was all that a player needed this guy would be a star. But if he doesn't learn to how to put the bat on the ball, he is destine to become another over-hyped Yankee prospect that gets traded for a career back-up rental.
and .211 ba with a .708 OPS is probably top 3 on this team. at least he's a legit CF too.
THey should give Hoy Park a shot too. The shithead analytics dept that rules the Yankees roost doesn't like him but he seems to meet the eye test. I guess he doesn't strike out enough LOL.

I know it may sound strange to some, but sometimes getting ABs at the MLB level can actually help players that struggle with controlling the zone. MLB pitchers have better stuff but they also have better command and tend to throw more strikes

I have heard that also.
I also heard that the lighting is better. Which makes sense.
I home he gets a chance to play every day for awhile to see what he can do. In other words give him the Brent Gardner treatment. Go 0 for 10 and still start the next game.
So a guy who has done zero as a professional baseball player and is only here as an emergency replacement should be treated the same as a guy who has played and contributed for years to a successful franchise. Not a Yankee fan but I would think that a real Yankee fan would be embarrassed by some of the stupidity that shows up in these posts.
I used to like him a lot but they've made me watch him like practically shrivel up and die as a baseball player.
If by they you mean injuries to the team then yes,I agree but if you mean the team did this to him, I couldn’t disagree more.
They signed him to a pretty nice deal for what was supposed to be at most a 4th-5th outfielder. After last year he should be thanking the Yanks for that deal, and to me was almost like a golden parachute.
He’s been a fantastic Yankee and they’ve treated him as such. It’s just unfortunate he’s forced into this role now when his skills obviously don’t warrant the playing time.
But I'm not expecting much. Florial simply hasn't hit at all since his injury.
His BA isn’t where you’d want it to be, obviously, and he strikes out too much. But he has hit 12 HRs so he is showing signs of life. He’s also walked 30 times, which gets back my earlier post about MLB versus MiLB pitching. Some of his struggles could be him getting frustrated by not getting pitches to hit. Who knows. He also plays a terrific CF and can steal some bases.

If I recall correctly, Cano was one of those players. Scouts thought he was bored in the minors.

That's exactly right. What separates the major league pitchers from the minor league ones is consistency and being able to place pitches better (assuming the prerequisite skills are similar). What separates minor league hitters from major league hitters is minimizes their weak zones and being more selective on pitches.
There will be hitters that never successfully make the jump because they have a certain pitch they can't hit like a slider or curve or swing at pitches outside the zone. I don't know enough about what Florial has done to know if he's chasing pitches vs. not being able to hit a particular pitch.

FatMan - So which are you saying is the case? I honestly don't know. But, I have read his name for a couple of years as being a top prospect at a position of extreme need right now. I don't know how he will fare. But, I want to see him given a shot. Has he torn the cover off the ball in AAA to deserve it? Nope. But, the Yankees OF is a mess and one of their regulars is well past his mediocre prime, in Gardner. At this point, they literally have nothing to lose by letting a highly touted kid play everyday to see what they have. In a normal year, a contending team doesn't have this luxury. But, this year the Yankees have a number of guys grossly underperforming and now have mounting injuries on top of that. So, it's sink or swim with a guy you didn't intend to start regardless.

Since you are not a Yankee fan, you might not know 5hat Gardner who I am a fan of, is on his last leg.
Point is that the Yankees have a very short fuse when either a pitcher or position player is called up. If a m8nor leaguer pitcher was brought up and pitched like Wilson, he would be sent down the next day. Yes, I understand Wilson doesn’t have options to be sent out. Still very frustrating as a fan.

This is a business, not Little League. Gardner has been horrific. I'm a big fan of Gardy, but he's completely cooked. I wonder if he was experimenting with some chemical help a couple years ago when he hit 28 HRs in 2019. He's got three this season. He had five last season. He's got 13 extra base hits this season in 199 ABs. That's absolutely awful for a guy with speed whose power has diminished. He can't even hit the gaps anymore.
You lose Hicks, Frazier, Judge and Andujar (with Stanton not playing in the OF) - what real choices do they have?
And they still gave him a one year $1.8 Million contract. That - to me - is pretty generous by the Yankees. So I completely disagree with your take. He's been treated more than fairly.

Matt - I'm saying I don't know what the case is.
DJLM a late scratch...
Estevan Florial in CF. Spoke with Meredith pregame and speaks decent English. Nice that he and Torres are willing to speak in their 2nd language.
He fights of sliders, changes and others and looks at the knee high FB. I don't get it....
Wade has to get the runner in.
He's situational at this point. Not sure the value is there. But his inclusion in tonight's lineup is somewhat of an anomaly.

His max effort gets the ball to the pitcher. I've never seen a player with less in his bat. He makes Otis Nixon look like a starter.

Yeah. Is what it is.
Deep...to the bench!
Dude, it's open all night. Relax. You'll get there.
