He has a lot of tools to work with and I think he offers more upside than Thorson.
is this based on your scouting or what you have read?
A bit of both. I mean he obviously didn't play last season and his Senior Bowl week was subpar, but he looked really promising once upon a time at Wake Forest
and transfer to UGA might have been the worst of his life. He lit it up his last season at WF and was absolutely cemented as the starter for the next season. I think it went to his head; made some vaguely condescending announcement that he'd done all he could there and was moving on to bigger, better things (yeah, I know UGA has a QB "guru," but still...). Been all downhill from there.

I'm a pretty plugged in FSU fan and remember thinking this same exact thing at the time. He was in a great situation and made an unforced error.
I'd rather they kept Clayton Thorson on the PS and develop him
as a solid #2 to DJ for the coming years.
At Northwestern Thorson showed a very good arm and solid overall QB play.
It would be good to have him assume the #2 after this season, if for no other reason than to keep the salary cap cost down.
Of course, let's see how he plays in the pre-season games to confirm this potential.
for opting out last year given all the uncertainty and i have no idea what his family situation was. But seems like this kid may really regret not playing at UGA last year
He injured his knee. No team will claim and he'll revert to the Eagles IR list.

But here's the thing: when was the last time he played organized football prior to the Senior Bowl? I'd be more surprised if he was impressive.
Undrafted and washes out before even reaching training camp. On a team that has an unsettled QB situation.

Certainly not a vote of confidence for him to be cut so early. That's true.

Jags only looking for 5th or 6th rounder for Minshew? - ( New Window )
