Craziness indeed and from some of the clips there’s no doubt a lot of fans thought an active shooter was in the stadium. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
Also first reports said a stadium worker was shot but that’s been reported to be false.
It was a crazy site as we saw some people sprinting away from the stadium. Then all reports were “active shooter” which was scary and false. And yea it turned out it was two cars shooting at each other. Just happened to be near the park.

I ended up on the ground behind a dippin dots table with a group of about 9 people. A woman began to cry and hyperventilate. We heard someone yell "shooting" and I presumed that someone had a gun inside the stadium. An usher came to our group and told us that the shoorting was outisde the stadium and that we should stay where we were. A couple of people came to the dippin dots table and the dippin dots salesperson continued to do business. We tried to calm the distressed woman in our group. The dippin dots person called down to us and asked us if we saw any extra cups down there. Then we saw the scoreboard confirm the there was an incident outside the stadium. The PA announcer said something similar. A couple of minutes there was a message saying that we "may" leave the staduim through the CF or RF gates. I didn't want to join the rush of people on the ramps right away. I waited a minute and got to the ramps. The escalator was going up instead of down. My wife and I were trying to get down the ramps but we ran into a wall of people who had their phones out taking pictures of the scene outside South Capitol street (the third base gate). After that the evacuation went normally. Not a fun experience.

I read national coverage of both those incidents, I'm not sure why you think they weren't news, or are evidence that this somehow shouldn't be.

I was watching the game and the first thing that made me aware there was a problem was that the whole section of premiums seats behind home plate was suddenly empty. Nobody in the aisles. Completely vacated. The stands were still full behind the Padres dugout and the rest of the stadium. At that point nobody knew what was happening. Seemed odd.

I agree and it is refreshing. But in our country, it's not commercially viable. That's the CNN of the 80s basically.

Agreed. If you've ever seen the relationships between media members and politicians, the media is literally in bed (if not blood related) with politicians. Conflicts of interest are prevalent, and regularly ignored.

mute anyone on social media who makes everything about politics. I've got friends and acquaintances who spend entirely too much time trying to convince the world (well, their 67 followers) that their opinion is the right one on every social issue/topic.
but I'd love it if Netflix (or someone similar) started a morning news show. They are already adding gaming to their offering (rumored to be partnering with sony/playstation) and I can see a live tv with their own live programming happening within a few years.
This can end up being another biased sourced but its also an opportunity for someone to step up and make their own programming without any historical baggage and allegiances the main networks have.

Personally I love all forms of news — straight news, advocacy, commentary, tabloid.
The key is to seek out a diversity of outlets, and pick and choose what you believe is honest and in good faith.
There is good straight news coverage domestically. My go to for just the headlines is the Christian Science Monitor.
