Duh. That slipped my mind. Even more desperate.
This season is so crazy with the injuries. The position players came all at once. And now the pitchers seem to be coming a bunch at once.
I'm going to call into question the Mets Athletic Training staff. There seems to be an awful lot of this type injuries.

Its not just the Mets though, IMO the extended layoff, the 60 game season and just overall adjustment to Covid should be considered as major factors as well.
Also we are asking guys who have barely pitched in the majors and over 2-3 innings to pitch way more often.
Not happening. 2022 salary...2.75 million. Seattle is 7 games over .500, 3 behind in the WC standings.

Mets sign Calvin Ziegler, RHP from Heidelberg, Ontario, Canada, their second rounder for $910,000. No. 55 pick overall. Top Canadian prospect was Auburn commit.

Wasn't he reported at "slightly under slot?" That's more than $700k under. I was wondering where the bulk of the money for Rocker was coming from when it was reported Zeigler was only slightly under slot.

He was a 3rd-4th round prospect so he was taken with the understanding the pick was made (in large part) due to the Rocker money. Schwartz/Scott saved them an additional 100K or so. Hamel, David, Kendall, Seymour were all seniors so they will save significant money on those 4 as well. There were no "tough signs" for the Mets this year.

It seems as if his dad (from what I can tell) was the source for his signing so it's likely he wanted to make his son look good (not that there is anything wrong with taking under slot money and going round 2 in the MLB draft).

Definitely. From what was reported I was expecting that they just rounded down to $1.6M or somewhere close to that. $910K is basically 70th pick money which is maybe even slightly below where he'd be in hindsight if you remove the unsignable players from the board. I also have a feeling that our 3rd round pick will come with savings (not to mention David and Seymour providing some flexibility as well).
4/10 have signed, they have [potentially if they spend with the 5% overage) 1,742,615 to spend on the final 6 picks in the top 10, 4 seniors, Vasil and Askew. Jack Ramsey reported Vasil is signing for slot (and is already in PSL) but nobody else has that just yet.

The Mets claimed right-hander Roel Ramírez off waivers from the Cardinals and optioned him to Syracuse. He's a reliever who briefly appeared in the Majors last month for St. Louis.
With an SEC committment, that is better than what Church had. Ziegler also showed more in HS than Church did.
Personally I have no problem with the pick if it helped us get Rocker and Vasil and both of those hit. That being said, it will be intersting to see what House gets from Washington and Watson gets from Marlins to see if paying Rocker $6M ends up being worth it.

had him 123 (just for context, not for his eventual outcome) but that's a 4th round grade, BA liked him less (272). He reportedly had excellent workouts for a few teams. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come and not workout king Andrew Church who reportedly wowed them in a workout and stunk

I'm not criticizing the pick, my Church comment was simply the "impressive workout" connection. Joe Doyle really liked the arm (noted the command is currently poor), Keith Law similarly liked the arm but knocked the command.
If we were going to target anyone I would have inquired about T.J. Zeuch who was recently DFA'd by Toronto. He has been killed by the long ball, but that is an issue with where Toronto has been playing. I still see some potential.

Sandy had these questions raised before. He brought in that fitness guru who had David Wright using the heavy robes even though he had disc problems.

In perhaps the most important start of his baseball career.....Robert Stock comes up with a bad hammy. Shit like that will get you sent back to the New Jersey Jackals, pitching for beer money.

Mike Barwis? He was hired by the Wilpons who knew him from Michigan.
ranks @mets
1st round pick Kumar Rocker their #5 prospect. 1. Alvarez 2. Baty 3. Mauricio 4. Allan 5. Rocker, 3rd round pick Dominic Hamel is ranked #15 in the system, 2nd rounder Calvin Ziegler 25th (26th but there is a typo/added name) #Mets

I promise I'm not related to Vientos - but it's pretty awesome that not only do we have Baty at #18, but Vientos who is younger and absolutely crushing AA just as much as Baty was pre-promotion at A+.
Obviously there are talent evaluations beyond stats especially w/r/t defense that may very well differentiate the 2 as significantly as the rankings indicate but the depth in the top 10 right now seems like it's as good as it's been at any time in the last decade (which was obviously a real good decade).
Don't they have 5 in the top 95?

Fangraphs list is 123 deep. So it's notable in that PCA and Vientos are not on the list. I'm not "stopping" arbitrarily where Rocker lands.
Kid must really be pressing.
Almost feel bad for him at this point. I never hoped he did poorly, now I hope he breaks out.
