NFT: Ford Bronco new

Debaser : 6/13/2021 8:51 am
Anyone else see one of these? I have to admit I was excited and expecting a modern version of the old one instead they took the lame , immature/ juvenile jeep renegade and put "bronco" on the grille and called it a day. I had new respect ford after having an explorer for like 14 years which finally died after running like a tank but idk any more....keeping the bimmer looks like the move
I had a 94 or 95 Bronco as my first car. It was one of the last years.
robbieballs2003 : 6/13/2021 9:09 am : link
It wasn't an earlier model but it was awesome. I took the top off and had the soft top. That thing was a beast.

I agree. The new ones aren't appealing to me.
So it’s a Ford bronco or keeping your current car
Tuckrule : 6/13/2021 9:10 am : link
Very odd thread. A beautiful car is the new Land Rover defender. That one looks very nice.
I loved the old Broncos...
Johnny5 : 6/13/2021 9:42 am : link
... so I was excited to see the new ones. I feel the same as you, they missed the mark IMO.
Those are not the only options
Debaser : 6/13/2021 9:45 am : link
I was also thinking of getting a lexus mini suv used. But I think I am just keeping my car. Switching cars is expensive especially since I got such a good deal on mine .. they are expensive to repair however. Land rover is the last suv I would buy ; you pay a lot but you don't get a lot.
Any one I have seen in person has looked really plain
BlueHurricane : 6/13/2021 9:49 am : link
But I have seen pictures of some optioned out that look really sweet. Just havent seen one like that on the road yet.
Like this pic is pretty sweet
BlueHurricane : 6/13/2021 9:51 am : link
I had a 1983 full size bronco...
EricJ : 6/13/2021 9:59 am : link
with a stick shift... no way I would get this new "thing" they are calling a bronco
Unless it’s the suped up ones
UConn4523 : 6/13/2021 10:05 am : link
they look like kids toys.
Seriously
Debaser : 6/13/2021 10:08 am : link
WHy are they calling it bronco? Call it Ford Hipster or something.

Although my understanding is that is was supposed to be like the way they were in the 60s-70s. I wanted a big suv; 2 door ; like the ones i saw in the 80s / 90s and still see some on the road today.
My baby is a ‘73
mako J : 6/13/2021 10:16 am : link
80’s era Giants blue with a matching hardtop. Cut rear fenders on 33s. All original interior.

Used to be my bar hopper at the beach...now we just take the kids for ice cream!

I agree the new ones I’ve seen on the road are weak but it looks like there are upgraded versions that are tougher.

I have a sport. I would have to argue greatly with that comment. A car is a luxury it’s all about price range and what you want out of it. To say “you don’t get a lot” is all relevant to the buyer.
I thought it would be cool when announced.
Beezer : 6/13/2021 10:25 am : link
Now that I’ve seen them out in public, the handful I’ve driven past or walked by in parking lots are base models or close, and really weak/boring AF.

I’d imagine if you’d pay out the ads for all the biggest upgrades you’d have a fun vehicle. Otherwise blah.

Looks nice. Got to be at least 80k for that version.
My daughter was in love with it until I took her to ...

a dealership to give it a close inspection and test drive. Her reaction:
Meh.
Yes, they are based on the 1970 model, not the 80s.
D-Rod : 6/13/2021 10:40 am : link
Also, similar to the Wrangler, the mods push the price up quickly.

I think the bigger version is still to come.

I had to go along to help my girlfriends mom buy a car. She chose the bronco sport for some reason. Neither version made sense for her (she owns a cx5), but the Sport is not based on the ford ranger platform like the normal bronco. It felt like the cx5 when I drove it. I did like the normal bronco, but cant say I had any experience with the original line back in the day.
Not a fan
Mark from Jersey : 6/13/2021 11:43 am : link
and I am a Ford guy. F-150, Mustang, Edge.

For those who watched Mare of Easttown the Bronco the one kid drove was sweet.

