The expansion draft is 7/21.
Next Sunday (7/18) protected lists will be made public
NHL Draft is 7/23 - 7/24
Free Agency opens 7/28
a lot of movement will happen IMO b/c of a lot of factors including the flat cap - teams with cap space can make out like bandits just for taking a bad contract. Tarasenko, Eichel, and more could have new homes not even considering movement to help with the expansion draft or free agency.
This article linked below from THW is great, not sure there is a ton of accuracy to it, but it's still a fun read.

Breaking Coyotes News - Coyotes on verge of acquiring Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostibehere. Gostibehere, 28, is an offensive defenseman with two years left on a 6-year, $27 million dollar contract he signed in 2017 with Philadelphia.

Maybe Ned wanted more than the owner wanted to pay. Trade everyone who makes a salary!

@domluszczyszyn
Shayne Gostisbehere isn't what he used to be, but he still looks like a solid second pairing guy who can capably run a power play.
His best comp being John-Michael Liles feels incredibly apt.

they draft him in 2014, develop him, finally the light comes on and he looks really good and you trade him for a garbage draft pick and a pending UFA?
that doesn't sound like a solid plan.

apparently I had some bad information and was right above when I said PHI gets cap relief - and they also send the 2nd and 7th.

I thought Philly gave up a 2 and a 7 for Arizona to take Ghost. Francis didn't want the 2 picks and be saddled with Ghost's salary.

I don't deserve this.
I love the Hall deal for the Bruins.
Good comp for the Sorokin negotiations
these past two days just highlight how bad the NHL is at communications/media.
they botched the release of protected lists, the expansion draft was brutal and they jam schedule release in before the draft.

Hearing Zach Hyman close to deal in EDM ... "It's in the Leafs corner." #Leafs #NHL #FreeAgentFrenzy #Oilers
Will certainly be a buyout on the back end. He's a good support player who can play with stars, but we've all seen this movie before.

There is a story out there that Ned wanted 4 million from the Canes. The Canes offered 2 million. The Canes were still not sure if he was an actual #1.
When they could not agree. They asked Ned if he was to be traded where would he want to go and they would see about working a deal. He apparently said Detroit so he can be close to his fiancee.
That is also why he took the 3 million Detroit offered.

Smith would be a really good 6/7 guy.
His Ranger career was a little unfortunate - they screwed him by putting him as a winger, imo.

tBreaking News: As reported by Aaron Portzline on SiriusXM radio, Portzline mentions that #CBJ Max Domi’s future with the Jackets are “murky at best.” And it’s possible he’s moved at the deadline.
Do know Rangers open in Washington on Wednesday, home opener vs Dallas Thurs 10/14 and play in Montreal Saturday and over to Toronto on Monday.
After that... well, I can wait i guess.
I guess series play is out too. Not seeing a lot of two in a row opponents. Thought players wanted that
CBJ wanted Debrincat or Dach which were non-starters.
but talks are ongoing

Debrincat? Ha ha I guess I could ask for Scarlett Johansson
D heavy for the first time in a few years, which means teams may reach for a forward and from what I've read scouts and team executives haven't seen a ton of these kids - due to COVID, not nearly as much as a typical draft class, so you could look back and say "how did that guy get drafted in the 4th round".
that's why.

Friedman believes that Carolina wants to sign Dougie Hamilton to a contract similar to what St. Louis gave Torey Krug which was 7 x 6.5M
If that's true, he's going to get better offers on the open market by at least 1.5M if not more.
I think Hamilton gets closer to 9M than 7M

Yeah 6.5 isn't gonna get it done. He's the best dman on the open market. Though all of these guys want they're cake and eat it too. They want to get paid and contend for a cup immediately. In a flat cap year the contenders just can't clear 8-9 mill. Honestly if he wants to contend for a cup and get paid, his best bet is to take 7 mill and stay in Carolina. A team like the Devs can got to 8 or 9 but he's not contending for the cup there next year. Maybe Montreal now the Weber may be done?
Good player, but not a guy I'm ponying up big cash for though because he plays small.
That play haunts him like Cam not jumping on the fumble in the superbowl.
He's soft and tentative in his own end.

Dreger - There's enough buzz around Ristolainen that it seems likely he's the first one out of Buffalo. As for Eichel, there was a source in New York that believed there's still a slim chance he could be heading to the #NYR. Nothing new regarding the #MNWild. #LetsGoBuffalo

Dreger - The #FlyTogether I think are still in the mix for Eichel. I believe there's a team out there that's going to surprise all of us with a potential Jack Eichel trade. It's still a big "if". The team is in the East.

Lots of things percolating around the NHL. Way too early to call what direction the Sabres are going with Eichel. However, teams with interest are encouraged by the fact Jack is training hard and skating. Good sign of where he feels his health is at.
I mentioned above I have coveted Ristolainen for a while.

Carolina in discussions with both Jonathan Bernier and Petr Mrazek, hoping to get both UFA goalies signed. Not clear yet if they'll be able to pull it off or not.
Meanwhile, James Reimer (also UFA) is expected to go to market Wednesday where I think he'll have some solid options.

Coyotes are a team to watch today. They have multiple irons in the fire, beyond ongoing talks with Boston. Forwards like Garland & Dvorak could have new teams soon enough if AZ can wrap things up
Would also add OEL too I think.
Seth Jones
Jack Eichel
Ristolainen
Dvorak
Tarasenko
I've also heard the following being shopped
Gaudreau
Tkachuk (Matthew)
Anakim thinks
Barkov could be moved (I doubt it - best case at the deadline)
and I'm sure more I'm missing.
That first rounder is #13 tonight.
