Upon receiving a second opinion from an Ohio-based hand surgeon, Brandon Nimmo learned he is not dealing with a nerve issue but actually a small ligament tear near the base of his left index finger. It should heal on its own; Nimmo hopes to restart a rehab assignment next week.

if so, why the second opinion from a hand surgeon in Ohio?

Not sure your point.
Its a billion dollar franchise, honestly with all the calculated analysis with everything that goes on how would they not know.
So yes I think they know about the severity with all injuries but choose not to reveal that information cause it serves no benefit.
Don't you realize by releasing diagnoses and time tables that are constantly wrong, and in reality the ailments are almost always worse than they initially say they look like a massive clown show.
Your opinion they actually know the actual real ailments and severity, rehab plans and duration for time missed, and are legitimately on top of these injuries, but intentionally release incorrect or misleading information on purpose because the truth serves no purpose is a really strange take.

you seem pretty agitated over this, honestly its my opinion and I don't think its strange to think the public release of information is always accurate to the media.
I work for a company that serves Twitter as a client, we always need to frame/tailor passed down information for certain reasons.
its part of damage control protocol.
You don't need to agree, just putting a different angle out there instead of the same old "Mets doctors are dysfunctional" narrative
He looks great out there but hadn’t heard of him before.
1st rounder in 2013 with Oakland. Played for a number of teams. Cubs, Yankees, Brewers (where he was traded to Mets). Was in Gleyber Torres trade for Chapman

he is still only 26. Played about a full season worth of ABs. 25 HR 28 doubles.
Huge find for the Mets. They need the OF help. All of a sudden the OF depth does not look as bas with Fargas and McKinney to go along with Smith, Nimmo, Conforto, and Pillar
And Peraza was last out. It was right there. Loup is dicey.
If there is a health issue for Lugo in terms of no multiple innings yet, ok. I can see them not wanting to have the arm stiffen between innings. Always gonna baby that partial UCL tear.

Nah, your take is a weird one. So, your opinion is that the Mets know the “real” situation and diagnosis all along, disseminate different information control the narrative, only to eventually release the accurate information that will make the look like a clown show anyway?
That’s a bit hard to imagine. The much more believable reason is that their doctors misdiagnosed the issue, forcing them to get a second opinion and finally diagnose the injury correctly. Much like we’ve seen many times with this team...hence the “Mets doctors are dysfunctional” complaint, and rightly so.
But super nice to hear about your irrelevant Twitter connection. You’ve really nailed down that “contrarian Mets fan” role. Good for you, champ.

Who was a ortho surgeon for a team. He said if it’s actually that it’s really not a big deal but they likely are worried about ucl and they would put that out to calm people down In interim. This presser makes me feel better.
Originally went on the DL with back soreness. It was reported by Toscano that he was progressing faster than expected and would be ready May 29 when he was due to come off the DL
However, he has a long history of back problems so I think Mets are just being cautious by push g his return to after the Break.

Once the pen got healthy Hunter moved down to like 11th or 12th on the pecking order. As it is we have a 9 man pen and Reid Foley, who was lights out in the majors and in AAA, is in Syracuse. Y Diaz is also on the 40 and has pitched well. Vizcaino and Nogosef are also options in AAA.
There just is no room for Hunter. So rather than DFA him, we moved him to the 60 day IL to clear up a spot that way.

Already been a long time but this pushes back return to a best case scenario of August.
You know, I wonder if Cookie’s got some lingering impact from his cancer treatment that makes body repair for soft tissue move a bit slower. Hopefully the PRP helps. I would absolutely sign up for early August here.
No one in the world threw more than what, 80-90 innings last year (including playoffs, I’m sure most Mets were 60 innings or lower). Every team is going to be moving people in and out, resting, skipping starts.
Getting Carrasco and Thor back at some point in the second half would be a huge boost.
I think he's literally pushing the boundaries of what the human body is capable of and it's taking its toll.

For "fun" I just ran some numbers and put Jakes worst 20 starts of the last 3 years on top of his 10 starts this year... And if he was that terrible (about a 5 ERA)..he'd still finish the year at around 3.20 with a 1 WHIP...
That just puts it in some perspective how amazing he's been
