Very possibly the greatest match of all time. Semi finals in the French open. They’re in the 4th set with the Joker up 2-1. Most unbelievable shots by 2 guys in their mid30s. Every point is contested. It’s on NBC Sports if interested
in like 20 years? Are the “big 3” in men’s tennis the greatest ever or is the talent pipeline dead?
Well, you clearly have the greatest clay court player in history. The greatest hard court player in history. And arguably the greatest grass player in history. So it's pretty a pretty safe bet to say this Big Three is the best ever...
It’s a shame del potro has been mired with injuries. I think he could have really led the 2nd tier and been competitive with the top 3 given his insane firepower with the big serve and forehand. Same for Kyrgios if he wasn’t such a head case.
call it a classic match, and I admittedly did not see any of it, but I'm not sure how a match that didn't go 5 sets and only had 1 set that was close could be considered a classic.
I did DVR it so I will watch it now, but I really dont understand how it can be the "best match ever" when it didn't even go 5 sets.
Both players made great shots and great gets in almost every point,
They replayed both matches. Caught end of the first match and thought they played decent. But the second match wasn’t just better, it was a different realm of quality. Every single point was contested until the last set. Fighting back in the first set was huge IMO. Down 5-0 to Rafa on clay and you invest another four games, he got the confidence he needed. Novak out muscled him, covered just an insane amount of ground, and eventually outlasted him.
Both were top class and this was far and away the match of the tournament.
Loved the crowd reaction to being allowed to stay out past their bedtimes. They went from ready to storm the Bastille to welcoming the Germans pretty quickly there.
RE: It was just on tennis tv or something like that

Yeah, if they'd made them leave, would have been quite a scene.
Only player of the big 3 to win to win the career Grand Slam twice and will be favored to win the Calendar Grand Slam this year which if he does will cement his GOAT status.

Today's win was huge indeed, especially because he took out Nadal along the way...
Getting a 2nd French is massive.
Tsitsipas gave Novak all he could handle a few weeks in Rome on the red stuff. So this could be a very interesting final.
The former, and by a wide margin at this point.

Djokovic got his first serves in and Nadal didn't.
NOBODY wins without getting their first serves in. Apparently, Nadal also had a foot problem and that might also have been a factor.
By substantially, I mean an amount so great that it would be obvious even to a fan who doesn't know as much about the sport as you do.
That's Federer/Nadal at 2008 Wimbledon. Heartbreaking for me as a Federer fanatic but overall a ridiculous match

Yup. This is something.
