NFT: Kobe Enshrined in NBA Hall of Fame

I have not been interested in the NBA for a long time, this diffidence nudged along by the mediocrity and offensiveness of the NY Knicks franchise.

That said, I wished I had tuned into his induction ceremony: the article quotes a number of moving comments made by Vanessa, MJ as Kobe's presenter standing along side. It was historic and grabbed my attention as a heretofore indifferent observer. When I was more of a fan, I clearly recall the draft in which LA took him straight out of HS, not so unique any more (or one and dones); at the time, it was jaw dropping to me. Kobe stood above the League in so many ways. Vanessa did him and Gigi proud.
LA did not draft him out of HS

they traded Vlade Divac for him

It was a nice ceremony. And one helluva class with Kobe, Duncan, & KG.
& Lakers didn't draft him.

Charlotte did.
And sorry to nitpick

But it’s not the NBA hall of fame but the Basketball Hall of Fame.

thanks for the correction, Vlade Divac not chump change. And Basketball Hall of Fame is more a towering accomplishment.
I would have loved

To hear his own Hall of Fame speech. Talent and an all time work ethic led to a top 10 player all time career. I think this Sandlot quote applies to Kobe, “There’s heroes and there’s legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never DIE.” RIP Kobe.
Joey,

true that. I didn't cotton to him that much when he was playing as it seemed his play and seeming demand for the limelight struck me as 'all about me' and a turn off. But there is no doubting his talent, drive to be the best, and as he grew older, a heart so big did he want to embrace family and aspiring ball players. rip

Never once rooted for him, but Kobe was super talented & put in the time/effort to be great. I always thought he was trying to emulate MJ to the point where it was just flat out odd.

Agreed.

Further, the Colorado sexual assault allegation would very likely destroy his image if it happened today in this environment. He was fortunate in that regard...

Bryant was a great two way player. I'm probably in the minority here, but if I would choose KB over LeBron all of the time. He was very much like Jordan with his ability to carry a team and finish off an opponent. His offensive tool box was as full as anyone's who has played the game.

It's super uncomfortable post 1/26/20 to talk about Kobe & Golden, CO. That's why when I hear people like Kyrie say the Kobe should be the NBA logo...like, I don't think that's a smart or the right move. It's part of his legacy, & not in the good part either.

Kyrie wasn't even 10 years old when that happened, he probably has no idea.

Hell, I was like 15 and remember it being in the headlines for months.

McSally...it was a HUGE story at the time. He was flying back & forth between CO & LA, in the courtroom during the day, on the court at night. He lost a ton of endorsements, though he would later get many back.
There's zero chance Kyrie is unaware of what went on.

Death has a way of glossing over some really unsavory acts. Kobe's transgressions have been largely forgotten. Kirby Puckett's as well. Many athletes and celebrities have a much different perception post-mortem. Guys who were considered rude or arrogant get portrayed as great guys.

Payne Stewart is a perfect example of that.

When they say "don't speak ill of the dead, that gets taken to heart for those in the public eye".

FMIC, good point. It's just when people start talking about making the NBA logo in the likeness of Kobe...well, there's a huge elephant in the room that we all know is there, but no one wants to address.

Fuck Kobe Bryant. The only difference between him and Mike Tyson, was that MT was not well like and hated in many circles..Kobe benefited from his fans adoration snd media splooging..
