Andy Reid's son pleads not guilty in crash

widmerseyebrow : 6/7/2021 6:40 pm
They have him speeding at the time of the crash with a high BAC...don't judges hammer people like this who don't plead guilty and show some remorse?

I think it's pretty normal to plead NG

It’s failure to think the justice system gets this stuff right even half of the time. Justice is blind...pshhhhh. It’s a good story to tell kids though.
yes our whole Criminal Justice system is based on

What a POS. I hope he ends up behind the slammer. I don't give AF who his old man is either.

WTF are you talking about? Do you think the prosecutor and the judge just say “oh, he pled guilty. He’s free to go. We’re not going to prosecute.”??? Do you really think that’s how things work?

he'll eventually enter a guilty plea to something. don't get all up in arms yet. its rare to plea to an indictment on unsealing. one of my mentors who does that work once had his client enter a guilty plea at arraignment. when i read the story in the paper and asked him why he said because there was perhaps more to be had on him, they just didn't have it yet.

I certainly made mental leaps with regards to this case, but only based on personal interpretation that a wealthy, connected person such as Reid will be such a benefactor as many have been before. However, my prediction is he’ll get “first offender” leniency, aka he’s protectors class.

You understandably misinterpreted my post, I was being somewhat esoteric.
I would have been shocked
bc4life : 6/7/2021 9:38 pm : link
and it would have been ill-advised for him to plead guilty at this point

A holes like him who should be in prison or the people who defend them.
The world would be a better place...

...if Britt Reid had exited with his brother. No sympathy for either of those dirtbags. If Missouri needs to refine its barbaric methods of delivering capital punishment...

I don’t know how heavily his prior offenses (in various states) will weigh against him, or how much his father’s wealth and fame will help.
In any case, the real pain seems likely to come from the civil suit.

I hope the family is well-represented (hers, not his).

Love blanket statements...Total asshole take. We may detest the act by a person, but the right to a defense is what makes(or at one time it did) the country great.
Even in the old West people were given a trial before hanging(most of the time).
I actually find it hard to believe he will get a plea deal. Pretty much every factor is against him, he has no excuses or mitigating factors. The defense team probably wants to deal with the civil suit before dealing with the legal issues.
Hard to believe he won't get jail time.

Or the people that make these types of statements?

o always detested John Adams for defending the British soldiers in the Boston Massacre. Didn’t he know that the country he helped found should not have bad people allowed representation?
I wonder if the Chiefs will have some liability...
BamaBlue : 6/8/2021 9:07 am : link
perhaps not in the criminal case, but certainly in any civil suit. The human part of this is obviously tragic; the optics of this for the Reid family, the Chiefs and the NFL are appalling.
I thought Andy should have resigned.

Yes he did not commit the act but he brought his son into the organization. Sorry, but I don't think he just had a few beers on that day.

People deserve second chances but bringing his son into a high pressure role was not the best option dn he also should be held accountable imo. A little girl has had here life totally altered and she did nothing wrong to deserve this. I am actually surprised more of the Chiefs fans have not called for his dismissal.

The system does not work without competent representation of the accused.

He may well get a plea deal. It may not be to his liking, but there s almost always an offer.
I'm a firm believer in holding people accountable...

for their own actions. The question that has not been asked is whether anyone in the Chiefs organization knew about Britt Reid's drinking problem (this was certainly not his first incident). He had a blood alcohol level of 0.113 two hours after the crash. He was obviously drinking at the Chiefs facility, because he left directly from work (unlikely he was drinking in the car since no evidence was found in his vehicle after the accident).

In 2007, he plead guilty to gun and drug charges from a road-rage dispute. He also plead guilty to DUI and drug charges from a separate incident that same year.

For their part, the Chiefs did nothing. Britt Reid went on administrative leave on February 11th (he still got paid), before the team decided to let his contract expire.
Why would he plead guilty now?
glowrider : 6/8/2021 10:10 am : link
Especially if there is a civil trial looming that could go faster than the criminal trial? The result of the criminal trial would be used as a basis of fact in the civil trial (doesn’t work the other way around).

I would almost never advise a client to ever plead guilty in the first instance unless they’re being offered something or need to throw themselves at the mercy of the court (rare!). You don’t need to plead guilty to be contrite, and those are two different matters. This is a process.

Totally. We should just get rid of all constitutional rights. Not everybody should have the right to representation. Great idea.

Who the hell is defending him? Fighting windmills over here.

Although there was just a kid locally that was an avid drag racer in Tampa and killed a woman and her kid in a stroller that were jaywalking. He was going 100mph on a road that has the longest stretch of sidewalk on the water in the country. There's a billion pedestrains, cyclists, and runners and some clowns are defending that guy because they jaywalked. Also avid drag racing dipshits. I don't even think drunk drivers are defending this guy.
