NFT: Knick Chat

Pete44 : 6/11/2021 10:57 am
It is being reported by Empire Sports Media that the Knicks are one of the teams interested in Pacers C Myles Turner.

This would make some sense as Turner is a rim protector and an offensive threat. The lack of Gibson/Noel being an offensive threat was definitely a detriment in the Hawks series. Of course, the cost could be prohibitive as Indiana is tough to deal with.

Bucks up 11 at the half.

Let’s see if they remember to play two halves tonight. Harden still not pushing it, but is putting up some points.

That should send it to Game 7.

Don’t have much faith in the Bucks winning it, but they’ve won 3.5 of the past 4 games.
90% of New York will pull for the Bucks in Game 7

as amazing as that sounds
Question is will Kyrie play?
Leg of Theismann : 6/17/2021 11:06 pm : link
I have no idea how close he is, does anyone know? That would be amazing if they finally get all 3 together (even if 2/3 of them are hobbled) just for game 7. My guess is he does not play though that sprain looked pretty bad.

I still can’t believe anyone picked the Bucks in this series before it started (I.e. before any of the Big 3 were injured). Nets could very well end up winning this series having had only 1.5 or 2 of their stars on the court for all but 43 seconds of game 1.
Saw a lot more of Giannis at the five tonight.

horrible trade you traded 1 bad contract for another and traded out of the 1st in a deep draft
weird trade...
Italianju : 6/18/2021 9:26 am : link
contracts are pretty close, unless you think Kemba opts out of his last year which right now would sound crazy. Brown showed some flashes, but he needs to eat like 5K calories a day. That said i could see him easily having a better career then whoever goes 16th.

All that said i think Al fits better since BOS has Brown and tatum and really dont need another ball dominant player. Horford can do more to help the team. OVerally dont love it, but i dont think its an awful trade.
I wouldn't
Jon in NYC : 6/18/2021 9:27 am : link
overlook Moses Brown. He has future NBA starter ability. Not having Kemba burden them is addition by subtraction.

I actually like it for the Celtics.
Kemba’s contract was thought to be immovable

and now you moved it, saved $10 million in cap space, and got back a guy you like (even if he’s ancient).

Boston could have gotten a nice young guard to pair with tatum and brown..

you also coukd of waited until the draft
Horford
Enzo : 6/18/2021 9:33 am : link
is only guaranteed about $13 million in 22/23, so there's big financial savings for Boston that year, but it might not add up to big cap savings depending on what else they do between now and then.

Going back two years, I still don't know what Philly was thinking giving Horford that huge deal.

It’s still money you’re not spending on a guy you don’t want on your team anymore. (Also a guy who people didn’t think could be moved.) Now it’s time to move Marcus Smart and Tristan.

Waited for what? Waited for whom?
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/18/2021 9:59 am : link
The team that took on Kemba’s contract with two years left is a franchise that happens to have no goals beyond acquiring all 30 first round picks of a draft and flipped the Celtics a less expensive contract of an old player the Celtics happen to like. Do you think it was going to get better than that before next offseason? I don’t. The Celtics obviously don’t want to keep Kemba around for another year and that’s fine.

but you basically painted yourself into a corner with this trade, you have to resign fournier, you have to trade thompson, you are not resigning smart and you are not adding a young player..

The alternative, if keeping Kemba around isn’t an option, was giving away even more picks or some of the young players on their roster whose value is questionable at the moment.

that is the million dollar question is there something that happened that forced the celtics to trade him now
this may not net the Celtics
Enzo : 6/18/2021 11:09 am : link
any significant cap space over the next 2 seasons. If that's the case, it comes down to which dead money player do you want on your team for 2 years? It could be that Boston knows Kemba's knee is shot and he's about to fall off a cliff. Or maybe Stevens really just wanted Horford back? Trades have been made for dumber reasons.

Noel
manh george : 6/18/2021 1:34 pm : link
He is, of course, no superstar, but it really astonishes me how many sports commentators either forgot or ignored the fact that Noel injured his ankle in the first game of the series, and never made it back close to being healthy. Guys, he wasn't THAT awful, considering that he was hopping on one foot.

