NFT: Nets just won the championship

GMEN46 : 6/15/2021 11:09 pm
How do the bucks blow this game. I’ll give credit where credit is due, Kevin Durant is an incredible player and he carried them tonight. But the bucks basically had the series if they win tonight and they blew it. Nets will sweep the eastern conference finals to make the finals. No teams in the west except maybe the Clippers have a chance against the nets and I don’t think it’s much of a chance. Is there a more unlikeable team in sports then the nets right now.

What a waste of a championship team, I know it’s annoying to repeat there are literally 100 nets fans in the world and they are going to win a championship that no one cares about it. I’m assuming the parade would be in Brooklyn not Manhattan?

if the Nets win the championship, I hope the parade is just an endless loop around MSG just to stick it to Dolan.

It absolutely feels that way, but they have two games to change the narrative against a Nets team that will be running on fumes. Now or never for them - right now they are the healthiest team remaining in the entire playoff bracket.

NBA relevancy will continue to wane here in the US. Which is why LeBron takes his orders form His Chinese handlers. More people cared about Mayweather fighting Paul even though it wasn't even a fight Thant meant anything to anyone really.

Shitty product in both the regular season and playoff not much better. Nets winning will not grow their fan base appreciably.
When a guy like LeBron, Durant, or Kawhi

Goes to a new team they will always be criticized for "taking the easiest way possible" whenever that team has another very good player on it. But the team that acquires a player of that caliber always becomes a favorite because they just got a guy like LeBron, Durant, or Kawhi!

Yea for sure, this isn’t “technically” over for the Bucks. They are still in a decent position. But that’s the kind of loss that hurts so much that you feel like they can’t recover. I would be surprised if they won this series.

I don't know how anyone could not respect the game KD played yesterday
Eric on Li : 6/16/2021 12:21 pm : link
of course I can understand disappointment for anyone rooting for Milwaukee or just rooting against the Nets in general, but yesterday's performance was a combo of Lebron and MJ. I guess each of those guys had their bitter curmudgeonly haters as well but as a sports fan I could never not respect truly otherworldly performances.

you can hate his decision to go to GS, you can hate his decision to form a super team with the Nets, you can hate the NBA or how the game has changed. But there was no super team around him yesterday, there likely won't be for the rest of the postseason either, and the last few games have been as evenly matched and physical as any game in the 90's. That was as close of a glimpse of what everyone likes to wax poetic about as "peak NBA" as we've seen in a while, so if that's causing you outrage perhaps it's not the NBA that has changed...

Guys who are doubting that
GMEN46 : 6/16/2021 1:17 pm : link
The nets are going to easily win the championship, let’s hear who is beating them.

Philly without healthy embiid, no chance
Hawks no chance.

There you go easy way to the finals

Western conference, if kawhi doesn’t come back for this series then jazz win easily.

Jazz and Suns have absolutely no chance of beating the nets. They both match up terribly.

Let me add
GMEN46 : 6/16/2021 1:19 pm : link
Nothing would make me happier then seeing Kyrie, harden and KD have to handle a whole offseason getting criticized about how they failed at getting done what should have been an easy championship, but I just don’t see anyway they can lose.
There’s plenty of NETs fans!
Simms11 : 6/16/2021 2:04 pm : link
This is coming from a Knicks fan, I’m sure. Why can’t the NETs and their fans enjoy a Championship for once? Why such vitriol? Sean Marks has done a tremendous job putting this team together and deserves all the credit. The NBA is a league where you have to have a few stars on your team in order to even compete and it’s been a long time for the NETs. Would you say the same about the Heat Team of LeBron, Wade an Bosh? Or the Lakers as currently constituted, and there’s plenty of other examples. There’s plenty of ways to build a contender and the NETs went about it a different way. They might not get to a Championship anyway, there’s some tough sledding still ahead and must get through the Bucks first! This thread just smells of jealousy.

It was an epic effort. The efficiency was phenomenal in terms of shots taken to get to 49 points.

With LBJ gone, I'm rooting for anyone-but-the-Nets because of Irving and Harden. But Durant is clearly on a legacy building mission.

Bucs did blow it. And a lot of it falls on strategy and adjustments under Budenholzer. He's on very thin ice right now...

You keep talking about the Nets as if they're 100 percent healthy. We all agree they're unbeatable under those circumstances. Kyrie is out indefinitely and Harden can't move - they needed a legendary 48-minute performance from KD just to get a 3-2 lead in the second round. The current series is still very much up for grabs, even though you declared it over last night.

Yeah this says it all. Their health is very much in question and its insanely unrealistic to imagine Durant being able to carry a load and efficiency like last night for another 9 wins.

Had nothing to do with it. Let’s not give credit to him for that, you want to give him credit for Harden, but I think any gm can say I will give every draft pick available and my 2 best young players on good contracts for harden. Not a difficult trade to put together.

