The expansion draft is 7/21.
Next Sunday (7/18) protected lists will be made public
NHL Draft is 7/23 - 7/24
Free Agency opens 7/28
a lot of movement will happen IMO b/c of a lot of factors including the flat cap - teams with cap space can make out like bandits just for taking a bad contract. Tarasenko, Eichel, and more could have new homes not even considering movement to help with the expansion draft or free agency.
This article linked below from THW is great, not sure there is a ton of accuracy to it, but it's still a fun read.

Lots of attention being paid to NYR, Minny, Anaheim, La as potential fits for Jack Eichel. Some rumblings Montreal could be in the mix for the star center.
Risto can be better, yes, but that is one hell of a haul for a player that you now also need to extend, as he only has one year left.
I would have liked him on MTL but not at that price.
I would have liked him on MTL but not at that price.
If he had never developed offensively, that'd be one thing. But it's kind of weird for a Finnish defender to continue to play so poorly in his own end this far into his career. He's going into his 8th full NHL season and there's literally nothing he's good at.

Flyers paid a king's ransom to slightly downgrade their weakest regular defender. Incredible.

Rasmus Ristolainen, acquired by PHI, is a big defenceman who notoriously has put up absolutely horrible results at both ends of the ice consistently throughout his entire career. #AnytimeAnywhere
Exactly at least the Ghost gives you offensive punch and pp points.
I spoke too soon. I hate myself.
but if there's a year to load up on 2nd/3rd round picks this is it.

2nd is next year, if that's what you mean.
Rumblings that there's still more to come from Drury, so we'll see. Definitely don't like the return for this in isolation.
He's more of a bottom 6 forward - closer to 4th line than 3rd. high motor, plays PK, fans usually like him, but not a replacement for Buchnevich - almost like a lesser Goodrow.
I hope MTL pursues - they have 2 2nd's - both late, but would be worth it IMO.

Arizona will trade OEL and Garland to VAN for Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson, 9th overall and "more coming," per source. Trade call isn't done. Not sure on any salary retention.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, acquired by VAN, is on arguably the worst contract in the entire league. He has been absolutely terrible for the past three seasons and is getting paid like a #1 for the next six seasons. #Canucks
Here is what Vince Mercogliano has to say on Buch deal (he writes for regional paper, but he's been good)--and of course a NYR source is going to say team loves him and has upside
A couple notes:
- #NYR grew convinced Buch couldn't fit into their long-term $ plans
- They feel this opens ice time for Kakko, Kravtsov, other young Fs
- They love Blais' fit in bot 6. I've had a few people tell me there's upside

Pavel Buchnevich has been traded to the Blues for big-bodied forward Sammy Blais and a 2022 second-round pick.

With all that said, this is definitely a risky move. Buch has been one of their best players and now they're taking him out of the lineup. That stings.
Does this open other possibilities? Is it a necessary evil? Time will tell. Drury is certainly putting his stamp on the roster.

Toronto and Edmonton will work on compensation agreement for Hyman. I don’t believe the Oilers are interested in giving up more than a late round draft pick. Oilers seem fine with a 7 or 8 year agreement.

So far: Seth Jones and Pick 32 are going to the #Blackhawks. Jones has an agreement in principle for an eight-year, $9.5M extension that can be signed no earlier than July 28, when he enters final year of current deal.

You guys realize that when the music stops NYR will be the only legit suitor for Eichel? Likely get a top 5 center for a discount

We'll see - hope you're right. But do you think Drury has a good plan for Zibanejad if we do get Eichel?

No clue, I'm just reading the tea leaves and it reeks of Buffalo trying to pump up ANH and LAK as competition when there's literally no rationale for them to acquire him. Philly obviously blew their load so they're out.