Interesting note, a guy in NJ has a White Bronco - License plate number is NOT OJ. LMAO. Seen it on Reddit a few times.
They're tiny....
Ryan : 6/13/2021 12:05 pm : link
Same kind of hand job that Jeep did bringing back the Cherokee.
If they were being historically accurate...
Ryan : 6/13/2021 12:07 pm : link
...they should have called it the Bronco II which is what it more closely resembles.
Bronco 2
Debaser : 6/13/2021 12:13 pm : link
I thought looked like a coool little truck and wanted one forever but they were too old even for back then when I wanted it. These things resemble the totally ga-hey mini compact suv's you see on the road from Asia. They are like cars except are made to look kind of like SUVs. It is like if you don't care for the extra space and a truck frame buy a fucking car and be done with it.

The Bronco Sport is based on the Ford Escape, not meant for serious off-roading.

I don’t agree, people don’t want cars because they feel more cramped and are too low to the ground. Few have AWD or it’s a premium feature to add it. Compact SUVs are great for their intended purpose.

And what purpose is that?
I would expect to see awd station wagons

Pretty good history from C&D…
trueblueinpw : 6/13/2021 2:19 pm : link
Link below.

I like the original style of the early Broncos. The restyle was too much like the Blazer. So I like the new ones, especially the 4 door full size.

Man, the Bronco II? Never understood how that got to market and especially with that name.
Forgot the C&D link…

Already listed in the post you replied to. People don’t want to drive low in cars anymore and AWD is pretty much standard on all SUV classes. Why does it bother you?
Hmmm
Debaser : 6/13/2021 2:35 pm : link
So people just magically decided they don’t want to be bothered with difficult 4wd controls ; the tougher ride of a truck frame ; the difficulty of getting in and out of one ; no tow capacity ; smaller room for cargo I once moved a studio apt in a Ford Explorer) all so they can pay extra money for something which I’m sure a car —which is much cheaper —even with the awd option... right could they have just drank th the cool aid from the mist clever people in America marketers. ? Why no vans mini or wagon?
...if everyone collectively decided this ?

like some kid with a Tonka truck designed it. Then again, I also can't stand most of the new jeeps either. The 2021 Ford Rangers aren't bad looking. At least they got that right.
People “magically” gravitated to a better option

the industry has evolved, no one cares about the new civic. What’s so hard to grasp here? Again, why do you care?
Lots of plastic in the front of the new bronco

NINEster : 6/13/2021 7:59 pm : link
because this new Bronco is definitely a throwback to when they were short wheelbase off roaders.

The OJ Bronco was pretty competent off road but was more down the SUV trend that started around that time.

If you don't like the new Bronco you won't like/didn't like the Land Rover Defenders.

Oddly, the Mercedes Benz G-Wagen originally was just like these two others, but somehow managed to become chic where these others failed. In some ways the G-Wagen is the coolest thing MB sells (by sales #s and social media pull) which is kinda nauseating.

My only beef with the new Bronco is lack of a big engine in it. Otherwise it's fine.

Really dig the multiple versions and transmission options, which you don't see that much anymore.

I don’t now know they’re sally soccer mom and ghey. And maybe I watched too much tucker Carlson and don’t like pomposity and group think. They also made it impossible to get a real truck any more even a little bronco 2 built on a ranger frame and came only in 4x4 for years.

Instead you take a compact car ; raise it up; chop the trunk off and call that an suv?

It’s not roomier. My car a sport coupes— bmw 335 —is longer and has more storage space in the trunk with fold down seats. You also act like they throw in awd for free. You’re paying considerably more this type of vehicle.

About the new broncos. The advertised ones they show are like considerably more than the 30k claimed base price kikevthe pictures one above could be 55k !

Also the sport is basically a Ford Escape ....lame!

The bronco or the bronco Sport? The sport came out first, based on the escape platform. Most think it's the bronco, it's NOT!!

4-door Bronco. Initially towed my racecar with a lawn trailer and a 302 '89 Bronco, and have been a fan ever since. No way, however, would I invest in the first production run, though I would consider finding an ugly duckling on the lot (wishful thinking) in the future and leasing it to make sure it met expectations.
Too small.

I was excited when I saw the initial artwork for the new Bronco, but to me, this is a miss. As others have said, a glorified Jeep.

I was going to buy an F150 this year but chronic issues with their engines pushed me into RAM country - went with a new 2500 to pull my camper. Great truck.
