The expansion draft is 7/21.
Next Sunday (7/18) protected lists will be made public
NHL Draft is 7/23 - 7/24
Free Agency opens 7/28
a lot of movement will happen IMO b/c of a lot of factors including the flat cap - teams with cap space can make out like bandits just for taking a bad contract. Tarasenko, Eichel, and more could have new homes not even considering movement to help with the expansion draft or free agency.
This article linked below from THW is great, not sure there is a ton of accuracy to it, but it's still a fun read.

Former #mnwild defenseman Ryan Suter still mulling over multiple opportunities and is expected to make decision on his next team by early Wednesday morning. He's got multiple multi-year options; 4 years seems likely. Believed Dallas, FLA, others, still in the mix
many other players did not receive QOs

It sounds like Chris Wideman is a good bet to land with the #habs in free agency. The veteran defenceman is coming off a highly productive KHL season and is eligible to sign a NHL contract on Wednesday.

Pretty good third pair vet, but yet again they overpay for a back of the roster kind of guy.

It appears Danault is headed to the open market. If #NYR feel Chytil benefits from the jump to 2C and they move Strome, Danault is the perfect option. One of the best 2-way centers in the game who has the talent to flip flop with Chytil if he struggles in a bigger role.

Kase and Ritchie likely to be non tendered. Your thoughts pjcas?
if he goes elsewhere though I'd still be all over a Chara reunion, especially if they can get him cheap so they have money to add elsewhere.

I realize this is in hindsight to the two other terrible deals, but Danault is the guy I would have targeted all along. He's what this team really needs, a lockdown defender who's incredibly tough to play against.

I like both as role players, but man what a bad trade. Didn't BOS trade a 1st round pick for Kase (maybe it was a Backes salary dump)? Never seemed healthy or a fit in BOS.
And Ritchie is a tank on skates. Love to add either for vet min or low $$$ deals.
On MTL he was a 1C, and while he's really developed his game and is criminally neglected in Selke votes he's a traditional 3C.
Your 1C should be able to score and Danault cannot. He tops out as a 50 pt player which is fine until you acknowledge he's playing with a LW1 and RW1, and he won't score 15 goals. With the right line mates and right situation his value would be very high.

Yep. Once they re-signed Martinez they were right up against the cap. Fleury or Lehner had to go.
Literally nothing.
Also, he found out via twitter. Shitty look for Vegas.

Latest info is that Avalanche are pitching a three-year deal to Landeskog at basically MacKinnon $$$ (around $6.3M AAV)
I think so, Strome is brutal on the dots, and doesn't even take high leverage face offs and Strome is nowhere near the defensive player.
Strome is a better scorer.
but like I said it's why ideally you make Danault your 3rd line center (in MTL he was a 1C) - but know he can play 1C, 2C or 3C - just ideally he's a 3C.

On loan? no idea, I do know that often times when teams need some ECHL players they get loaned from team to team - some teams don't even have ECHL teams so they add any ECHL players in their organization to other teams ECHL teams.

AAV of $3.4M for ages 28-32.
- Glad to have him back with the #Habs.
- More term than I would have preferred, as with that salary comes production expectations (see: Byron, Paul). So don’t LOVE this deal…
- But still a useful and valuable player. #goHabsGo
I think Danault is definitely gone and the Canadiens will be worse on paper because of it (and b/c of losing Weber who I freely admit is not Weber of 5 years ago, but also had a pretty high floor for play) so unless there is a ton of improvement from the youth, Scott in Montreal will get his wish for MTL.

I’m hearing the Buffalo ask for Eichel from Vegas is Smith, Peyton Krebs, Nic Hague and a first-rounder.
Just giving comparable value players - not saying the deal should be made or not for Vegas or the Rangers.
and Strome gets replaced by Eichel, and Goodrow can play C too.
Chytil has to be one of the worst face off guys in the league, Goodrow excels at face offs. it all starts with the face off. So often you analyze a goal against and it begins with a face off loss. Or you see an ineffective power play and it starts with a face off loss killing valuable time.
So underestimated by some fans (not you CHP, I know you get it).
