NFT: Mets: How Much Longer for Peterson

nygfaninorlando : 6/8/2021 8:58 pm
In the rotation? Another dud tonight. Couldn’t get out of the 3rd inning. Mets down 5-2. That makes 6 of his 10 starts where he’s gone less than 5 innings.

Nice for the Mets to have built a little cushion in the division but can’t keep giving away games every time Peterson pitches with Carasco and Syndergaard still weeks away.
No longer.

Peterson has been awful. Either use Eichhorn or a bullpen game. Can't keep giving away every 5th game.
under normal circumstances
CMicks3110 : 6/8/2021 9:05 pm : link
he'd already be sent down. 33 games in 31 days coming up, not 100% sure, maybe send him down for 1-2 starts to get his confidence re-set, and work on his mechanics. He probably needs a good 4-6 weeks down there, not sure we can afford that.
No more long, ideally

But like 35 games in 31 days with one day off or something starting Friday, I think he’s gonna be rolled out for a while along with some other weird suspects.

Carrasco’s never ending hamstring really comes into play now.
Eickhoff

I meant.
You can maybe hide ONE pitcher like this if you have
CooperDash : 6/8/2021 9:09 pm : link
a strong offense, but the Mets have TWO of them. Lucchesi isn’t quite as bad as Peterson but he’s only completed 4 innings three times out of nine starts and never completed five. And sporting a near 6 ERA.

Neither Noah or Carrasco are coming back any time soon. The Mets can’t continue to send out these two guys. They need to try something different.
Lugo or Castro could start
81_Great_Dane : 6/8/2021 9:12 pm : link
though neither can go long — it'd be a bullpen game.

I’d definitely plan to start Lugo or Gsellman for the second game of every DH coming up.

Best case also is complete 7 inning games from Jake Stroman and Walker.

Gonna be a grind to the ASB for sure.

Use Eichorn as well. I don’t know who he is, but anyone with a different name would be nice.
Lugo is worse than Petersen as a starter
Vanzetti : 6/8/2021 9:19 pm : link
And he is great in the pen. Why would Mets make that switch, given Lugo’s elbow
Jared Eickhoff is at Syracuse
BigBlueNH : 6/8/2021 9:22 pm : link
and pitching OK. Mark Eichhorn is 60 years old and retired. Either would be an improvement.
Oswalt is also back at Syracuse
Vanzetti : 6/8/2021 9:34 pm : link
I’d leave him in the pen, though

Give JE a shot and then maybe Puck

But DP needs to be demoted. He is lost right now
i honestly expect a trade

soon with this heavy stretch of doubleheaders on the way.

Go get Harvey.
stretch out

I really like the Harvey idea Rory

his FB velocity has actually been league average. He hasn't walked a lot of guys or given up homers. He is obviously nothing close to what he was, but for a month or two to get them closer to the deadline and eat some innings why not? Maybe he'd get a little adrenaline spike for a start or two - especially if he gets another big response at Citi. And down the line when guys get healthy maybe it's worth trying him out of the pen? It appears he's got some control back, if shifted to the pen maybe he can also gain back 1 or 2 mph in smaller doses as others have.

Honestly if nothing else it would be a fun reunion and there are still a bunch of guys on the current club who saw what he did for the team in 2015, and I'd imagine they'd be happy to see it on a personal level. It would be a good gesture by the franchise.
I'd

give Szapucki a shot, lefty replaces lefty (if that matters) and can't imagine he'd be worse.

his last start looked like his control was back too 1BB/7K's

Can’t worry about it now but how many innings will they allow
bhill410 : 6/9/2021 8:17 am : link
Szpucki to pitch? (I know I spelled that wrong).

I'm sure there is a limit, but it's June 9 and he's at 22 IP.

Even if it's 100 innings (I think it would probably be more) he's got 15 starts or so in him (if he's successful) at least
..

Any of the suggested pitchers would be an improvement over Petersen. He has to nibble around the plate too much and when he does throw a fastball down the middle....it's batting practice.

I like the Harvey idea, that would be fun. I'd want to see Szapucki up here soon too. Been following his recovery through the minors.

Szapucki or SRF
JB_in_DC : 6/9/2021 9:13 am : link
would be my preference. Peterson has been brutal.
I still feel like Peterson has the stuff to be successful...
moze1021 : 6/9/2021 9:13 am : link
but he's lost mentally right now.

I think his stuff is plenty good enough to be a 4th starter.

Needs to go down and get straightened out.

I'd want to see Petersen find a good lefty Pitching Coach. A guy as big as Petersen has to find some more velocity on his FB. How about some Quality Time with Frank Viola ??
