mute anyone on social media who makes everything about politics. I've got friends and acquaintances who spend entirely too much time trying to convince the world (well, their 67 followers) that their opinion is the right one on every social issue/topic.
Unfortunately it has spread to almost everything. Look at sports. I said 20 years ago that the National Anthem need not be played at sports events. Look where that led us, I want to watch a football game not be lectured by either side.

Ehh, just ignore it. DVR exists too so just fast forward whatever minimal political showing exists. I don't even notice it most of the time because I don't care, its that meaningless to me.
Kneeling caused the biggest overeaction I've ever seen in sports. Initially i was a part of that overreaction but I've come to realize it means something to certain people and doesn't mean much to me so I can just ignore it.
And that's any news story too - people are choosing to be outraged by things when they can instead ignore it since it usually has absolute zero impact on their day to day.

It has also spread within the extended family and at least one time I was pressured to discuss some political crap when I just wanted to be left alone.
just turn the news off and live your life. Never understood people complaining about the news being terrible/infactual/divisive but still watch anyway.
Shut it off, you’ll be happier and healthier and have less to complain about (I know that’s what’s attractive to many).
so then just say you don't want to talk about it. It isn't a problem unless you make it a problem, IMO. My parents (divorced) are polar opposites politically and its taught me to be ok telling them not to involve me in their political views. I'm not mad at them for it, its who they are. But I respectfully tell them that I don't want to be around it and that theres hundreds of other things we can talk about.

in this one case, refusing to talk about it caused just as big a problem as talking about it.
Obvious troll is obvious. How many accounts do you have to pull out of the woodwork?
Typical response from the illiterate. Get some new material please.
He's correct though isn't he? You're a Dec 2019 member and the only thread showing you posting on is this one. I don't see any football threads you posted on at all

I agree. It's why I stopped participating in sociopolitical arguments online, both here and on venues like Facebook. Not worth the agita, not by a long shot.
As to your larger point, it reminds me of a moment from last summer, when there were so many riots around the country. You watch that kind of news coverage and it makes you despair about the state of American society, race relations, etc. In the middle of that, though, our family made several trips to Jamestown Beach, a river beach on the banks of the James near Williamsburg. It tends to draw a very diverse crowd, with many black and Hispanic families attending, and it was quite the tonic to the media-sponsored craziness. People of all races and ethnicities, mostly families with young children, all having fun together in a friendly atmosphere. No tension whatsoever.

I think that is what most people have experienced. However, it is not what you will see or hear about in the media because your great positive experience does not "sell".

I hear you. Personally I draw a line in the sand and if they don’t like it, tough. I’ve walked away from holiday dinner over politics and I’ll do it again. When you’ve got your kids and grandkids at the table and you can’t find anything else to talk about, that’s on you (my parents) not me and I’ll simply leave.

I agree... no need to ruin a holiday over politics. The people who do that have real mental issues.
We were at our annual New Years Eve party at a friend's house. Same 15+ people there every year. We are all really good friends. One of the individuals though cannot resist politics. She will always find a way to turn a discussion about something unrelated into politics.
Two years ago, she would not stop. So, I got up and got my coat. Asked my wife if she was coming with me or if she wanted me to pick her up later. The friend then realized how serious I was (or how ridiculous she was) and promised to end the discussion.
I have a sister who is so far in to politics that she absolutely cannot resist talking about it... ever. Now I see her maybe 2x per year and she lives not even an hour away. I also had to block her from social media.
was the major networks 6 and 11 p.m. Most of the division in the country is stemming for all these broadcasts and social media. Many people I find don't actually know some things occurring because of what network they watch.

I no longer watch the news.
I dunno, this 8 year old girl wasn't frightened at all.
since it was her second shooting. - ( New Window )

On this exact same street a few weeks ago two 13/14 year old girls hijacked and killed an uber eats driver.
but this incident is now a societal implosion? Pay attention.
Really. Three people shot in D.C. If it didn't impact a ballgame, it wouldn't be news.

Did it take place in parking lot or on a street outside the stadium? Gotta imagine it was frightening for all the people inside the stadium.

Keeping your family safe is not a matter of politics. If it it is the you have a warped way of thinking.

Unless I know someone's politics, I don't bring it up. Not worth it. You aren't changing minds. I apply same philosophy to vaccines in 2021.

Huh? I don't follow.

Don’t bother. His wafer thin veiled racism and abundance of ignorance isn’t worth responding to.
Cowards gonna coward.
Exactly. I asked him to explain and he shuffled around like a trap dancing clown. Build more jails! Yell at clouds! Douchewater.
