He’s a mop up guy

This Yankees team stinks right now - everyone knows our defense is horrible and we have several starters below the Mendoza line - bullpen hurt by injuries is a fact - but cash has not done this roster right - odor - Sanchez - Frazier - Andujar - Hicks Constantly hurt - voit too - I don’t want any of them - we need a big cathartic cleansing of those very average or injury liabilities -

definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That is the definition of this team. If you know you are leading the league in hitting into double plays, then try a hit and run occasionally. It's fundamental coaching. It forces the batter to concentrate on putting the ball in play. Also, the other night he brings in Wade to pinch run and never gives him a chance to steal second. Tonight, he brings in Luetge to get out of the 6th inning. At that point, you don't bring him back to pitch the 7th. He did his job.

Anyway I'll bite. I watched all 3.5 hours of this bullshit. Boone knows he has a limited bullpen because Loaisiga and Green aren't available so why the fuck did he take out
German at 84 pitches ?

Luetge is not good after 1 inning and after him the Bp is medicore (outside of Chapman ) so by taking German out in the 6th it forced Boone to use Luetge for 5 outs and Peralta for the 8th. Thats where the game was blown originally.

Sadly I feel this long term trend will continue
PA Aggie : 6/7/2021 8:17 am : link
Some guys will start to hit; Stanton, DJ will come around, same with Torres. Maybe get Gittens to hit, and maybe Florial can get up and produce. Gardner and Frazier, meh. But they will start to win games soon.

But that will just make owner/mgmt feel they are on the right track. And nothing will change. They will feel that their system is good and be resistant to change...and will get bounced in the playoffs early (IF...they make it?!)

Sadly, the best long-term scenario for this team is a catastrophically bad season. Coming in fourth place, barely over .500, missing playoffs, miserable numbers throughout. As more fans are allowed in the ballpark through the season, the volume of boos will be deafening.

I do not blame Boone too much, he is a puppet. Cashman's philosophy though...wow?! As someone stated earlier in this thread, the redundant swing styles, the lack of adjustment, right hand bats only, etc. It is just the wrong personnel for this type of plan.

My core; Gio, Torres, DJ, Judge (pitchers excluded for now). Everyone else is on the market.

We as fans have always had THEM, the Yankees, as a team we could count on to have a good to excellent season. We NY area fans have been walking in a desert of failure for too many years through the four major sports. Only a few blips of success (thank you Giants!)

Yankee short term failure we can handle, we all know this has become long term failure. I just home owner/mgmt can see that too.
This team is 1965 all over again

Umpiring Has Been Atrocius This Year
LTIsTheGreatest : 6/7/2021 9:31 am : link
Last night was the latest. Robo umps will be here sooner than we think. I mean, that call strike 3 on Odor was just ridiculous. I know that there was no guarrantee that Frazier would have gotten the winning run home if ball 4 had been called, but by the umpire pretty much taking the bat out of his hands with that call, guarranteed that he wouldnt get a chance to win the game. 3-2 pitch to Brian Daubec was alot closer, and that was called ball 4, changing the complexion of that inning. Never like to blame umpires when you lose, but something has to be done here, The bad calls are piling up, and getting worse
UGH

Bad calls are aggravating, but alas part of the game
mfsd : 6/7/2021 10:59 am : link
worse, IMO, was Boone playing with himself in the dugout after the call on Odor.

If Boone had any gravel in his guts, that umpires shoes would have been covered in dirt while ejecting him. And the topic du jour should be how many games is reasonable for him to be suspended for the way he exploded on the ump.

But Boone acts more like the metrosexual vegan, gluten free, non-GMO, no fat, no sugar, no wheat, responsibly raised latte drinking type.

Cashman
PaulN : 6/7/2021 12:57 pm : link
Is a horrible GM, Boone is a horrible manage, Hal does not give a fuck about the fans, as long as they pay and show up, and the league has a gutless and moron for a commishioner. The Yanks will not change until Cashman is gone, that requires an owner who cares, has a clue, and has a little balls. You think Hal has that, maybe one of the girls can take over, because that guy is a joke. Did Cashman not see the team makeup from the late 90's? But he decided he is smarter then everyone and built this piece of shit team. Maybe Voit, Hicks, and Stanton will stay healthy and wake up. Ha ha ha, we got Gardy at least. What a fucking joke. Sanchez would have been traded two years ago because you a catcher who can be a good reciever first, unless he is a plus hitter and decent reciever, we have a horrendous reciever and hitter who hangs around because he an occasional homer, he has plus power, it ends there.Name me the good decisions Cashman has made. Iwill give you 2 or 3 bad ones. Girardi held the shit together, he got rid of him to steal his salary, since he left its all downhill. Now Cashman makes every call without pushback.
Boone is a loser.
Dave in Hoboken : 6/7/2021 1:01 pm : link
The fact that the Yankees though hiring this guy would get them over the top is both hilarious and terrifying at the same time.

