NFT - Severino rehab start

k2tampa : 5:04 pm
The Yanks' Luis Severino had his first rehab start today at Tampa. He went 2.2 innings, gave up one run (in the third), two hits and a walk. He struck out three. It was about what you would expect for a guy who had missed most of two years. His fastball had some life in the first, but doubt it hit 95 (no radar readings on the scoreboard in Tampa). He had trouble locating his off-speed stuff in the first.

Was also surprised he came out for the third inning, but I guess his pitch count was low in the first two. He threw more breaking stuff in the third after the leadoff hitter doubled off a fastball. He threw 34 pitches, 24 for strikes.

Just as an aside, Beck Way followed Severino and tossed 3 perfect innings with 2 Ks on 34 pitches. Kind of surprising because his warmup pitches were all over the place when he came in for Severino. Of his 34 pitches, 22 were strikes.

Thanks

Lots of good bats at Tampa right now, especially from the left side. Smith (L), Volpe, Wells (L), Hauver (L), Sanford (L), even Bell (L). Eight starters hitting .274 or better. The slacker is DeMarco at .267. And Jasson Dominguez will likely be here in a month or so. But you won't see any in the Bronx for at least three years, and that's a stretch.

Oh joy. Well they get there when they do...
BA's report of the game

said he averaged 97 mph with his fastball and topped 98 mph five times. I remember during a broadcast a week or so ago that Kay said he was sitting 97 in his bullpens too.

Had him topping at 98.8 per Buster Olney’s in game. Hope his rehab goes without a hitch. These TJ rehabs are tricky. Big boost for you if he’s back for the second half. Hate to see these kids go down to injury like this. Hope he has continuing good health.
Can he hit?

Sevy has a lifetime batting average of .083. So he’d basically be the cleanup hitter on this team

It's a start!
What are they doing with Dominguez?

Let the kid play. Need to build up his value just in case Cash needs to package him to get rid of Stanton’s contract....
