NFT: Knick Chat

Pete44 : 6/11/2021 10:57 am
It is being reported by Empire Sports Media that the Knicks are one of the teams interested in Pacers C Myles Turner.

This would make some sense as Turner is a rim protector and an offensive threat. The lack of Gibson/Noel being an offensive threat was definitely a detriment in the Hawks series. Of course, the cost could be prohibitive as Indiana is tough to deal with.

Gotta get the ball out of KD’s hands and if you lose because of Joe Harris or Shamet, oh well. Jrue Holliday was AWFUL down the stretch. Like embarrassingly so. He can’t take a one legged man off of the dribble?????? Budenholzer was horrendous too.
Not that he had to draw up much
Stu11 : 6/15/2021 11:09 pm : link
But give Nash credit for leaving Durant in there for 48. Durant can rest in August. He was their only shot tonight. Also give Jeff Green credit. His early shooting kept them in it when they easily could have been down 25.

may have been the worst shot of the closing stretch, tie game, you have harden on you and you settle for a fadeaway...

On another late possession, Harden was guarding Brook Lopez and Lopez just stood at the three point line watching Giannis.

Not a well coached team. I still can’t believe Holliday couldn’t exploit Harden.
Happy for Randle

but I'm a little surprised he made it over guys like Tatum, Mitchell, Booker.

I definitely give Nash credit for the job he's done, really all year but especially in the playoffs. He hasn't been perfect but what coach is. I think how good of a job he's doing for this being his first year in coaching is being overshadowed by the fact he clearly has the most talented team. But he's really made this team often look like a well-oiled machine which actually isn't easy for a team with 3 future HOFers who all like the ball in their hands and have rarely been on the court altogether at once.

Randle deserved it. If Tatum has a complaint, it should be with Jimmy Butler making it over him. He missed a bunch of games.

Booker and Mitchell are guards. That has nothing to do with Randle.

I was about to say the Nets literally have the 2 best coaches in the series right now.
Just thinking more about offseason ...

I’m kind of liking the idea of just staying safe and wait to sign the big money stars in 2022. Unless Kawhi becomes available of course. But if no Kawhi, I like the idea of signing Dinwiddie and Powell, and re-signing most of our own UFA guys (the ones we like lol). Let Dinwiddie start and do what Payton was supposed to do all year and Rose can go back to coming off the bench . I’d also be fine w/ them getting Myles Turner if they don’t have to give up too much— having a center who can shoot from the outside will open things up, but I’d like to also keep Mitchell Robinson too (we need both guys so one can hedge against the other’s injury risk lol).

I feel like if we do this we obviously don’t compete for a title next year, but in 2022 we’d be in prime position cap-wise to make multiple big splashes when the UFA class will be better. I mean I like Derozan but he is 32 years old do we really think he’s gonna be one of our main options in our future title run (whenever that actually becomes a realistic thing lol)? Lowry is a little different story since I think he’s a guy you just bring in for like 2 years— lower risk IMO, and him and Rose tag teaming at PG for the next 2 years , we’d be in good hands while we search for /develop a PG of the future.
Dinwiddie gives us a playmaker
Leg of Theismann : 6/16/2021 4:06 am : link
Who can drive and kick and get guys good looks. Powell gives us a sharpshooter who can play some good D. I’m not a huge fan of Myles Turner because he’s not a good rebounder (despite his size fooling people) but hey I can definitely see the resulting indirect and direct benefits of a center who can shoot from the outside.

Well I mean he did shoot 47.5% from 3 this year on 6.4 attempts per game. Granted he’s choking like a shit-eating dog in this series but at least for his production in the regular season there are definitely worse-spent $20M contracts out there.
starting to look at some draft prospects
nygiants16 : 6/16/2021 8:12 am : link
Why is Jared Butler not getting more love? He can shoot the 3, has good handle, get into the lane and finish, good passer, good defender..

Is it because he is a little bit older?

a lot will depend on who signs extensions who are eligible for free agency in 22..

Guys like Lavine, Curry and Beal could all sign extensions

I know he has put up some nice stats but what a disappointment this series. Complete choke job last night and what a disaster collapse from the Bucks. All time performance from Durant but the Bucks completely blew that game.

And how does Giannis not guard Durant ever? Built like an andonis , 26 and supposedly one of the best defenders in the league? The guy is soft.

He is only 63 and just got his dream job, I seriously doubt he or the Knicks have discussed his retirement.

see Thibs going anywhere anytime soon. 2021 was a very strong season given expectations which means even if they stunk next season he'd almost certainly be back so you're looking at 2+ years down the line. Guys like Payne etc aren't holding out hope Thibs retires.

imagine asking for a trade, but the more dysfunction with that team the better.

probably change my opinion a few more times but if we keep a first this year, I think the guy I want is Duarte.

He's going to be 24, so he's pretty much a finished product, so I think that product is pretty damn good. Deadly, deadly shooter. Pretty athletic, good at getting steals.

I think he has starting potential, or at least looks like a key rotation guy early, which would be a huge boost with the 19th or 21st pick.
