Art Stapleton @art_stapleton NFL senior VP of broadcasting Howard Katz was on with @MadDogUnleashed today and, to Chris' question about Giants' two road games vs. Bucs and Chiefs being on MNF, Katz said: "ESPN loved those games." Katz says the network "circled those games." @MadDogRadio |

Don't tell Eric that :)

maybe they want to bring up "Do you know that former giants coach Ben Mcadoo wanted to draft mahomes"!!!
Seemed like their gameplan was the same every time they took the field. Mahomes running around until someone has a lapse in coverage of the deep third and throw the ball. Tampa always had 3 or 4 covering the deep third of the field and Mahomes didn't know what to do.
I don't know if it has anything to say about how the networks view our team competitively.

Networks don't care about a team's record unless it can be used to place eyeballs in front of the TV screen. The Giants as a big market team is always good for the ratings even when they are average.
Add to that the most important component, coaching. I would argue Patrick Graham is just as vital to this team as Judge right now. I hope they keep upping his pay each year to make it more lucrative to stay in NY as DC then become the head coach of a flailing team. No salary cap on assistant coaches lol. Spend away Johnny!

You’re being too optimistic, lets focus on how bad we can potentially be. Only the smart, educated fans can see how bad we will be. God we are going to suck!!

if the Giants go after Mahomes the way they went after Russell - Mahomes looked human with real pressure on him all game in the Superbowl, and KC has a new Oline

That gameplan became impossible when both their starting tackles went down against a fearsome front 7. Bienamy/Reid made zero adjustments to their game plan.
NFL needs the New York teams to be competitive to sell their commercials to more people. If they go on prime time it’s one less excuse for supporters not to watch the game.

The state of NY was a clusterfuck last year due to COVID - so if those ratings take into account the lack of restaurant/bar attendance, you will see a drastic change in the ratings this year.
The Jets and Giants have stunk before so I really don't buy that as the reason. And there was more excitement around the Giants in 2020 than there has been since 2016.
Would they be excited if it was the NY Jets vs. Bucs or Chiefs? Don't think so.

Bars/Restaurants will be at full capacity in NY as of tomorrow. Most restrictions lifted in CT tomorrow as well. There will be a ton more people watching sports in public venues this fall, the NFL would be fools not to take advantage of that.

Personally, I feel ESPN wanted our games because; 1) the Giants represent a huge market and 2) the team played well enough down the stretch in almost winning the division to justified adding their games on a competitiveness level. So everyone is right for once

I'm still skeptical. Why would a Pat Shurmur shitty 2019 team do better than a Joe Judge led team that was in the playoff hunt through week 17?
The Jets I get, their HC was a buffoon and there was no reason at all for even their own fans to watch. But doesn't make sense from a Giants standpoint - there's got to be something I'm missing in the data.
Almost every game was down, and Bucs/Giants didn’t so ESPN any favors last year.

Numbers outside of homes (at least Nielsen figures). They made a pretty big deal last year that they will *start* counting bar patrons etc but that would not be in the 2019 numbers, so this is apples to apples as best I can tell. Don’t know. Can only go by what the #s show, and they don’t tell us necessarily the why.

Insight into how NFL schedule makers view Giants, despite 6-10 last year, here's what Katz also said: "The Giants, they were a terrific defensive team. Their quarterback is maturing and Barkley was out all season. So I think we're expecting great things from the Giants this year"

I agree more so with your first point. Its a huge market. And while we may be more competitive next year, I think that no matter what, they are looking to capitalize on the SB teams playing the largest TV market and probably made that a demand.
