It sounds like Chris Wideman is a good bet to land with the #habs in free agency. The veteran defenceman is coming off a highly productive KHL season and is eligible to sign a NHL contract on Wednesday.

...now say NHL players will be in the Olympics

pretty much the only guy avail who i'd view as a clear upgrade on Leddy. Would think he has the familiarity with Trotz (plus Parise possibly) and wants a chance at a cup.

if he goes elsewhere though I'd still be all over a Chara reunion, especially if they can get him cheap so they have money to add elsewhere.

I like both as role players, but man what a bad trade. Didn't BOS trade a 1st round pick for Kase (maybe it was a Backes salary dump)? Never seemed healthy or a fit in BOS.

And Ritchie is a tank on skates. Love to add either for vet min or low $$$ deals.

is better fit on a team like NYR or COL than on MTL.

On MTL he was a 1C, and while he's really developed his game and is criminally neglected in Selke votes he's a traditional 3C.

Your 1C should be able to score and Danault cannot. He tops out as a 50 pt player which is fine until you acknowledge he's playing with a LW1 and RW1, and he won't score 15 goals. With the right line mates and right situation his value would be very high.

same reporter says COL in the mix too.

Jaden Schwartz and the #seakraken had real good discussions and it appears to be a strong landing spot but he wants to see who else they are bringing in before officially signing.

not offered the QO - making them FA's - nothing shocking on here, but teams have until the end of today I believe.

Yep. Once they re-signed Martinez they were right up against the cap. Fleury or Lehner had to go.

Latest info is that Avalanche are pitching a three-year deal to Landeskog at basically MacKinnon $$$ (around $6.3M AAV)

But is Danault really that much of an upgrade over Strome?

I think so, Strome is brutal on the dots, and doesn't even take high leverage face offs and Strome is nowhere near the defensive player.

Strome is a better scorer.

but like I said it's why ideally you make Danault your 3rd line center (in MTL he was a 1C) - but know he can play 1C, 2C or 3C - just ideally he's a 3C.

On loan? no idea, I do know that often times when teams need some ECHL players they get loaned from team to team - some teams don't even have ECHL teams so they add any ECHL players in their organization to other teams ECHL teams.

Sounds like European footie where a PL team, e.g., arranges for a player under control of a team is loaned out to a different club (same or lower level of competition) so he can gain experience, allows for more informed decision as to his rights down the line. Happens frequently.

this year - absolutely a guy they should look at.

Okay, working on some stuff. Biggest one is probably Landeskog...hearing 7x7 is on the table, and there are discussions about the possibility of eight years. We will see where this goes. There are others who want him.

Sounds like defenseman Mike Reilly is getting close to re-signing with the #bruins

Hague is still young, but not a significant player, and Smith is a UFA after the season and is also not a star, this is less than I thought it would be.

NYR equivalent would be something like Lundkvist, Chytil, Strome and 1st.

I’m hearing the Buffalo ask for Eichel from Vegas is Smith, Peyton Krebs, Nic Hague and a first-rounder.

seems like Lundkvist, Chytil, Strome and 1st would be significantly higher value, never mind that it's two C for one in return. Doesn't make sense to me

Just giving comparable value players - not saying the deal should be made or not for Vegas or the Rangers.

and Strome gets replaced by Eichel,and Goodrow can play C too.

Chytil has to be one of the worst face off guys in the league, Goodrow excels at face offs. it all starts with the face off. So often you analyze a goal against and it begins with a face off loss. Or you see an ineffective power play and it starts with a face off loss killing valuable time.

So underestimated by some fans (not you CHP, I know you get it).
