Giants get no Respect

Bruner4329 : 5/17/2021 7:09 pm
This guy historically is anti-Giant but I find this over the top. He has us picking 7th and also 10th with the Chicago pick. That means he expects us to finish worse than this past season. I don't think there are 25 teams better than us. I honestly feel we have a decent shot at the division and winning 9-10 games. If we pick 7th it is with the Chicago pick not our own.

Never heard of the writer. That said, we have been one of the worst franchises in the sport for awhile so are we due respect? I don't think so. I think we'll compete for the division too, but I get people not being high on us. We haven't shown much for people to get juiced up about our prospects.
Maybe he's making outrageous predictions

Has them going DE and CB.

Unless he feels Giants will move Dexter Lawrence, it makes no sense. The corner he said he feels Giants don't any long term vision with Bradberry or Adoree.

That said: if Giants are picking this early again, I doubt they bypass QB.

Man....not directed at the OP, but this is just something that never fails to get to me. Who f'ing cares about "respect"? What difference does it make if some journalist ranks your team as #1, #15 or #30??? The ONLY thing that matters is the games themselves! This is like ranking a draft class right after the draft...it makes NO difference in what will ACTUALLY happen when the games begin. You want respect..win games. Period. End of story. Everything up until then is just useless noise. Not worth a single bead of sweat off of any Giants fans brow.

why fans still give a fuck about what is written or said by the media. Especially after 2007. Not for nothing as optimistic as I am the Giants haven’t given anyone a reason to give them the benefit of the doubt after the last decade. To quote a good man, “talk is cheap, play the game.”

Exactly. Yes the team looks good on paper, but until it's shown on the field that paper means nothing
GIANTS ARE DOORMATS
Arkbach : 5/17/2021 10:10 pm : link
Well, what I'm reading and hearing is that Dallas should win the NFCE easily. Dak is that good and will score more than than the Dallas defense gives up. Washington is good. There is a lot of love for Ron Rivera. The eagles are just too strong up-front so they beat the Giants. Giants aren't mentioned in a many of the non-NY/NJ blogs and stories I see.

They have Drew Lock/Teddy Bridgewater leading the Broncos to a record that's top third of the league? That's interesting.
Odds to win the Super Bowl aren't a prediction of record.
81_Great_Dane : 5/18/2021 12:10 am : link
Also, aside from that, the Giants aren't going to get a lot of respect until they have sustained regular-season success. Which they haven't had since Parcells left. The regular season determines the amount of general respect the franchise gets.

Yes, the Giants won two Super Bowls — in years where they squeaked into the playoffs as wild cards. Their one dominant regular season under Coughlin ended in disaster. The Giants have been a consistently mediocre-to-bad regular-season team that periodically rises up, as opposed to Green Bay (for example), a consistently good regular-season team that frequently underachieves in the playoffs. Green Bay gets respect for the regular season wins.

Dallas gets respect for its big regular seasons though they haven't been to a Super Bowl in almost a generation. The Giants don't even though they've been to three in that time and have won two.

That's how it works. I wouldn't even sweat it. If the Gmen go on a run of winning seasons and division titles under Joe Judge, that worm will turn.

Except the mock draft has the Eagles picking at 6, and Washington at 10. And if you think three doormats in the division would give Dallas a commanding record, you'd be wrong. Drafts at 20.

Doesn't make much sense.

If that is the case there are a lot of teams that have not earned anything since 1990 let alone 2011.
I think you should be more disturbed that if the Giants
Jimmy Googs : 5/18/2021 9:25 am : link
are indeed picking 7th next year based on their record, that this writer still has Dave Gettleman making that pick...
I don't really care what anyone says
djm : 5/18/2021 9:40 am : link
during the best of times this franchise always got more heat or scrutiny both locally, because it's the asshole NYC media market, and nationally, because it's the asshole NYC media market. in 1989 the Giants were getting no love from anyone, almost on a comical level. In 2008 all we heard was how lucky the 07 Giants got.

The Giants NEVER get the benefit of the doubt like other franchises get. Not now. Not in the 80s. Not in the 00s.

even just certain transactions
djm : 5/18/2021 9:44 am : link
the Eli trade was covered and analyzed with such a laughably bad lens from just about everyone. Don't tell me if the Falcons made that same trade that Eli and the Birds are taking the same heat.

When the JEts drafted Darnold and Sanchez they had found their savior. Darnold was still getting love THIS YEAR and nearly everyone defended Darnold to this day that he was just a poor victim of the bad Jets team. Eli was always the problem. Always the overrated little bother of Peyton, even though he was WINNING. Darnold never did one fucking thing right but to this day is still being defended by some. And maybe that is fair, but Eli never received the same leeway. And it was 100% due to the Giants trading up for him.

The media is rarely objective and always agenda driven.
This doesn’t bother me at all
Jay on the Island : 5/18/2021 9:45 am : link
In fact I like it better this way. The Giants have played better at times in the past when they were the underdogs. The front office has added significantly more talent and speed to the roster but now they have to go out and perform.

I’m confident that the Giants will be in the hunt for a playoff spot but I understand why some people doubt the team after their performance over the past few years.
You would think that if the media hasn't been objective and
Jimmy Googs : 5/18/2021 9:50 am : link
is completely agenda-driven with respect to the Giants for decades, that at some point a Giant fan or two would appear in the media, huh?

Or maybe they just write on BBI...

Giants have been really poor for a decade. What have you done for me lately.
I find the picks a bit strange.
Angel Eyes : 5/18/2021 10:13 am : link
For example, Engram's contract is up after this year and unless he takes a major step forward the Giants would likely be in the market for a tight end.

No edge unless Leal can play 4-3 DE on a consistent basis? Carter and Odenigbo's contracts are up after 2021, we'd likely need some reloading.

We do not deserve respect. Respect is earned on the fucking field. I think we had a great draft and offseason. Gott prove it on the field. Until then, we are a laughing stock. It's fair.

Precisely. Start winning and the respect will follow.

djm : 5/18/2021 11:32 am : link
except 5-6-7 years ago doesn't matter anymore. Or at least it shouldn't.

Last year is one thing. And last year the Giants were under 500, but they showed progress.
Progress is nice

Giants havent won shit in a while, but past performance is not the only thing to base your opinion on.
Giants will be middle of the pack at worst. The AFC West and NFC South have only 2 really prohibitive teams, the Chiefs and the Bucs, they very well could go 4-2 in the division, then who? The Bears? Rams?
I cant remember all the other teams, but there is every reason for Giants fans to feel disrespected that some clown has them picking 7th overall in 2022.
Progress, ok
Greg from LI : 5/18/2021 12:02 pm : link
But this team was 2-8 outside of their own division, which was one of the worst in NFL history.2

All they have to do to change perceptions is win. This is the year to start truly turning things around.
"Respect" gets thrown around a lot...
rsjem1979 : 5/18/2021 12:47 pm : link
It occurs to me that often the people who demand respect the most deserve it the least.

The Giants will get respect when they earn it. Stop demanding that people offer their respect to an organization that has been genuinely lousy for a decade.
Who gives a fuck what some no name

Writer thinks of us.

What we should be worried about is Vegas the over under for us at 7. This numbers shows that A) they don’t have much confidence in the Giants B) we aren’t much better than last season.

Vegas is usually pretty good with this stuff and we shouldn’t be getting out hopes up for a Super Bow appearance.