It's time for Cashman to finally go, too. He's been given TONS of time to at least get this team back to a WS (not even win it, just get there) and he hasn't been able to do it. He's tried with the young guys. He's tried with FA. He's tried with pitching. He's tried with offense (and failed at an epic level offensively), and literally every single thing he has tried has failed. And worse yet, it looks like the Judge/Sanchez group from 2017 to now has already fizzled out, and it's only 4 years later and the team has never reached that level again.

Im with Del.

I remember the horror of the mid and late 60's. I watched Tom Tresh and Horace ( and they had positive contributions despite Horace's stone hands at 2nd).

I can watch the pitchers. I cant watch the hitters and the fundamentals. I definitely get discouraged by the coaching.

So much of this was obvious to a good fans eyes way before this. 1st, SS, and CF/LF/4th OF and Catcher are woefully manned by guys who dont pay attention or make really sloppy mistakes.

I shudder to think what happens when some of the pitchers reach their pitch and innings counts later this summer.

I guess we have to hope for Severino, Britton and Kluber to return to their best selves by August?

Ron from Ninerland : 6/7/2021 8:04 pm : link
As another survivor of the Horace Clarke era, this is one of the most unwatchable Yankee teams of my lifetime. This ranks with 1969,1973 and 1990. The only think thats keeping this team over .500 has been the pitching but that's not going to last. Kluber is already gone, German and Taillon are on an innings count and as we've seen Loisiga, Green and Chapman can't pitch every day. Lutge and Peralta have been decent but they have absolutely no margin of error with this team.

The position players on this team look like their still in spring training. If it were just the hitting we might hope they can turn it around but it goes beyond that. The fielding has been awful and the baserunning has been awful. Situational hitting wise this may be the worst team I've every seen. I'd like to see that stats of teams with runners on second with nobody out. I suspect this team is among the worst in baseball history of not bringing the runner home.

I can't put my finger on what the problem is. Boone's managing has been horrible and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him gone, but that's only a small part of the problem. I don't know where they go from here.

So did I. The only players worth watching were Mercer, Munson and Roy White, and I always looked forward to when Stottlemyre pitched. Talk about the dark years!
Another fan of the 65-72 Houk/Clarke teams
arniefez : 6/8/2021 10:30 am : link
Houk actually came back in 66. As bad and futile as those days were I was still young and I followed them every day of season living and sports dying with them. I remember when Celerano Sanchez showed up in 1972. Talk about a moment in time. He didn't even last 100 games before some guy named Nettles took his spot in 1973 the year George bought the team. But he left some good memories.

Those teams were fun to root for even through there was no payoff. 65-67 when the dynasty died was the bottom and really not much fun. From 68-72 they weren't horrible about .500 except for 1970 when they won 93 games and still finished 15 games behind Baltimore.

The 1968 Yankees had these players and coaches on their roster.

Pitchers

45 Stan Bahnsen
56 Jim Bouton
24 Al Downing
39 Steve Hamilton
40 Lindy McDaniel
19 Fritz Peterson
30 Mel Stottlemyre
58 Dooley Womack

Infielders

12 Rubén Amaro
20 Horace Clarke
14 Bobby Cox
26 Mike Ferraro
10 Dick Howser
7 Mickey Mantle
17 Gene Michael
15 Tom Tresh

Outfielders

29 Rocky Colavito
25 Joe Pepitone
11 Bill Robinson
21,48 Roy White

Manager

35 Ralph Houk

Coaches

2 Frankie Crosetti
16 Whitey Ford

That's a lot of Yankee and baseball history on a team that was 83-79 and finished 5th in a 10 team league.

But the year wasn't a total loss the Yankees picked 4th in 1968 draft. Thurman Munson was their choice and their starting catcher by the end of 1969 which was also Bobby Murcer's rookie year.

In 1973 George bought the team with less than 200K of his own money and his era ran until 2004.

2005 to the present has been the Cashman era a mixed bag of 1 WS win and enormous amounts of money spent unsuccessfully trying to chase another one. I'm hoping after this year it's over and a new one begins.
