I think they gave short shrift to big Dex

This is the guy who I think is poised to become a dominant player. His size and athleticism are really impressive and in his first two years he showed marked improvement. One more step forward and he’ll be in Pro Bowl territory. Also noticed he’s looks vastly different than he did as a rookie. This isn’t the 340+ lb guy we saw two years ago. He’s still a plus sized guy but he looks positively svelte in comparison. So looking forward to seeing him this year.

Lawrence looks like a Bond villain's henchman.
I don't get the pundits who rate TWFT 's defense

As the division best.
Sweat and Young are terrific, but William's/ Lawrence are right there and I think our secondary is in another class.
I also think the depth we have throughout the defense (including the line) is extraordinary.
I don't think giving credit to WFT for having what could be a

very good defense diminishes the NYG at all.

Both teams have some talented players at all 3-levels of the defense. Not surprising to think WFT might be a little bit better suited to rush the passer while the NYG a little bit better in coverage.

We'll see who gets it done more consistently...

Good point...in theory. In reality I think our front is not recognized. On another thread here their defensive rookie is given props over Azeezi (sp?) because Washington's guy "will be surrounded by much better talent."
Chris Sims posted a theory on the new NFL defenses. He thinks "huge" is the trend; that defenses have been forced to bring a back up to limit the running qb and hold down the run. "Huge" he feels can limit the run without bringing the extra man up and give the defense options and control. He cites specically what KC did in free agency where they signed a huge nose guard and moved their nose out to def. end.
if that's the trend our smallest def. lineman will weigh 325 lbs. and maybe NY holds a tactical advantage.
The Giant def. is remarkably deep and in Martinez, Logan and maybe Peppers, has great leadership.
Apparently remarkable coaching too.
We are looking at Perhaps the best and deepest secondary since Em Tunnell, Landry, Patton, Barnes, Lynch and Nolan and the great umbrella defense.
No, it’s simply a good point in reality

The Giant D played well as last season went along, and the predominate view is they will be better this season with a few more upgraded players.

Didn’t really follow that mess of thoughts above...

"Didn’t really follow that mess of thoughts above."
Chris Sim's theory is relative and important, esp. when comparing the Giants supersized 3-4 to the WFT'S 4-3.
I think you're pouting and the itch that luvs to criticize can't handle a dose.
"Giants added a few playets"
Tough for the universal critic to acknowledge what happened. To Jimmy a few players on defense is: Adoree Jackson, reggie Ragland,Ifedi Odenijbo,Lonnie Shelton,Ryan Anderson, Aaron Robinson, Azeezi Ojulari, Ellerson Smith, Rodari Williams and coming back from injury Lorenzo Cartier, Ximines and Mckinney.
That's 12 player's and J.G's urge to denigrate sees that as "a few" .

Yet, another mess of thoughts. And i am being a bit kind
Jimmy Googs : 7/22/2021 10:03 am : link
to even denote them as thoughts.

Oh, and my post said a few more "upgraded players" on defense. Just listing out a litany of names of guys that will get defensive snaps doesn't mean they are all upgrades.

Or let me guess...they look like Ray Lewis to you?
Oh oh oh. ..you're being kind
Grizz99 : 7/22/2021 4:51 pm : link
Good for you, Jim. The world could always use more kindness and watching you spout negativity was tiresome months ago.
Yes Billy, tiresome is the word I would use as well
Jimmy Googs : 7/22/2021 5:23 pm : link
in response to yours...
Here's the post you've been calling a mess

I will take the defense here on my behalf...I think it's a relatively novel theory and germane to the discussion. Surprised to hear you bash it so loudly and consistently.
The role of sniper is easier, as is the role of incessant critic.
Been fun and all, but enuf for now.
Yes, take defense on your own behalf....someone needs to.

Bye now. No hurry back...
