NFT: Isles-Lightning Game 2

truebluelarry : 6/15/2021 2:42 pm
Are the Islanders capable of bringing the series back to Nassau with a 2-0 lead?
I expect a bigtime pushback from Tampa Bay tonight. I think it will be all about weathering the storm in the first period.
I have my Rock the Barn Towel ready to wave here in my LR
GiantBlue : 6/15/2021 2:47 pm : link
Tampa is going to come out flying I figure....We may see a whole new team rather than Sunday's Lightning that seemed a bit over-confident, a bit flat, a bit unmotivated.

However, this team seems different from last year's team. It seems like our four lines may have some impact over them while last year they seemed to have answers.

If the Isles get out of there 2-0....I will be thinking 2007 Giants for sure.....okay...maybe 2011 Giants! LOL!

LGFI!!!!!
We’re all expecting a better effort from Tampa tonight
Metnut : 6/15/2021 2:50 pm : link
but Isles have a great opportunity to steal another one. Stay out of the box. Isles were the better 5v5 team for game 1. Isles can win this if Varly stands tall and our forecheck keeps pressuring Tampa into costly giveaways.
Smother them again
BlueHurricane : 6/15/2021 2:51 pm : link
And this very easily can be 2-0 headed to the Barn.

The last two games the Isles have played they put defense on display that is capable of winning the cup. Have to keep it up.

maybe tampa plays better but im sick of listening to how they are gonna come out flying. How do you not come out in game 1? Is the Library in Tampa going to allow cheering all of a sudden? weathering the storm on the road usually has the crowd amping the players up to an eve higher level, so I'll believe it when I see it. What if the Isles are just the better team? Tampa has played all out offensive hockey all year while the isles played playoff type hockey vs east teams all year. The Isles just might be better prepared. We'll see
I think this game is going to be the lynchpin where the series goes
Zeke's Alibi : 6/15/2021 3:34 pm : link
Lopsided loss? Tampa in 6. Play it tight or outright win? Gotta like the Isles chances. The Lightning had so much more noise locally last year than this year. Nobody is really even talking about them, just shows you the NFL is king.

I was reading something local and apparently the film session was really telling. Find out tonight if it’s something tactically or it’s the Isles series.

It's not rocket science, if you go east-west the isles are going to flip you and get odd mans the other way. Tampa has to make the high ‰ play and put the puck into areas sometimes. They can play any style so I don't think it will be a huge adjustment.

Varly stopped half a dozen grade A chances. Happy with the win but I didn't see a dominant performance like some fans and media. Varlamov was the difference.

They looked great the other night.

If you have any other suggestions, I'd be more than happy to hear them.
Not a fan of either team
ShockNRoll : 6/15/2021 4:38 pm : link
But I expect the Lightning to win tonight. They looked totally out of sync Sunday. That was a very uncharacteristic game from them Pulock goal is not one I would expect to see Vasilevskiy allow again. The question is, were the Lightning out of sync by their own effort, or not having played in 5 days, or did the Islanders have more to do with it than some may think. I think it’s somewhere in between, but expect to see more of a resemblance of the Lightning team we saw last postseason tonight. Lightning have been here before, they had a similar poor showing in game 1 against Dallas last season then won the next 3. Different situation with fans again, so I wouldn’t expect them to sweep at the coliseum, but I expect this series to go back to NY tied, and then back to Tampa 2-2 for game 5.
Pulling for the Isles here…
trueblueinpw : 6/15/2021 5:20 pm : link
Two of my best friends from school, one is a die Isles fan and the other is a die Habs fan. I’d love to see Isles v. Habs in the finals. As a Ranger fan I’d be pulling for Montreal.
As a Ranger fan will you be rooting for Vegas if Montreal loses?

Tbh, I wouldn’t mind if the Isles won the Cup. I live on the Island, and Isles fans are obnoxious about the Rangers but they’re actually pretty good hockey fans. I’d never admit it to my friends, but, if the Isles won I’d be happy for them.

dont wanna jinx it but I was much more scared of Boston. Tampas getting their attempts and varly made an insane save early but its nothing overwhelming imo
I dont know but if either of these teams goon it up with Vegas
gtt350 : 6/15/2021 8:56 pm : link
they will get their ass handed to them. The whole Vegas team averages 6"4" 220

No kidding. Clearly 6 men on for that goal
Tampa has played better tonight but Isles are right there

with a shot to steal this with a strong third.
Time out?

Two goal lead, third period, going on the PP?
Hopefully Pageau is ok
Metnut : 6/15/2021 10:54 pm : link
Would be a tall order for this time to somehow win a cup without Lee and Pageau (2 of their best 4 forwards IMO).

I imagine if JGP is out next game, Zajac moves to C and has Palmieri and Wahlstrom on his wings.

Hope he's not out though, would be a big loss
Disappointing game for the Isles
Mike from Ohio : 6/15/2021 11:20 pm : link
and the NHL. Playoff game at home for the Stanley Cup Champions in front of a crowd of what sounds like 400 people. One goal for the Islanders on a power play that should not have been, and one goal for Tampa with too many men on the ice. At least the horrible officiating evened out and didn’t distract the fans from their crossword puzzles.

Very flat effort from the Isles. Pelech was awful, and the puck management from game one was gone. Down 2 goals with the extra skater on and the Isles played four corners and waited for the game to end. This was the antithesis of high stakes playoff hockey. It seemed like both team had pre-determined Tampa should win this one and then just skated around until that happened.

Good night for Tampa fans. Bad night for Isles fans. Bad night for neutral fans just hoping to see some intensity and high caliber hockey. This game had all the skill and pace of preseason.

Need to shake this one off and get back to the Island and play Islander hockey. Should be the last game in Travis Zajac’s Islander career as Wally looks ready.

LGI!!!

As a neutral observer I loved the game

old time hockey ,3 fights going on at once, punching over the ref, running into the goalie. Great stuff
Eddie Shore!
I missed some of the

third period, but I didn't see anything that Gillies-Nystrom-Howatt would have called a good hockey fight. I'm afraid the advent of helmets/facemasks really diluted that side of the game, for better or worse.

As to your comment about the fans....... Tampa fans are half assed garbage front runners in all sports Bucs, Bolts and Rays fans all suck. Can't wait to show Tampa what a real arena sounds like tomorrow.

Agree to disagree, but I didn't see a good fight last night. I saw Martin and Maroon hold onto each other for a while before they both let go. I saw a bunch of face washes after the play ended. It seemed like everyone was worried about not looking tough, not playing tough.

Tampa got back to their game somewhat. The Islanders got away from theirs. Hopefully they get it settled down for Thursday.