Additionally yes I hate what Lebron did by starting this whole thing with the heat. Nothing made me happier then seeing them lose in year 1. I hated it again after he went to the Lakers and ad forced his way there. I don’t like Lebron either and he doesn’t even belong in the same sentence as michael jordan. I think KD is a better all around player than Lebron. I never have fear when Lebron has the ball at the end of the game, he isn’t a great shooter outside the paint, but KD gives you that same nauseating feeling as MJ did. Th advantage that Lebron has over KD is he has for the most part stayed healthy and played for a longer time, let’s see how KD stacks up 5 years from now if he stays healthy. He almost certainly will have 2 more rings, this year and most likely next year. Not sure if the nets can keep this team together after that. One thing I can tell you is sean marks will have no say in it, KD and Kyrie will make those decisions.

hate to rain on your sunshine but im pretty sure you are misreading how either scenario plays out.

1. The Nets just needed KD to play 48 minutes and Jeff Green to go 7/8 from 3 to barely win 1 home game. They had a tighter rotation than Hickory. You think that's guaranteed to be sustainable for 9 more wins? Harden looked unable to go above a 5 on a treadmill. Kyrie is on crutches and in a walking boot.

2. If the Nets don't win I find it hard to believe Kyrie Irving will get shit for Giannis undercutting him and his ankle bending 90 degrees the wrong way. Or James Harden for suffering (and pretty valiantly attempting to play through) basically his first injury of the decade. Or KD for not being able to win a championship with Jeff Green and Blake Griffin on their minimum contracts as his main sidekicks.

all you have to do is check the vegas odds - the injuries have removed a lot of the expectation and possibly actually given each of the big 3 the chance to earn respect/praise they wouldn't have even if they rolled through an undefeated postseason fully healthy. Last night KD showed a lot of people he can carry a team to victory the way Lebron did. Meanwhile Harden and Kyrie each have the chance to display the 2 qualities nobody has ever credited either with - toughness and selflessness.
Nets odds
GMEN46 : 6/16/2021 2:43 pm : link
I see nets at +180 and Suns at +375. I think vegas agrees with me in this one. Your either a nets fan trying to not to jinx the obvious or a nba fan who would hate to see these 3 guys win so easily.

There will be plenty of rest time for harden and Kyrie. As wel as green shot harris shot so poorly, it balances itself out.
Rooting Against the Nets

Grew up in Brooklyn as a big time Knicks fan back to the days of Willie Naulls and Kenny Sears. How many people!here remember the starting center Charlie Tyra. This was pre Richie Guerin. I care about the Nets like I care about the Jets. They might as well be in Cleveland. That said, I really don’t like shopping stars and letting Hardin pull the shit he did to get here. A fan buys a ticket in Houston paying what they charge has a right to expect an effort.

To the playoffs, it’s a little early to crown the Nets the championship. A few weeks ago, when Anthony Davis came back, I would have thought the Lakers were the favorites. The Bucks might just be a very good in season team with little chance of going deep in the playoffs, too may flaws. And I wouldn’t rule out Philly or Atlanta,as easily as others have. Who knows about them west with the news about Leonard and CO3 but that’s a few weeks from now.

Great time. I'm in early 40'S. The guys I grew up watching the Derrick Coleman, Petrovic, Anderson etc. I hated the move to Brooklyn and still don't like it but I'm a Nets fan so I'm forced to like the BK Nets now. My allegiance to Giants Yanks Devs will never waver. If they move I have to move with them. So don't ever say all the 100 Net fans. Theres lots

Early 40s here and grew up watching the same team. Petrovic is still my favorite NBA player of all time.

Do you really think KD and Kyrie choose the Nets if the Nets were the dogshit team they were before Marks got there? Not a chance.

And all of you Knicks fans acting like you didn't want KD and Kyrie are full of shit. I remember the FA threads. Sure, you weren't crazy about Kyrie (neither was I), but he was worth it to get Kyrie. say nothing about his overall character - no issues off the court and plays the game the right way in between the lines. Certainly stacks up better in the integrity department than former Nets star Jason Kidd. I'd find him pretty easy to root for if he were in a Knicks uniform (which I desperately wanted).

I don't understand Knicks fans shitting on Nets fans or saying they shouldn't enjoy this team or they didn't want Kyrie and Durant.

Kyrie is incredibly unlikeable and what Harden did in Houston was garbage, but any NBA fan would be thrilled to have this roster- who cares how they got it. And as a Knicks fan, I would have taken Eddy Curry back if it meant Durant was coming. Anyone with half a brain knows that Durant is one of the most talented players ever.

And honestly that team showed a lot of toughness in Game 5. I gained a lot of respect for that win and lost a lot for the Bucks.

James Harden Trade
jacob12 : 6/19/2021 1:55 pm : link
A poster criticized the Rockets owner for the James Harden trade. He wrote the Rockets should have traded for Ben Simmons. I think building a team around Simmons would be an unmitigated disaster.

Ben Simmons is an abysmal foul shooter and a very poor shooter. He has an enormous contract and I think trading for Ben would be an egregious mistake.

Many NBA scouts and executives feel that the Rockets trade with the Nets is a very good deal. The Rockets have to be patient and draft well.

Ben Simmons is one of the most overrated players in the NBA.
