John Milius in is best achievement as a director.
Oliver Stone co-writing one of the most brilliant scripts.
The truly amazing score by Basil Poledouris which originally was supposed to be an 80s rock compilation.
The casting of James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom, Max von Sydow as King Osric, and the then unknown Arnold Schwarzenegger .
In my opinion the most underrated movie of all time - Conan the Barbarian.
Any suggestions for your most underrated movie as a composition; and in that I mean production, directing, writing, score, casting, acting, etc...
Thanks.
chorizo and eggs?
lol
Yep. This is a strange one for me. You mention it and people don't know it by its title and then you talk about it or show the end scene and everyone instantly remembers.
Doctor Sleep was great, too.
Good choice. Not only is it underrated but it has one of the most impressive casts you’ll ever see. Pitt, DeNiro, Hoffman, Patric, Bacon, Crudup, Renfro, and a few others I’m missing.
Mitch Leary: Do you have what it takes to take a bullet, or is life too precious?
Frank Horrigan: Well, I'll be thinkin' about that when I'm pissin' on your grave.
I liked Streets of Fire. Dafoe was great in that
It is always an entertaining movie.
Maybe because it wasn't my time, I just hate those movies so much lol
Nah. Everyone was in love with that movie back then.
I am always surprised by how many people have never seen it or know it when I bring it up.
Ronin
Locke - Tom Hardy's best acting job
The Road
I just watched Chef this past weekend for the first time and I am really disappointed it took me so long to watch it. Excellent movie.

Chef was a great movie. Good call
lol I just took the ones I said on that thread and added it to this one
Red Sun with Charles Bronson and Ursula Andress
Hard Times. Charles Bronson and his wife Jilll
In Harms Way. Wayne. Douglass. Meredith Fonda. Etc
"Sorcerer" is a great film, and was well-reviewed at the time IIRC, but it did no business. Unsuccessful, definitely. Obscure. Until recently, when it was released on video, for sure. Underrated? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.
"Blade Runner" was underrated when it first came out but within a few years the same critics who gave it mixed reviews were calling it a classic.
There are a lot of unsuccessful films that were really, really good. "A Simple Plan" comes to mind. Nobody went. "Son of Rambow" did zero business, got so-so reviews, but it's very good.
"Martha Marcy May Marlene," really good — hardly anyone went. Honestly that may qualify as "underrated" because it got zero awards, and it sure deserved some. Very unsettling movie though. Not an easy watch.
I know someone who absolutely swears that "The Counselor" is a masterpiece. I haven't seen it. That would qualify as both unsuccessful and underrated.
Agree with those that said Layer Cake and Road to Perdition. Both of those were really good.
Over the Edge
Lifeguard

All four are excellent movies
Yeah, that movie got surprisingly brutal out of nowhere, and then didn't relent.
One of my all time favorites!
Truly underrated.
That was the point of this thread.
To deem out gems like that one.
Good job!
Agree, Frequency is underrated.
Horrible Bosses 2 was funny and was so politically incorrect that I doubt it would be made today.
-The Prestige (Nolan's best and least talked about)
-Sexy Beast
-Sing Street
-Hell or High Water
-trainspotting 2
-good time
Munich
V for Vendetta
Alpha Dog
In Bruges (though maybe this is cultish)
The Kingdom
Syriana
The Peacemaker
Agree with those that said Layer Cake and Road to Perdition. Both of those were really good.
Cake i never even finished. No thanks on that one.
Munich
V for Vendetta
Alpha Dog
In Bruges (though maybe this is cultish)
The Kingdom
Syriana
The Peacemaker
Peacemaker I really enjoyed. But it was weird as I really enjoyed Clooney's characters miltary skills, it almost made me root against the US military.
Great sight gags.

And awards. It is a top 5 comedy of all time in my book. Along with Shawshank, I’ll pick it up anywhere and be happy.

Agree 100%: Underrated. There's a lot going on in that film.
We have a winner.
Firefly with Kevin Costner
I thought these were not only underrated but kind of flew under the radar, at least for me they did.

Wasn't the movie for Firefly called Serenity?

Actually we're both wrong...It was Dragonfly.
