NFT: A Quiet Place II (no spoilers)

Bricktop : 6/12/2021 7:01 pm
Went to the movies today for the first time in over two years. Me and my daughter (her first scary movie) had a great afternoon together. And the movie was really good.

That said, there are many moments of complete silence which really highlights how foul and nasty people are. One guy let out a huge fart. Another guy sitting three seats away from me was mouthbreathing, burping, spilling shit all over the place, chewing like a mental patient and talking all loud. People have either lost some social graces due to Covid or we've always been nasty fucks.

My suggestion is see the movie for sure, but order it at home. Not worth the $60 I spent to listen to farts, burps and heavy breathing. I can listen to my own bodily noises at home.
How crowded was the theater?

I was actually lucky enough to go to the premier of the 1st one at Lincoln Center. John Krazinsky & Emily Blunt spoke before the film... Even there you had bozos having their phones go off, chewing loudly etc. People suck
I disagree

That is a movie that deserves to be seen in theaters. I’m sorry you had a bad experience but that’s not a reason for others to not see this movie how it was meant to be seen. The movie was flat out great, on par or better than the first one. I’ve seen it in theaters twice already and I’m probably gonna see it again in theaters.
There were only like 20 people there - if that

And I agree, it's great in the theater. If you go, do it off-peak. Fandango has seat maps showing how many people have bought tickets.

I have a great surround sound system and media set up in my house. I'm going to order it here and see how it plays. Really good movie.

Agreed. I need to see in theaters, the first one was fantastic and watching at home for the first time wouldnt have done it justice.

People suck, but it’s always been that way with movies. Typically it won’t ruin it for me.
I'm not saying it ruined

the movie. It was just a weird experience with the silence. The fart was a couple seats away from my daughter. She was mortified. Haha.
I've seen this and Cruella in back to back weeks in Cinemark
PatersonPlank : 6/12/2021 10:01 pm : link
The theater was filled. They were making sure that there was an empty seat between each "family".

Quiet Place 2 was excellent, Cruella was very good. A great start to the "go to the movie" season
My daughter saw the premier in Houston.

John Krasinski showed up at the theater there too, thanking the patrons for coming back out to the movies. Very cool move.

And the movie was very entertaining. Didn’t see the first one, but it wasn’t a prerequisite for enjoying the second one. It was great.
People ARE nasty fucks

From my perspective, as an old fart (pun intended) nearing 60, it seems the coarsening of our society has been a gradual trend since the 80s. Some observers have written that MTV and shock (then political talk) radio are contributing factors. I don't know, but undeniably, what we used to consider good manners and social graces have eroded to the point that I don't expect them in public. I do think lockdown has exacerbated it some but in general, I think a lot more people have become uninhibited and thoughtless in our country.
Call it the slobinization of America?

I just don't get the praise these movies receive. They're beautifully shot and edited, sure. Especially the sound editing (and how often do you talk about sound editing or even notice it?). Performances are great as well. I understand those things getting praise.

But my god, they are full of stupid people doing even stupider things. I won't give away spoilers but just think about the plot of this idiotic movie for half a second and it falls apart, especially the end. It's like seeing the most dropdead gorgeous woman you've ever seen in your life, but then she opens her mouth to reveal horse teeth, the voice of Rosanne Barr, and a sub 60 IQ. Awful.
That’s like complaining about the walking dead

not figuring out how to just stay in the prison. This is inherent to the genre, you either are ok with liberties taken with common sense or you aren’t. I can point to some in Jaws, they exist everywhere to varying degrees.

Sure, I get that. Truly. But then again, most horror/suspense movies aren't praised as being intelligent like the Quiet Place movies have been. They're full of people who wouldn't last 4 days, no less 470-whatever. It just bugs me.
To each his own

And opinions are well received. I thought it was extremely entertaining and my daughter really enjoyed it. She wants to watch the first one too. Some of you guys know my situation as a result of Covid, so to spend a couple hours in a theater with her was really cool. We talked about it at dinner tonight too. Only 10 and her observations are priceless.

The 1st was one of my favorite movies of 2018 and one of the best in the genre overall. I really didn't like Krasinski much as an actor but he excels as a director. He paid homage to Jaws in this and overall i'm really digging these comedic actors turned Thriller/Horror filmmakers (Jordan Peele, even Danny McBride whom a typically can't stand).

Trying to find a night to get to see this, its towards the top of my list of must see movies of 2021.
I enjoyed it

Cillian Murphy is one of those guys that I wish was in more movies. I liked the first scene in the movie, that was cool to see since we didn't see it in the first movie. The kids were also great in this, really impressed by both of those young actors.

I didn't like the way they used Djimon Honsou, who's another guy like Murphy that I'm a fan of. I also didn't like a couple of aspects of this movie from a plot standpoint.

Overall, I thought it was still a really good sequel but I didn't like it as much as the first. Still excited to see the 3rd movie if/when it comes out.
