McKinney, small sample size on offense, is clearly the better defensive outfielder....Would the Mets think Pillar/McKinney platoon, Dom the odd man out? And, does Almora have a spot at all?
Also, Villar is so much better than J.D. Davis in the field. If and when Davis comes back, do you really bench Villar?
Good problems to have if, big if, these guys come back.

I do not bench Villar for Davis. He’s been great and having a 3B who can make routine throws without incident is huge for this team.
Dom hasn’t found it this year. I’m not sure what to make of him right now.
Luchesi has a knack of getting the DP ball lately. And, as always, infield positioning is on point.
Hopefully the bats awaken and give us some runs today.
is settling in pretty well. Good to see. He hasn’t been bad lately, just not particularly efficient. I’ll sign up for him keeping us in games for 5ip or so. Should work out ok overall with this bullpen and bats (at least theoretically as far as the offense goes)

Yeah probably pinch hit for him next time he is up if he makes it that far.

Yep, definitely one you gratefully take 5 from and yank. But a good five is perfectly acceptable from a 5th starter. Definitely would be just fine if Peterson figures his shit out. If Carrasco or Thor were ready, gotta keep Luchesi and let Peterson find himself in AAA.
already down 4-0 vs the Phillies. Was hoping the Mets could pick some ground up on the Phillies with a series win, but looking like they will need the sweep to do so
There was a stat a few weeks ago that Pete sees fewer strikes than all but five batters in MLB
Pitchers do t have to throw him strikes because he chases. This problem seems to get worse after he hits a few homers. It’s like he is trying
To
Hit every pitch over the fences
strike call. If that pitch is correctly called a strike, maybe he throws a different pitch after and no grand slam. Shows you how one blown strike call by the umpire can change the game. I really look forward to the day we start using an electronic strike one.
And I don’t begrudge umpires for the calls they miss - it must be incredibly hard to call balls and strikes, especially the close ones. But in the day and age, it’s just unnecessary.
That being said - I hate the umpires that have “their own” strike zone as if it’s an actual choice to change the rules.
RE: The reality is that Rojas should have pulled Familia much sooner.
apparently hot for Matt McLain at 10 in the upcoming draft.
The college arms have definitely hit a wall so I can understand McLain being a target if they want a little “safer” pick in Round 1
Mets apparently had a "very large" group on hand to see McLain. They would almost certainly begin his career at SS and move him as he reached the upper minors.

I saw that, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mets having that sort of group for a number of possibilities at 10 as it is a pretty wide open draft at that point.
Ronny Mauricio struggling recently. OPS is down to .709 (hitting .159 over his last 12 games). I suspect he remains in BK for the majority of the season
Not only did Bartolo Colon throw a CG shut out this weekend, but he also is tied for the Mexican league lead in wins (3) and leads league in innings (30) #Mets

The Mets' outfield should soon be fully healthy. Michael Conforto has aired it out in baserunning drills for three straight days. He and Brandon Nimmo could both be days away from rehab assignments.
Backup Albert Almora is also continuing his rehab with Syracuse. He's close.

Tea leaves are surely headed toward McKinney taking Almora's role once Conforto/Nimmo are back. "Comfortable with McKinney seeing some time in CF".
Hated the "concept" of dealing for Stroman just to let Wheeler walk but Marquez and his +3 years of control would be an excellent addition knowing the Mets only have JdG/Carrasco/Walker signed through next season...I'd give up Mauricio as a headliner for Marquez.
love to see Dom get getting. He may be in danger of losing PT if everybody gets healthy as well. He DID get robbed by Hosmer this weekend. His struggles have really surprised me. For his sake, he's been kind of lucky they have mostly gone unnoticed.

has pitched more than 2 innings only twice this season (9 appearances including the minors) so there isn't any indication they are even considering stretching him out to start at this point.
Really want Pete to take this guy yard.

Paddack lives in Alonso’s dome. Hope he gets it together this AB and just moves Lindor over at least.

Very nice outing (assuming he is done)
maris and Mantle
Williams and Peraza
Great offensive duos in history.
Maybe Rojas is looking for two from Familia? Who closes today if it comes to that? May? It’s going to be interesting (hopefully)
Good move to take Joey out. He did his job
Lugo definitely not available I’d think. Yesterday was his first b2b this year. Diaz has 8 outs last two days, so he might be a maybe.
So, Fam, Gsellman, maybe Loup (pitches last two days) and May are the close game BP I’d guess.
Lindor is a nice calming voice to pitchers, it seems.
couple more runs would be great. Gotta get a second inning from Familia here.
Kinda wish he’d hooked him after the profar walk.
Bad way to lose this lead. Hope Barnes can get this out.
Familia walks three in the inning and walks in the tying run. Now someone needs to clean his mess.
Yup. Just no room for it today with the short bullpen. Ahhh well, gotta just get ready for the Cubs and take the series win
I enjoy watching Tatis play, but that move he does on his trot is something I don’t love seeing against the Mets.

Maybe. But I actually would have let him face Tatis. The message being you created this mess, now get out of it.
Barnes had a few nice outings but he really is not that good. If you pull Famolia, go to May or Lugo or Castro

Well, I guess he couldn’t have done any worse than Barnes lol.
With a Joey L start and a thin pen, need more than 3 runs to win.
Nice series win vs pads. Keep it going vs a really hot chi Cubs team.

Struck out two and walked one. #Mets

now has Francisco Alvarez as the #29 prospect in baseball, Mauricio comes in at #45, Baty #121

I forgot Almora has an option left so he'll just be demoted. But he'd be the 6th OF and can't hit so he's a waste of a roster spot.
Dom, Pillar, McKinney, Nimmo, Conforto... even Williams/Fargas.. Almora has close to zero value with McKinney now here.
Get going.
he's being added to the bullpen.
Mcneil should take some pt from Smith in LF
