NFT: Mets at Padres Game 3. deGrom

ZGiants98 : 6/5/2021 8:03 pm
Tonight's lineup:

1. Billy McKinney RF
2. Francisco Lindor SS
3. Pete Alonso 1B
4. Dominic Smith LF
5. Kevin Pillar CF
6. Tomas Nido C
7. Travis Blankenhorn 2B
8. Jacob deGrom P
9. Jose Peraza 3B

Sure would be nice to take this one! Last two games have been agonizing offensively but the pitching has been great. Villar still out of the lineup but is available. LFGM!
I would love to know the analytics
81_Great_Dane : 6/5/2021 8:21 pm : link
that put McKinney leading off.
Gotta have this one
jpkmets : 6/5/2021 9:18 pm : link
Have to start getting enough runs to beat the good teams. I think we are 2-12 against teams who are now over .500.

Got to find some offense.

Who else are you putting in that role? Pillar? Peraza doesn’t walk enough. On average, McKinney sees over an extra pitch per plate appearance than Peraza and about 0.8 more than Pillar.
They stranded a leadoff triple
Vanzetti : 6/5/2021 9:53 pm : link
The day after they could not score with first and second and no outs in the ninth. Need better at bats in those situations

dammit
Rory : 6/5/2021 10:23 pm : link
we should have scored here.
Never thought we'd see this day

Mets also first in pitching.
ZGiants98 : 6/5/2021 11:11 pm : link
Pitching and defense is likely a good reason we are staying afloat.
Jacob Fucking Degrom

...get some!
Degrom
sshin05 : 6/6/2021 12:45 am : link
Shutting it down. Arguable best team he's faced this year.
What a privilege it is
allstarjim : 6/6/2021 12:46 am : link
To watch this man pitch. I have to say, the only thing that surprises me with deGrom is that he hasn't yet had a no-no. I'm on the no-no watch on every start.

Boy would I love to see it this year.
Why the FUCK
speedywheels : 6/6/2021 12:55 am : link
Is he pulled after 85 pitches?!
deGrom
GF1080 : 6/6/2021 12:57 am : link
Getting sick of the team telling us fans deGrom can go a certain amount of pitches and then they pull him short of that.

Fucking Rojas would be probably pull him with two outs in the 9th once he hits 90 pitches….
Well
allstarjim : 6/6/2021 1:17 am : link
This is the year and the team to protect him. With the Covid year last year, you have to believe they are saving some bullets by not extending deGrom in these situations. You have a 3-0 lead and the bullpen has been a strength. I don't mind it. I wanted him to get the 8th but no problem with the decision.
Great win

Jake is unreal!

Yup. People pitched 60 innings last year or so. Teams will work to keep aces even lower than usual. Be surprised to see many break 200. Good to see Lugo/Diaz in the preferred roles. Perfect formula win for the short handed Mets

Hoping Stro can get the split tomorrow. Be a good week”s work even with some frustrating moments.
its a new age with pitching and hitting
sshin05 : 6/6/2021 1:43 am : link
if u can save bullets with a near guaranteed win, you gotta try esp with the way pitching is these days.

his arm was dragging in the 6th and 7th and asked out. Maybe we can hold off on cursing Lopez for this one?

DeGrom strikeout of Hosmer was just boss stuff

9 starts - 0.62 ERA. You run out of superlatives at this point.

We have to save him for those pivotal October games.

Seriously. I didn't stay up for the game but when I got the score and saw it was 0 runs for Padres my first thought: God I hope I didn't miss a no-hitter.

Hahah, yep, my bad. We got pretty deep into the single malt at my place. Obviously I went mentally back to the teams of my yoot.

Still, it was good to hear that Jake made this call. Important for him to do that at this stage of the year coming off the brief shutdown. It was good to hear that Rojas didn’t pull him when he was opposed to it.

mention of Lugo/Diaz combo at the end. Pure dominance.

Mets fans, we officially have an elite bullpen
deGrom

Is the best in the game. 0.62 era through 9 starts. Absolutely incredible
Getting Lugo back is huge
Vanzetti : 6/6/2021 1:45 pm : link
He is by far and away the best guy in the pen when healthy. Reliable, good control.

Also time to credit Hefner
Vanzetti : 6/6/2021 1:49 pm : link
Familia, Castro, May and Diaz are all guys who had control problems. All four have been way better this year.

Walker and Stro are better than they have ever been.

Basically, the entire staff is pitching at close to career bests. Even Lucchesi is coming around.
Hefner & Jeremy Accardo
Rory : 6/6/2021 4:34 pm : link
have done a incredible job. Really hope they are both protected from going anywhere after this season.
