horseshit)!
Having cleats is the reason FOR many injuries.

Cleats are there for performance, not to prevent injuries. You ever run around on grass? You need to slow down and really deliberate your movements, it forces you to. I mean I guess he could slip and pull his groin (in May) or he could plant and tear his acl. These guys aren't china dolls.

Toney wore nike. It looks like he’s signed an endorsement deal with adidas. Decent chance he told the equipment staff the size he wore in the nikes, and the adidas ran a little bigger or smaller and he didnt know yet.
Please tell me he is wearing socks in the cleats. I can't see how you

play in football cleats with no socks. Thought I read something he didn't have socks on TYSON style !
Could this 'insanity' be why Toney was available at #20?

That makes sense. I’m half size larger in Nike than Adidas. You think he’d have all that squared away, nothing makes you feel slower than I’ll fitting cleats. Need those babies to hug.