General rule: if you want to be considered a sports expert, pretend that you actually know something.
Oh, and Toppin having zero value is an illusion.
manh george : 6/18/2021 1:58 pm : link
He has very little value on the current Knicks, because Randall has to play huge minutes or the team regresses. That could change as soon as next year, of course, if the Kneaks add enough starting talent at the 1 and the 3.
Toppin is no superstar either, but he could provide reasonable value a) on a Knick team not nearly so reliant on Randle playing league-high minutes, or b) on another team substantially lacking at the 4. With Toppin's size, strength, speed, outside shot and leaping ability, he could add value to a a number of teams who are weak at the 4.

Toppin's defensive weaknesses were not nearly as bad as initially thought, and he has offensive capabilities that he can only optimize by playing more. I can easily envision him ending up with a really kickass 10-foot bank shot, for example, along with an interior jump shot, and the ability to move without the ball that most 4's don't have.

Of course, to show all of that, he would have to be traded, or Thibs would have to be convinced that Randall playing 30-32 minutes a game is better for the team over the course of a season. If that happens, Toppin might have considerably more trade value a year out than he has now.

Leg of Theismann : 6/18/2021 3:47 pm : link
18 1st round picks and 17 2nd round picks over the next 6 drafts. Damn. An average of 3 1sts and 3 2nds each over the next 6 years. And people say the Knicks have a bunch of draft picks. You would almost think OKC could build a pretty good team with that kind of capital. We shall see.
Every pick OKC has after the Kemba trade - ( New Window )

Leg of Theismann : 6/18/2021 3:52 pm : link
They say at the beginning of the article “18 1st round licks through 2027.” It’s actually 18 through 2026, and then in 2027 they have 1 1st and 4 2nds. They have the picks listed correctly by year at the bottom of the article though.

Over the next 6 drafts (2021-2026) they have 18 1sts and 17 2nds.
Over the next 7 drafts (2021-2027) they have 19 1sts and 21 2nds.

I think ATL ends this tonight. I don't see the 76ers bouncing back after that epic choke job in Game 5. And if the 76ers do get bounced...man, no chance in hell they're running that back. I'd fully expect Simmons to get moved this summer, though the asking price might be at all time low. Dude, lock yourself in a gym all summer & learn to shoot the fucking ball. It's beyond embarrassing at this point.

This Philly/Atlanta series is just super intriguing to me for some reason. I agree Atlanta definitely smells blood in the water after that embarrassing collapse by the Sixers. But it’s just interesting that it feels like the Sixers have essentially been the better team for 15 or 16 of the 20 quarters in the series and yet they’re down 3-2. I still say they’re the better team with the more favorable matchups. They can erase all of this bad juju of the last 2 games if they just play 4 solid quarters of basketball tonight. It’s gonna be tough to have short memories and every basket Philly scores to take a lead is gonna feel like it could evaporate at any second. That said— pressure is on Atlanta and they’re a super young team and; they need to close this out tonight. Making it to the ECF is suddenly a pretty big deal— are they ready to seize a major opportunity like that? Got my popcorn ready.

Leg of Theismann : 6/18/2021 6:52 pm : link
I fucking hate the Hawks so much. I haven’t hated an NBA team this much like pretty much ever. So that is adding to the intrigue for me as well lol. I never in a million years would’ve thought I’d be rooting this hard for a Philly based sports team (though I never really minded the 76ers anyway tbh). But a villain like the Hawks and the annoying little shit Trae Young are exactly the kind of stuff that makes watching basketball fun.

All that said — I’ll admit I secretly wish that when the Knicks were down in games 3 thru 5 they could’ve played with half the intensity and resolve the Hawks played with in the last two games’ 2nd halves vs. the 6ers. Everyone except Rose and Taj seemed to just have that same sad defeated look on their faces once the Hawks went on one of their little runs in the 2nd or 3rd quarter. I guess the ability to snap out of that shit comes with more playoff experience.
