if they had kept Golden Tate.'
I was listening to "Moving The Chains" this evening. I didn't catch who the hosts were. I've heard the voices before. One I believe is a former GM.
Anyway, I caught the tail end of the segment, when one of the hosts said something positive about signing Golladay and drafting Toney, but ended up with the wacky (IMHO) comment about Golden Tate.
The Giants have made some significant improvements at WR via the additions in free agency and the draft and the subtraction of Tate.
While Tate made a few nice catches and had a few TDs from what I recall, personally, I'm very glad he's no longer a Giant.
He served a purpose, was overpaid, and well we upgraded.
Only explanation.
I think he’s wrong, but it is an opinion.
So are the Giants a top 10?
But think about it, the "potential" is there based on past performance and upside of youth to see:
Galloday - 75-1150-8
Barkley 75-700-4
Shepard 70-800-5
Slayton 69-900-7
Engram 60-725-4
Toney 35-500-4
Now, will these kind of numbers be put up? Likely not as you are saying here that everyone stays healthy and produces as the ball is spread around. But the "potential" is there to have a solid passing offense IF the young guys develop.
If Galloday, Slayton, Shepard, Barkley come out of the gates healthy and in sync with Jones and the playbook, I think this offense can produce at a Top 10 level right out of the gates.
This assumes the young OL which got a lot of snaps last year comes together in a full, real camp of coaching in the same system. That is a big question mark as Lemiuex's pass protection is suspect and Peart has never been a starting RT in this league so I anticipate growing pains.
My gut says Barkley returns to form; Galloday keeps safeties honest; Slayton develops; Engram has his best season; Jones proves he is a true #1; the coaches coach up very well; and, we get off to a good start with wins over Denver at home and then a short road trip to Washington. A good start is key as we were 0 - 4 with a brutal schedule last year.
Next year, with Chicago's #1 pick which I believe will be Top 5 - 12 range, perhaps we can draft the "missing link" to bring the offense together and make a true SB run.
Note: these WR's are practicing against a very, very good secondary and that always helps.
We have speed but will they exploit defenses?? I think Jones will do that and more!
So your gut tells you that everything positive that CAN happen, will HAPPEN?
Not sure you can trust your gut if that's what it's telling you.
Can he still be a productive back. Sure, but a "touched by the hand of God" guy, Nope!

I’m feeling the same way.
The Giants signed Golladay to be Jones' primary target. They still have Slayton, who went through a rough patch last year, but who's hardly a bum. Shepard's contract pretty much guarantees that he'll be on the team this year. I never was a big fan of his, but he's got good hands and is a very viable third option in the passing game, like Mario Manningham was. And then there's Toney, who can line up just about anywhere and burn a defense in a variety of ways.
After that the Giants have a bunch of guys who'll be fighting for the remaining two (probable) spots on the roster. No doubt special teams will be a big factor in determining who stays and who goes. Overall, I'd say the Giants have the makings of a damned good corps of WR's if they can keep them all relatively healthy.
He does not play gunner or on the kick team. He's not dangerous as a return man
So if he can't do those, what use is he?
There was some non-Giant fans on other boards acting like Tate was being held back by Jones last year. Funnily enough, his one game suspension that Mack started, Mack had more yards than Tate did in any single game last year. He's toast.

Or if PFF is right, even though they have a good WR core, they still have the Giants projected to win 7 games and a power ranking of 26.
